Saab has announced the appointment of Matthias Seidl to the position of Executive Director of Sales. Seidl, 47, will officially take his post on January 1.

Seidl joins Saab from Detroit-based automotive consultancy API. Seidle held the title of CEO and president while at API.

Prior to his time at API, Seidl spent 20 years at the Volkswagen Group. During his time with VW, Seidl held the position of COO for the VW brand in the United States and also spent 12 years at Audi as the brand’s sales and marketing head for the European and Asian-Pacific regions and as sales head for the North and South American markets.

“I feel extremely honored to be joining such an iconic brand as Saab,” said Seidl. “This is a very exciting period for the company and I look forward to helping increase sales volumes and opening up new territories for the brand in markets around the globe.”

Seidl will be taking over for Adrian Hallmark. Hallmark announced early this month that he was leaving Saab for a position with Jaguar.
