Suzuki Recalls 2007 - 2010 Suzuki SX4 For Loose Screws

Suzuki has announced a recall for the SX4 sedan and hatchback from the 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 model years. According to a release from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, vibration from driving the vehicles may cause the side-view mirrors to fall off.

At issue are the three screws that hold each side-view mirror in place. The NHTSA says that Suzuki dealers will replace the screws on each mirror free of charge. The agency estimates that 69,587 vehicles are subject to the recall.

Of course, we understand that in the grand scheme of things, a missing side-view mirror isn't as grave as faulty brakes or sticky accelerators, but it can cause plenty of problems -- notably, reduced visibility for you and a chunky metal obstacle for those who follow in your wake. And most of drivers know, it's easier to fix an exterior part that's still on the vehicle than to find a new one to match.

Suzuki hasn't yet told the NHTSA when it plans to notify owners of the problem. If you drive one of the affected vehicles and you have questions, call your local dealer, or ring Suzuki at 887-697-8985. You can also call the NHTSA at 888-327-4236 and reference recall number 10V513000.

Suzuki recalling SX4 models for faulty side view mirror screws

Suzuki has recalled almost 70,000 SX4 models, including a handful built in 2007 as well as those constructed between 2008 and 2010. The recall centers around faulty screws that are used to attach the vehicles' side view mirrors. Over time, vibrations can cause the screws to loosen and the mirror may fall off. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, if that happens, a lack of visibility may lead to an accident.

While Suzuki has not yet come up with a repair schedule for the issue, the company says that replacement screws are being shipped to dealers right now, and that the problem will be taken care of free of charge. Owners can contact their local Suzuki dealer for more information. Hit the jump for the company's statement on the recall.

Statement:

American Suzuki Motor Corporation is promptly implementing a recall for an issue with the SX4's outside rear view mirrors. The issue is that the three screws that secure the outside rear view mirrors can come loose due to vibration. The six mounting screws (three on each mirror) that secure the outside rear view mirrors in place will need to be replaced by newer, more secure locking screws.
