HONDA UPDATES INSIGHT FOR 2011, ADDS NEW BASE MODEL

By Drew Johnson

Honda has announced a host of changes for its 2011 Insight hybrid, including an all-new entry level mode. The 2011 Honda Insight officially goes on sale today.

The biggest change for 2011 is a new Insight base model, which is simply designated as “Insight.” Like all Insight models, the new base model includes front and side curtain air bags, anti-lock brakes, automatic climate control and power windows. The Insight also comes with Vehicle Stability Assist, which becomes standard across the line for 2011. In order to keep costs down, the base Insight comes with a two-speaker CD audio system, but rewards buyers with a starting price of just $18,950, including destination.

The Insight LX remains on offer for 2011, adding a four-speaker stereo and a security system. Several new standard features are also on tap for the 2011 LX model, including cruise control, a USB audio interface, armrest console and floor mats.

The EX trim level stays on board for 2011, standing as the line’s range-topper. It adds a six-speaker audio system, alloy wheels, steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters and heated side mirrors.

All 2011 Insight models are powered by a 1.3L four-cylinder paired with Honda’s hybrid drive. The 2011 Insight is rated at 40/43mpg city/highway.

the Insight is so crappy I am not sure how they could have made it suck more (base model) then it already did.

disclaimer ....i am guilty of researching the Insight as a vehicle, I was of course intrigued by the high mpg and the hatch. Turns out you can lease one dirt cheap, Honda whores these things out, like they don't sell or something.

I dug into it a little more and it seems like the Insight has a bit of a tough time with the winter aspect. I think at least in my market here that must explain why there are so few of them. Odd though, the Prius is popular here.

The Insight is tiny inside, hardly any trunk. The dash and appointments are cheap.

Honda would have been better off skipping the Insight here, and skipping the hybrid on the CRz. Instead they should have made a Fit hybrid. Which may still be on its way.

Honda unfortunately made the Insight look, act, and feel all like a cheap car, and that's all they can get for it.

The 2011 base model is actually a 2010 LX, minus two speakers with different upholstery and standard VSC. 2011 LX gains USB radio and other features from the EX.

Honda basically lowered the price of the Insight and added equipment, but they did it subtly so as not to piss off 2010 Insight owners. It's now ~$5000 less than the cheapest Prius.

Automatic climate control but 2 speaker stereo...curious.

Climate control required for start-stop function of IMA.
