EV TEST TRACK RETURNING TO DETROIT AUTO SHOW

By Drew Johnson

For the third consecutive year, the Detroit Auto Show will feature an electric vehicle driving track in the lower level of Cobo Hall. Originally created to fill empty space, the EV test track has grown into a show staple.

However, the Michigan Hall display will be renamed for 2011, switching from its original “EcoXperience” name to “Smarter Living in Michigan”.

The lower level will be split into two parts – a test track sponsored by the Michigan Economic Development Corp. that will allow show goers to get behind the wheel of the latest electric and hybrid vehicles and a display called Smarter Living Showcase sponsored by DTE Energy.

“As the automotive industry continues to make incredible strides in environmentally-friendly production and technology, the features we offer …continue to evolve,” Barron Meade, chairman of the 2011 North American International Auto Show said in a statement.

As of December 1, 18 companies have signed up to display in the “Smarter Living in Michigan” display.
