China, Germany boost Mercedes sales to November record

December 3, 2010 12:01 CET

FRANKFURT (Reuters) -- Daimler AG's luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz increased sales by 19 percent to 105,200 units in November, the most it has ever sold in the month and representing the 13th month in a row of double-digit growth.

"We continue to be confident for the remaining weeks of the year and will fulfill our forecast to grow by at least 10 percent with Mercedes-Benz passenger cars this year," Mercedes sales chief Joachim Schmidt said in a statement.

He said growth was driven by China and Germany, with sales in the automaker’s home market up 22 percent despite a shrinking market.

In China, the brand hit sales of 130,100 units for the period January-November, thus beating its full-year sales target for more than 120,000 vehicles.

Despite a 27 percent fall in Smart ForTwo sales in November, the company said it expects to reach its 2010 target of about 100,000 units.

For the year through November, it has sold 89,900 of the vehicles.
