FORD FIGO CHOSEN AS INDIAN CAR OF THE YEAR 2010

By Mark Kleis

Although the Indian car market is still being established as we speak, due to the large population size and projected future growth in the country it is a vital market that will become more relevant in coming years. As such, with each passing year automotive awards such as the Indian Car of the Year award have become more relevant, with the winner this year being Ford’s small Figo.

To those who have seen the previous generation Ford Fiesta, the Figo likely is a very familiar face. The Figo is meant to provide an answer to the need for affordable, yet safe and appealing transportation in the emerging Indian auto market.

Yesterday, the 2010 India Car of the Year award was officially awarded to Ford’s Figo, which had been unveiled in India with much fanfare, including a worldwide simulcast online earlier this year. More than 60,000 Figos have been sold since March, setting a new sales record for a single nameplate in India.
