2012 Buick Verano Live Reveal

The GM press conference videos will each be available for on-demand replay from their original URLs within two hours after each live stream ends. Replays remain available for at least eleven months.

Wouldn't be cheaper to just post it on youtube right after it happens? Just saying, its not like GM has money to burn. Not to mention it could be up for years.

Well that wood looks much better in real photos.

I also noticed that's gets more power than the Cruze, especially the 2.0 turbo which should put out around 220 hp (with manual or automatic transmissions!). That plus the quiet tuning and spiffy interior are good to pay more for it than the Cruze.

The 2.0T and manual make this a very interesting option I think. I like that they are putting the manual higher contented models because nobody else does anymore. Too bad they aren't available on all of them though. I'm really starting to like this car, and thinking it might be more realistic than buying a Regal right out of college. Still hoping a hatch might pop up somewhere...

I think this is worryingly like Old GM, where they focused too much on competing with themselves rather than competitors who were eating their lunch. As empowah said, what does this car compete with exactly?

Who needs to be worried? The low end of the TSX segment big time. The Verano interior makes the TSX feel stark and sterile. If you're not concerned with lap time, the Verano looks to be a nicer place to spend your time.

Much warmer inside than a Volvo S40 and without the oddball 5-cylinder turbo.

Anyone who buys a Civic EX-L Touring whatever..... they'll finally be able to hear whoever is talking to them in the passenger seat and have the nice amenities.

Possibly Chrysler 200 if they aren't concerned much with back seat room.

I don't think this is a TSX competitor at all.. The Regal is. It does look more luxury than sport, like a baby ES350. Perhaps reviewers will be forgiving of its handling prowess or lack thereof due to the overall luxury over sport look.

It's a TSX competitor only to the TSX buyers who are buying for the lux part instead of the performance part.

I like the retro "T" badge, like the old T-types. This thing might appear sedate, but it might turn out to be a runner, too. Very interesting combination of virtues that seems unmatched and distinctive.

Watching this video, the guy says it fills the gap between Jetta and IS/A3. For some reason I feel like they're going to have a hard time commanding a premium over the Cruze while attracting the young buyers who buy IS/A3 because they can go and tell their friends, "Dude I just picked up a LEXUS or AUDI."

I guess it all depends on how it is priced. But right now I think GM is going to have a hard time pricing it so that it (a) doesn't step on the Cruze LTZ's toes and cause overlap there, and (b) isn't priced too closely to the Regal, in which case I think most buyers will choose the Regal.

I think a lot of people miss the point of this vehicle. It's not intended to be that 'sporty,' and is more of a La-Z-Boy on wheels. A place that you can park your ass comfortably after an eight hour stint in a cubicle. People spend about a month of their lives in gridlock; having a 'sporty' vehicle is entirely worthless when the fastest you'll ever go is 60km down a secondary road to skip a couple blocks of traffic.

This car is exactly like what I'm looking for. A compact car that still has a quality feel and look to it, with a bigger engine then the Cruze (which I need to test drive before I say that officially). However, 31 mpg?! I don't understand the point of the car. Aren't compact cars supposed to be more economical to drive? My 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix averages 29.5mpg consistently on my drives from NJ to Ohio. That is driving at speeds of 70-75. It seems like all new cars are so incredibly fat that there is little chance of getting exceptional fuel mileage. I would hope for at least 35 out of a compact car - no matter luxurious it should look or feel. Am I wrong for thinking 35 mpg highway should be typical of a compact car?

We spoke to Jim Federico for some length and he said the reason is performance. There is more to the car's performance than 0-60, it's the throttle tip in and the take off that they were aiming for. The car is supposed to feel spirited even though it's not a racer.

so Buick is not sport injected on this car.

I would dare say NO, YOU ARE NOT.

of course compact cars shouldn't weigh 3400 pounds and at 3400 pounds they should have good leg room all around.
