The original plan for the VW Up was for it to be a rear engined RWD model! They then changed their mind and went FWD so as to shair parts with other VW models for cost reasons! Just think of a new RWD Bug based off of the original plan for this car!;)----That would have been FUN!!

wow, Guess if you live in a state controlled we tax you on liter size engine you end up loving small cars as you are not allowed many other choices. I have to say, very ugly. Not a fan of the interior and over all just blah. Yet I will give it Kudo's for interior space as a inner city transport. A more powerful version of a golf cart.

This is the VW answer to the Spark. VW is holding off on the US market for now for reasons unknown to us.. but I bet the UP would take the US by storm if they did sell it here.

It might take the market by storm, but while the Spark, UP and other small compacts like this are the hot trend, I see more auto deaths in the future as people get killed in these cars due to the congestion of the highway system and larger trucks take them out. Not worth my life for the gas mileage.

I cannot attest to the Spark or UP, but the SMART car can take out 1/3 of a Benz S-class in a frontal collision and still have the passenger compartment survive.

Also, these cars aren't entirely about mileage but about zipping around a city easily. The Cruze gets better fuel economy than the Spark.

A smaller vehicle makes things easier in a lot of situations. Maintenance, parking, feeling at one with your steed...

As ever and always, I love big vehicles, from pickups to 1960 Pontiac Star Chiefs, but there is something to be said about zipping around a city, a small town, or a curvy country road in a small, moderately powered vehicle.

Human cage might survive, but I doubt the human body would.

"My" Move Up! 3-door with 15" Waffle alloys translates from British pounds to U.S. dollars at $16,776.69. That is the mid-level trim. Light Blue non-metallic with black/denim blue cloth.

What do you mean... from the force of the impact? The cage of the SMART had almost no intrusion into the passenger compartment. If there was a human inside, it would have survived

Real World Test shows that a human would not have survived.

Pretty amazing to see how it handles a 70mph crash, but I still would not want one or risk my life in one just for a few extra miles per gallon.

Did you listen to the caveat? That isn't unique of SMART. ANY car, even a Suburban, that goes from 70mph to 0 in less than one second will kill the passengers.... luckily, most impacts aren't this severe. You are no safer in a Suburban in this sort of accident.

It certainly has a less trendy, more mature look to it v. the Spark. The VW styling will look good years from now. And I much prefer a 3-door bodystyle, which VW and Fiat provide.

Agreed on the 3 door body style....

Agreed here....when a car (smart car, or the like) makes my MINI or my Miata look like a Lincoln town car, that car is too damned small...

I guess I didn't pay enough attention in class when the teacher was talking about Alfred E. Newton and his laws of physics.

I think this was one of those optional sleep time lectures. I know it put me to sleep. :P

  • Volkswagen ID.Buzz Coming to the U.S. in Long-Wheelbase Form

Volkswagen has been teasing us with the I.D. Buzz for 6-years when they made the announcement back in 2017 that they would bring the I.D. Buzz to market. The standard wheelbase model has been on sale in Europe since May of last year, and today, Volkswagen is officially announcing the long-wheelbase version for sale in the U.S. starting next year. The ID.Buzz will not, as previously reported, be built at VW's Chatanooga plant alongside the ID.4, instead being built in VW's Hanover Germ

The New Chevrolet Colorado gets a New Bison ZR2

The performance off-road mid-size pickup truck war has turned into a hot war in 2023.  Ford has recently released their 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor, and Toyota introduced an all-new 2024 Tacoma with an incredibly capable Tacoma TRD Off Road. Back in 2018, Chevrolet teamed up with American Expedition Vehicles to the 2019 Chevy Colorado Bison ZR2 to the Colorado lineup.  About a year ago, the all-new 2023 Colorado was released, and while there was a ZR2, the Bison was not part of the announcement
