What Do You Do When You Get This Message...?

I'm trying to access another forum and I all I have been getting constantly is one of these dip$h! messages.

The page cannot be displayed

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable.

The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you

may need to adjust your browser settings.

I know the site isn't having server problems. Plenty of other users I have briefly talked to told me they are not having problems and so on. I've tried many different adjustments, etc., and I'm getting really sick of the aggravation.

Got any advice?

i hate those words. "Page cannot be displayed" dont blame it on the computwer you probably set up the internet wrong or your local internet provider is glitching.

I know the internet browser isn't setup wrong...but it's Internet Explorer we're talking about here and IE hasn't been the best to me.

And it does this to two or three other websites sometimes...but they usually load after a little pursuation from the refresh button.

But seriously, it probably is the ISP. I really hate People PC, and I think I may go to Netscape. It's a buck cheaper and you get free web accelerator and virus protection.

People PC sucks.

Anyone else want to have a say in this? It really would help me here.

if your looking for a good free browser as well use Mozilla Firefox, it is the best, it blocks pop ups and lets you edit which pop ups you want and also doesnt let stuff from bad sites automatically download. sorry i coudltn help further.

since people here told me about firefox i have never turned back.

Do you have dial up, DSL, or Cable?

somtimes with DSL or D/U if there is static in the phone line it will cause pages to not load properly.

Well, I did download Firefox (I'm using it right now)...and I love it. Thanks for recommending it Capriceman and Charger.

But, still, I don't how to check for static. (More like I can't remember how to do it.)

The phone line going into the computer disconnect that and plug it into a landline phone (corded is best for this but you can use wireless) and listen for about 15 seconds then hang up and listen again. If you hear static try a different jack in the house if there isnt any static there then change the phone line going to the computer.

This is what happened to me i had a bad phone line going to the computer and it hindered all internet surfing errors everywere but i could bring up partial pages.

Wireless phones somtimes have static filters built in so sometimes you cant tell.

if you end up having static and changing the line didnt help call up phone provider and comense bitching.

It worked for me. so if you want give it a try.

'99?

I had a '98 HP Pavillion before I got my new '06 Pavilion Slimline...with 64 MB of memory. Yes, that's enough to remember one porn site and all the viruses attached. :D

Oh, and BV, if you ever get the chance to get a new computer, do not buy a Dell. They suck (overheating issues among other crap) and it actually wouldn't be much better than what you've got...maybe.

And, I'll be damned if it's not loading certain sites again...including this one. (I had to reload twice to get here.) I'll think I'll have to get one of those cables/super heavy duty phone cables that can suppress static...or whatever. (Yes, they actually make something like that. You can pick one up a Big Lots for about $2 to $5. It also may slightly increase modem speed.)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If by "investing in broadband internet" you mean buy a new Motorolla Cable Modem, then, yes, I think I'll somehow manage to scrape up a roll of green amounting to $250 and buy one. (Yes, the M-C-M is only $50, but I need the $200 for a new iPod. My old one busted about a month ago. <_<)

About that.... It's an old Gateway essential with W98. And thanks to many, many viruses and spyware over the years... I've had to redo the hard-drive about 6 times. It's not perfect because of that. :P

Oh, I hear ya' about the hard drive, BV. That old Pavillion I had, well, I had to restore Windows 98 Second Edition 3 times alone. And I lost all images and so forth. And then I'd get another virus. <_<

I believe there should be a federal punishment for people who give other people's computer's viruses. Like 1 to 5 years in the state pen with Big Bubba, who massages your back every night at eight before they dim the lights...

...I think I'll write to my Congressman...See how Star Wars Club member and self-certified hacker Nerdy Bobby likes Bubba's famous back massages...:scratchchin:
