First was the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class making its mark in the luxury compact sedan class. Now its Audi's turn to make its mark as its introduces the new 2014 A3 and S3 sedan tonight.

The design of the A3 and S3 sedan can be best described as an A4 going through a shink ray. The front end features Audi's signature grille and a set of LED headlights sitting on either side. The side profile features scalloping along doors, while the back has the unique trunk lid styling seen on the A4 and A8.

Size wise, the new A3 sedan is about 5.9 inches longer, 0.4 inches wider and 0.35 inches shorter than the A3 Sportback, even though both models share the same 103.8 inch wheelbase.

Inside, the A3 sedan has the same modern, minimalist styling seen on the Sportback. Audi has also fitted a revised MMI infotainment system with Google Earth and a seven-inch screen.

Standard equipment include leather upholstery, Bluetooth, rain-sensing wipers, panoramic sunroof, and Audi drive select with four settings: Auto, Dynamic, Comfort, and Individual. The options list will include a 705-watt, 14-speaker sound system and a driver assistance package that includes in Audi side assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Audi will offer buyers in Europe the choice of four different engines, including a 168 horsepower 1.8L direct injection gas engine and a 138 horsepower 2.0L diesel engine. Engines in the U.S. will be announced later. The S3 will come with a a turbocharged 2.0L four with 296 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque for Europe. Audi isn't saying whether those figures will stay the same for the U.S.

The 2014 Audi A3 and S3 sedan arrives in the U.S. in the first quarter of next year.

Outside looks great, interior dash is terrible, the screen looks like an afterthought, the two vents look like dear in the headlights or breast you pick, it has a terrible problem with a knob by the shifter. Reminds me of the Terrible BMW knob system, I forgot what they call it. Over all it might be considered minimalist, but it also looks CHEAP for an interior. Not Impressed! :nono:

Eleventeen thousand times better looking than the 1-Series.

Oh yeah, this might be my favorite of the show.

I can't be the only one who sees Audi Jetta here....

Nope, don't see it

I wonder if it is a reskinned Golf or Jetta...past A3s shared a lot w/ the Golf, IIRC.

Well it should be on their new flexible platform that the Golf uses.. Shouldn't matter as long as it is a great platform I wonder what the weight is on the S3, seems decent for 40K.

The A3 is on the new MQB modular platform like the Golf

I like it. Would be cool to have a baby bro to the A5... a coupe version.

Which is what the A3 name would go to... if Audi's naming was consistent. This should be an A2/S2
