Looking back, clearly the '77-'78 was a placeholder before the FWD '79 was ready. As far as downsizing at GM goes, the '77 B/C/D bodies, '78 A-and A-Specials, and '79 E bodies were all successful... after that, things took an historic nosedive. OK, maybe the '82 F-bodies were a stylistic success, saddled with gutless engines.

The B-Bodies and H-Bodies did rather well. the 92 Bonneville was a smash hit.
