WOW, Alaska Airlines and Southwest to cut scheduled flights and furlough employees as people flying has dropped majorly. Companies have also stated they have informed Boeing of delaying delivers of new planes.

Economy will see a big hit this quarter.

For those that like Engineering projects, the worlds longest pedestrain bridge is being built at SeaTac airport to connect the international arrival terminal to the main airport rather than have everything under ground. Pretty impressive on the web site.

https://www.portseattle.org/blog/five-fast-facts-about-iaf-pedestrian-walkway

The pictures and video are very cool to see the big planes taxing underneath it. To be completed and opened this coming fall.

Really cool...I do like airports and aircraft in terms of the infrastructure and operational aspects...

Love tech, Toyota new system for building HD road maps for supercruise like auto driving is impressive. One has to wonder how GM is doing it.

Iron Hand is the cool new tech GM is using to reduce repetitive hand injuries on the assembly line. Very cool tech read.

Recession anyone? 🤔

Will say this, my 401K investment from each weeks paycheck will buy me lots more now for my far, far, far in the future retirement.

There are traditionally 8 markers for a recession, but most are still solidly positive (such as unemployment, housing, etc). Stock market levels alone do not determine economic recessions, and even within the market, the indicators are that the recent dip is headline-driven, not fundamentals-driven.

Sorry Mr Felt, can’t celebrate yet! 🥳

Well she could only afford an L, and that is with my help.  The price I quoted above is an LT AWD for me.

Mistake! "New sealed beam headlamps increased the distance of lighting on the roadway in front of a vehicle and were introduced in 1955 as the new standard..."
Ford debuted sealed beam headlights across the board in 1940. I should know- I own one (and have read this dozens of times).

Pretty much all automakers in the US went to sealed beam in '40, didn't they?   Never was sure why they were called 'sealed beam'...so were their predecessors 'non sealed' ?

Not sure without checking RE the 1940 standard.
Yes; prior to, the lense & reflector stayed with the vehicle and you replaced the bulb. Obviously, we've gone back to 'non-sealed' beams... probably since the composite headlight came around.

Ok, so the bulb was sealed in the lens/reflector housing..I remember how the big round lights used on '60s-70s cars looked when removed...

There was some variety in headlight lens shapes in the 30s, IIRC from pictures I've seen the '39 Plymouth for example had squarish lights.

Yes- from what I've seen the pre-war lights worked like modern lights (bulb vs. housing).
I know the Plymouth lights- I think it's the Graham about the same time had sharply peaked headlight lenses. And others. Ruxton lights:

I like the front end on the late Grahams...saw one at a show once.  Some Streamline Moderne/art deco influences in that front trim..

Mini Pickups I believe have always had a spot in society especially in the inner city.

Will be interesting that is for sure especially if gas hits $1 a gallon due to the global economy and the oil war between Russia, Saudi Arabia and the US.

Too bad you won't fit in any of them! Maybe if you rip out the front seat and sit in the back seat to drive like Hightower in Police Academy :roflmao:

We can thank the nasty, wet grocery markets in China for Coronavirus/COVID-19 and their initial lack of response in alerting the world...and now the current stock markets ebb and flow around the world from the uncertainty of virus community spread.

Won't be a full recession financial crash like '08, just certain industries will suffer like airlines, cruise ship industry, some retail etc... Banks are flush with cash as per comments today from top execs from the big three, Chase, BofA and Wells and payroll tax cut on the way for all.

Are they getting it under control up there in WA yet? Heard the State bought an old Econo Lodge motel in Kent for a quarantine place.

Yes Washington has it under control and no the Econo lodge hotel did not get bought to be used as a quarantine site.

Right now the official state report is 29 dead with 297 infected and almost 1700 under quarantine at their homes awaiting test results.

DC does not like the states releasing information to the press, but I am glad the states are not listening to the incompetance in DC. Over all Evergreen Hospital which is in front of the Assisted living for Seniors in their final months of life has done an outstanding job of healing those that could heal, making those in their final days comfortable and having no patient to patient infections or employees sick. Have a solid handle on this. State has banned any and all large gatherings, trade shows are canceled till June or July for in state, pretty much not bad.

How is it in your part of the woods?

https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2020-03-05/seattle-area-officials-buy-4-million-quarantine-motel

Only 2 confirmed cases in AZ and one was over a month ago and the guy recovered already. Definitely have a handle on it here, our Governor, Doug Ducey, already has emergency relief plan ready to go if need be.

We all need to not panic, that's the worst that can happen and that has been relayed from our top doctors in the nation. MSM has blown this up and made this virus very political. Lets not forget that in 2009-2010 that 61 million Americans got Swine flu (H1N1) and nearly 12,500 in total died from it with 1,000 passing away before DC did anything about it at the time.

This flu season CDC estimates that there have been at least 34 million flu illnesses and 20,000 deaths have occurred so far this year. Some pretty eye opening statistics.

News is behind local news and the lawsuit the city filed against King County to stop them from buying the hotel and using it as a Covad19 site. Pretty much I think most of the cases will be handled at hospitals here. Course if the Idiots in DC and the Idiots in China did not delay and hid info from the states that had so much air travel, we could have probably kept it from getting so bad.

I went yesterday to Costco to do some shopping.  Usually Wednesday is very quiet day to do that.  Yesterday I had hard time finding parking space, the store was full.  There were NO toilet paper, No paper towels, NO packaged chicken, NO ground beef.  I see people buying 4-5 cases of water.  Simply crazy, people are going completely nuts and it is only the beginning.
