Merc Grd Marquis GS $18,152

8 posts in this topic

The 5/7/06 Chicago Tribune has a half-page ad about the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis GS for $18,152, after $5,000 cash back. Admittedly, the car is dated, but with a 5-star safety rating; what is listed as "best-in-class" trunk space, passenger volume, and standard horsepower; and 25 mpg highway, that's a lot of car for the money.

ehaase: Would you buy one?

I always buy the biggest car I can for the money, so I would certainly buy one (and have bought two Crown Victorias in the past). However, I also know that the Panthers aren't most people's cup of tea. They really weren't even advanced when introduced for the 1979 model year (when I was in the 9th grade). I have read articles stating that some components of the Panthers actually date back to the 1965 Galaxie. I am sure that these cars will be history by 2010.

Too big, too floaty, that "best in class" passenger room isn't very roomy, so no, I wouldn't buy one.

theyve advertised em here for either 15 or 16 i can't remember.

the 500 is a nice upgrade for not much more but either car is a nice solution if you want a big durable car for less money.

I'm glad they're still with us, and that price is an exceptional bargain, but I would not buy one... well, I'd give a CV LX Sport a look. They look pretty good in monochrome with the 5 spokers and dual exhausts.

Holy $HIT!

Yet another reason why I think the Cobalt is totally out.

RWD, BOF & V8  That's a killer combo!
