Ford News: Ford F-150 Heads Into Law Enforcement with Special Service Model

Recommended Posts

Ram has some competition with offering a pickup truck for law enforcement duties. Ford revealed today the F-150 Special Service Vehicle (SSV).

“Many officers need the extra space F-150 Special Service Vehicle offers. They can load the cargo box with equipment and still fit five people inside. Its utility is unmatched,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford police marketing manager.

The SSV comes in the base XL trim and is available in the SuperCab or SuperCrew cab configurations. Power can either come from a 5.0L V8 with 385 horsepower or a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 with 365 horsepower, along with the choice of two-wheel or four-wheel drive. Ford has also fitted 240-amp alternator to provide extra juice for lights and various equipment.

Inside, there is no middle seat or console. Just a gap that will allow for radios, computer, and other various equipment to be fitted.

Ford hasn't announced when police departments can place their orders for the F-150 SSV. But don't be shocked if you see an F-150 dressed up in a police uniform in the near future.

I read elsewhere, and have to agree its a good move for Law Enforcement agencies to use the safest 1/2 ton available. Which is this truck, the IIHS one and only top safety pick for its class.

So, I guess the next Transformers movie will have an F150, and Mustang police variants and maybe if the studio decides even a Conti as the new decepticons.

That'd be cool, I know that in the Transformers universe some decepticons were tasked to take on autobot forms to be even more...errr... deceptive.

Anyways in the films, the decepticons love to take on law enforcement/military forms.....

Yes safety is always good, but then not everyone likes the interior layout and I have seen people that find the controls confusing just because of the types of auto they have driven. So if Ford, Ram and GM all want to sell their trucks to Law Enforcement that is fine, but I do question if they really need a truck?

Already tax payers pay through the nose for fuel due to police being allowed to drive their cars home putting unneeded miles and gas use. Why can they not drive their own auto like the rest of us?

Same goes for Fire and all gov jobs where I see plenty of wasted miles put on auto's and gas spent due to letting employees drive the auto's home which is not needed.

So then the bad ass GMC large truck knocks off the nose or the F150 when they battle before it blasts a hole in it's heart? ;-)

Ah, it's all fun.

I mean, as in the epic foreshadowing, it goes both ways.

Like how the Pontiac Solstice - Chase, gets ripped apart by Megatron...and whoop de doo!!! How is reality like today?
