VW looks to make Passat in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Volkswagen is considering building Passats for North America in Mexico instead of Germany, said VW’s top manufacturing executive. The move would be a natural hedge against continued euro-dollar currency fluctuations.

sorry, no link but it was an automotive news

VW- watering down the brand?

that 40 grand Passat, I'd sure love it to be made in GERMANY

what next, Chinese Phaetons?

And Saab is Swedish (made in Poland, Germany, USA, Sweden), Toyohondassan is Japanese (made in Mexico, USA, Japan and God knows where else), Volvo is Swedish (made in Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden)... you get the point :).

There's nothing wrong with cars/trucks that are made in Mexico, it's that particular plant that has been shaky vis a vis quality control.

I think there's been alot of labor unrest, for some reason...

What Saab is built in Poland? Or Germany? And "God knows where else"...that's where they build Fords and Chevrolets and many other brands.

everyone expects USA mfrs to outsource and dilute the brand. Passats appeal were the fact you could buy a real German car for real middle class wages. Now the Passat is overpriced and they aren't real German cars then either.

Regardless of what people say, good products can be built in Mexico and China! It just depends on how the factory is set up and how the workers are trained. I would not mind buying a Mexican or Chinese made GM. I'm sure many of my customers will think the same way.
