Top Gear F-150 Lightning Review

Recommended Posts

The more videos I see of this goofball the more I realize he's

juat a jelaous asshole who is resentfull of living in the UK for

all the obvious reasons, including the weather. It's always,

always overcast in those videos, I guess that's partly to balme

for his consistantly $hitty mood.

He likes to poke a lot of fun at USA made cars & trucks... but

the whole "inbred" thing was just over the top and shows how

little professionalism he has... which is fine if he wasn;t so two

faced.

Here's some cold hard truth:

Most people in the UK drive piece of $h! tiny-assed cars wiht

displacement smaller than a 2-liter of Coke because their

government taxes the s#it out of gasoline and because their

$h!ty roads are better suited for skinny pedestrians and not

any car that actaully has some marginal leg & shoulder room.

And as far as cars made in the UK.... well if I was an asshole

like he is I'd insert a Rover joke here. And you know that

company that makes the F150? They own Land Rover, Jaguar

and Aston Martin. Yeah.... >>>BURN!<<<

Not to mention those morons who made a thier first effort in

the "entry level luxury car" segment the over-the-top Phaeton

you know the guys who make the Golf, Polo & Bora? They own

your precious Bentley.

And lest I forget that another German company owns your

over rated and vastly inferior ($-per-$) Rolls Royce. That's

what happens when you try to make the same $h!box with

the same styling and underpowered motor for 45 years. A

company like BMW who actually know how to make a car

worth half a million dollars buys you out. Is that why this

guy is sooooo pissy?

Their reviews of daft American cars like the Lightning are usually facetious and are meant to get a laugh from the audience. This is especially obvious in this review, as no one buys such trucks in the UK and the Lightning was already out of production for a while. Clarkson is usually quite objective, only making fun of stereotypical foibles if the car is no good, or if no one buys them. Examples of his unbiased reporting include him constantly bashing the S-type and singing the praises of the Vette Z06.

I think what it comes down to is that most people outside the US (even including myself) just don't get WHY the US buys so many pickup trucks. There can't be that many people with farms and dirty jobs - so what do they all need trucks for? I never plan to own a farm or a trailer, so I could NEVER see myself in a pickup truck... I just don't get how they are the 3 best sellers. Clarkson is even more removed from the US than I am, so it makes even less sense to him.

I'm in the US and I don't understand why trucks sell so well either..I have no reason to own one, and they have no appeal to me--big, thirsty, poor as far as safety, etc.. SUVs I can understand--I own one myself--but trucks make no sense to me (outside of ranchers, farmers, businesses that use them, etc).

:Throws bucket of water on Sixty8:

Calm down, Jingo, it'll help you live a lot longer.

Clarkson's actually written several articles commending the American and German companies on their management of the British brands. And he's a fan of the Golf and Focus. And as you can see in that article, he hates Rover, and any other $h!ty car, regardless of their country of origin. Believe it or not, some people can make jokes about other countries without being malicious.

Here's a link to Clarkson's Eulogy to Rover. I think you'll like it.

Goodbye, Rover. Sorry I won't be shedding a tear.

"What’s more, it didn’t matter. Back then, everyone still had a sense that Britain ran the world, that Japanese cars were a joke and that the Germans were a bunch of war-losing bastards. They were all so arrogant, so far removed from the harsh reality of foreign competition, that they refused even to look at the competition. "

Change "Britain" to "America" and you basically have the mentality of a lot of the posters on this site.
