Ford News: Ford F-Series Super Duty Limited Shows Luxury Super-Sized

With the rising demand for luxury pickups, manufacturers are going all in offering appointments you would find in luxury sedans and SUVs. 

Case in point is the new Limited trim for Ford's F-Series Super Duty, which made its debut today at the Texas State Fair. Ford says the Limited is positioned for high-end customers, “from boat captains to captains of industry.”

The Limited begins with a custom Camelback two-tone leather upholstery, stitched leather-wrapped steering wheel, stitching for armrests and instrument panel, a suede headliner, hand-finished dark ash trim, and the truck's VIN number laser etched in the center console. Outside, there is a new chrome grille, LED headlights, and a chrome piece on the tailgate. Standard equipment includes a 360-degree camera system, panoramic moonroof, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. Did we mention that it can tow up to 30,000 lbs?

All of this luxury does come at a price. The F-250 Limited begins at $80,835; F-350 Limited starts at $82,010; and F-450 Limited kicks off at $87,100 - prices include a $1,295 destination charge.

DALLAS, Sept. 28, 2017 – Ford – America’s truck leader – today pulls off the wraps of a new F-Series Super Duty Limited that sets new luxury standards for high-end heavy-duty truckers.

With pricing at $87,100, the F-450 Limited delivers technology and comfort previously reserved only in premium flagship sedans, and it’s capable enough to tow more than 30,000 lbs. – about the weight of a stealthy Air Force F-35 fighter plane.

“The Super Duty lineup is a win for all of our customers, from successful ranchers to contractors to RV owners,” said Todd Eckert, Ford Truck group marketing manager. “Super Duty Limited is the most luxurious and advanced heavy-duty pickup truck ever created by Ford for accomplished buyers, with appetites for the high life and hard-earned dollars to match.”

Starting MSRPs (including $1,295 destination; taxes and fees not included) are:

  • F-250 Super Duty Limited 4x4 - $80,835
  • F-350 Super Duty Limited 4x4 - $82,010
  • F-450 Super Duty Limited 4x4 - $87,100

Customers who check every option box can top one out for as much as $94,455.

What’s the point?

“There are heavy-duty truck customers who need Super Duty-level capability and want true luxury,” Eckert said. “We created this new truck to answer the call for even more premium choices in the Super Duty range as we see more and more truck customers trending to more premium models.”  

More than 50 percent of the Super Duty lineup’s retail sales this year are high-end models – including Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum series. Limited goes even further.

“Imagine opening the door to your humidor and sinking into your favorite leather lounge chair – that’s the sensation new Super Duty Limited inspires,” said Ford design manager Aileen Barraza.

Custom Camelback two-tone leather seats, premium stitched leather-wrapped steering wheel, armrests and instrument panel, Miko® suede headliner, hand-finished dark ash wood trim, special badging set the interior apart. Outside, a special twin-bar satin grille with chrome accents, quad-beam LED lights and satin-finished tailgate applique are Limited’s unique calling cards. Each Limited also has a dedicated serial number laser-etched on the center console armrest.

OUCH, Nice Truck but not worth the cost unless I had a company with a job that required the power, but why the luxury, I cannot really say this is worth it over another truck or SUV. This has gotten crazy. I wonder just how many of these high end trucks they really sell?

Those prices are insane. I guess if people are willing to pay for them then why not? 

Maybe it's because I don't have the cash for a 90k vehicle in general and if I did it wouldn't a truck but I couldn't see how somebody would want to spend that much on a truck. I guess people with money don't all have the same taste in vehicles and this is an example of that.

I see Platinums/Limiteds at least once a week in various places. Not to say they sell a million of them but they must do pretty well if they're doing this with the bigger trucks too.

The interior looks pretty much like any other premium trim F150.  No way is this thing worth $80k base and $100k with options.  But there are some fools out there that will pay it, so Ford is smart to take their money.

I doubt Ford would create these (as well as Ram and GM) if there weren't a market, regardless of whether I would consider one.

It does go back to the, if I can spend X amount on one vehicle and not $40K on a truck and another $50K or more on a luxury vehicle....?

And while the drive might not be sedan-like.... I can honestly say the comfort for all concerned inside is darn good.

Considering it's huge towing and hauling capability, 4x4, buckets of luxury, endless tech and features, and roominess, I would say it is worth it.

Hey, I have seen 2 seaters that barely fit 1 set of golf clubs let alone 2, and are completely useless for day to day, cost much more than that.

      Ford teamed up with Webasto to build a new Ford Mustang EV concept car for the SEMA auto show in Las Vegas.  The car is a showcase for what is possible with electrification and emerging technologies in that field.
      The show car comes with more than 1,000 lb.-ft of torque and 900 horsepower routed through a 6-speed manual transmission. The car has been lowered an inch and sits on 20-inch staggered forged wheels. Under the hood is a dual-core electric motor with dual power inverters. Power comes from an 800-volt Webasto battery system that can discharge a mega-watt of electrical energy.  At 800 volts, the Mustang Lithium runs at twice the voltage that most electric cars on the road today use. That allows the system to be lighter, more powerful, and generate less heat. 
      The transmission is a drag-strip version of the Getrag MT82 6-speed with billet internals to handle the huge torque.  
      Mustang Lithium features a unique set of drive modes that apply a controlled amount of torque for different driving scenarios including: Valet, Sport, Track and Beast, and are instantly available on demand via a custom in-dash 10.4-inch touchscreen display.
      Ford is investing $11.5 billion in electrified vehicles by 2022, including an all-new Mustang inspired EV SUV and a Ford F-150 BEV.

      Ford and the United Auto Workers (UAW) have reached a tentative labor contract deal in just days after the strike at General Motors ended.  The details of the deal have not yet been released, but Ford did confirm the deal in a short statement. The talks began on Monday and the two sides quickly made progress on the smaller issues.
      Various UAW leaders from the U.S. plants will meet on Friday to approve the deal which then must be sent to Ford's 55,000 union members for ratification. 
      Ford has a closer relationship with the UAW than the other Detroit manufacturers with Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford calling the UAW "Family" and that the UAW "helps to make Ford better and stronger". 
      Once the deal with Ford is ratified, the UAW will move on to negotiate with FCA.
