Ford News: 2019 Ford Ranger To Begin at $25,395

Ford has launched the configurator for the 2019 Ranger today and we got our first look at pricing. It will begin at $25,395 for the XL extended-cab model with 2WD - price includes $1,095 destination charge. Pricing for the rest of the lineup is as followed,

• $27,615 - XL SuperCrew 2WD
• $29,035 - XLT SuperCab 2WD
• $29,555 - XL SuperCab 4WD
• $31,210 - XLT SuperCrew 2WD
• $31,775 - XL SuperCrew 4WD
• $33,035 - XLT SuperCab 4WD
• $33,305 - Lariat SuperCab 2WD
• $35,210 - XLT SuperCrew 4WD
• $35,480 - Lariat SuperCrew 2WD
• $37,305 - Lariat SuperCab 4WD
• $39,480 - Lariat SuperCrew 4WD

There are a number of options on offer such as appearance packages, spray-in bed liner, and 8-inch touchscreen with Sync3. Go crazy on the options, and you can have a Ranger that will cost you over $45,000. All Rangers come with a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder paired up with a ten-speed automatic.

Compared to other models in the class, the Ranger has the highest base price. The Nissan Frontier is the cheapest at $19,965, followed by the Chevrolet Colorado ($21,590), GMC Canyon ($22,095), and Toyota Tacoma ($24,740).

It still will be awhile before you can drive a Ranger off the dealer's lot as it will launch early next year.

Ouch, reviewing the configurator and building it with what I would want, $44K is pricy for this truck and the plastic interior.

In all fairness, that's all of them. Trucks are just expensive. Colorado, Canyon, Tacoma and Frontier all reach into the 40's with plastic-y, truck interiors.

Yeah, the despair gray cheap plastic interiors are fine for a $20-25k truck, but absurd for something that is $40k, IMO...

Rico, I just posted above you that it gets the 10 speed standard.  At least that's the info I got from going to the Ranger site.

Played around with the configurator, not much in the way of options..I don't see a sunroof available on any of the trim levels.

Or that equivalent comparison elsewhere I guess still holds.

I feel like for that price you could also get a pretty nice midsize crossover, like a Durango.

True.  The 2019 Terrain SLE Black Edition AWD 2.0t I priced out is $36,500.

I guess the only way to avoid the plastic interior is to buy an F-series instead, which is what Ford wants anyway.  This feels very 1970s and 1980s.

Yeah it's even fine around 30k, imo. Once you click "Latiat" it should be a little nicer but I don't know how you financially do that without upcharging EVEN MORE. I can't see it happening but maybe if it sells well they will have a "Limited" or "Platinum" trim like the F150 or Denali of the Canyon.

Yeah, but if they did a Platinum or Limited it would be $50k probably, which seems really absurd for an old 4cyl truck.

That's likely around where the Raptor version will be. One can be luxury and one can be performance. That's kind of how they're doing the F150.

Also, while I'm not a huge fan of 4cyl only, if it is the lowest tune they currently offer with the 2.3 it would still be the torque leader by a large margin for a gas engine. 

The weakest rating for the 2.3 is in the MKC and it's 285hp/305tq compared to the Colorado's V6's 308hp/275tq.

I like this Ranger, I think it will have plenty of power.  I don't have delusions that it will have exceptional fuel economy since it is an Ecoboost, but overall, I like the country boy aura that surrounds it.

Yet I also like the blackout Terrain.  And the Blazer RS.  Both come across as urban sophisticates.

The Colorado is in between.  Love the Pacific Blue on the '19, and the CHEVROLET grille that is a dealer installed option, not to mention the cool new optional 18" wheel design. 

When optioned how I'd want them... the Colorado (LT Convenience) ends up about $3,000 higher priced than the Ranger (XL STX FX4).

I could spring for a Colorado Custom (comes with the 18" wheel standard) with GM Accessory foglamp kit to bring the Chevy's price down closer to the Ford... but GM has a restrictive color palette on the Custom... ho hum black, silver, red or white.

GM just does not offer enough cool options on their cheaper trim levels when compared to the Ranger.  They have no stand-alone off-road package... you have to go up to a Z71 for any off-road cred in a Chevy... it is not customer-friendly.

2018 F-150 XLT SuperCrew FX4 4X4 and 2.7L EB V6 = $46,465.  No other options.  Ford requires an unrelated option package to get FX4 in the F-150.  Currently on that F-150 build there is a $2800 rebate which brings it down somewhat from the MSRP quoted, but if comparing apples to apples, the Ranger is about $6000 cheaper in Suave's config.
