Ford News: Mustang Mach E Is The Name For the New Ford EV

Recommended Posts

Yes, regardless of the naming, if it achieves 370 mile range with good performance and drivability then it could be a very interesting product....but I wonder what the price point will be...will they price it like a Mustang GT or a Shelby?

I wish for the GT, but early adopters I could see them go after Shelby pricing.

Be interested to see how the F150 EV / Rivian R1T does once they are for sale in the near future.

That would make sense.  Electra is the perfect name for an EV.

Using the Mustang name just seems like a cheap, cynical marketing stunt.   Why not give this new, unique product it's own identity?  Or relate it to an existing crossover like Edge.   If it fails, it will tarnish the Mustang name.

It wouldn't be the first time they put the Mustang name on a garbage Mustang.

I also expect this to start around 50k or even more. Hopefully not, but let's be honest here.. it will.

Yes, but the Mustang II stuck to the Mustang formula..2dr, RWD, V8 available...mediocre, but consistent with the formula.

I wonder if Mustang fans have the testicular fortitude to complain about this (as they need to) as loudly as they complained about the Probe fiasco.  Time will tell.  This is a disastrous move.

Naw, they will take it in stride, just look how they took the Mustang II. :P

Ford should have NOT use Mustang on this, They should have used a new family name for the EV portfolio.

I expect they will complain vociferously.  And they now have the internet.   This is a very stupid move on Ford's part.  I have no problem with Ford building an EV CUV--it's a great idea, but it's a dreadful idea to badge it as a Mustang.     Just stupid, cynical marketing.   Probably some marketing Millennial with no sense of product history made the naming decision.  Mustangs are supposed to fun, sporty 2 dr RWD cars...not pudgy CUVs.

Ford is thinking yeah an iconic nameplate will sell well. Problem is it's a Pony Car not a CUV that's iconc about it, a pony car that's been around since the early muscle car era known for having a thirsty, loud, V8 Gasoline engine. I think you're right @Robert Hall probably a couple of new blood Millennial's in the Marketing Dept. with no real history lesson on the car.

Maybe this is Ford's plan with keeping the Mustang around, knowing they're going to manufacture it with it's own full line of "Mustang branded" vehicles. HUGE mistake!!

So is anything known about the platform yet?  Is this a new dedicated EV platform, or just the Edge or Fusion platform with EV components and new body & interior?

I believe it is an all new dedicated platform, but we'll find out in a few days.

I do not think its Millennials naming this EV as a Mustang.

I think its old skool Dearborn and Detroit  dinosaur execs that are afraid  that their "Mustang inspired EV" wont sell, so they want to attach it to something  youthful that represents FoMoCo for the last 50-60 years that represents fun and sporty and hip and they decided to (mis)use the Mustang brand for it...

Like everything and everyone else, I will blame the old dinosaur white guy for the naming...

So according to this Jalopnik article w/ leaked info, there will supposedly be 5 trims with starting prices ranging from $43k to $60k for the GT.

RWD or AWD, 230 to 300 mile range depending on spec, and the GT capable of mid-3 sec 0-60.   Not bad...

Look at you stealing Drew's thunder 😁

Could just be named the Edge-E (Edgy) minus the distinctive Mustang taillights :D Looks like a weird bloated Mustang morphed into a CUV...I guess what they were going for. Inside looks pretty clean though. Also, looks like Ford found the OEM who makes the Tesla jumbo touchscreen and added a couple more inches. Seems like that much screen would be very distracting while driving.

Seems like this could be the first credible Tesla competitor from a US automaker.

That's great, but can they deliver like Tesla...oh...wait...😁

Seriously though, I don't think they should have gone the "Mustang branding" route with a CUV. That front-end sure looks like a mix of Model X and 1st Gen. Model S.

Well, Ford knows how to manufacture autos and has an extensive dealer network, so those are advantages.   Time will tell...definitely interesting times...will the Mustang branding help or hurt it?  Clearly going to be marketing it as a performance EV...

Now when will GM start releasing a variety of EVs?  One goofy looking subcompact hatch isn’t enough...

Chinese market for Chevrolet comes first. . Based on that goofy hatch...

Chevrolet Menlo.

Image result for chevrolet menlo ev"                        Not as sexy as the Mustang Mach-E, but definitely sexier than the Bolt itself.

Oh yeah, then there is the Buick Velite 6...China market only...suprise surprise...

But its the Ford Mustang Mach-E that is a truest DIRECT Tesla product competitor. Both in terms of range, performance and  driving characteristics.

They definitely have the dealer network Tesla doesn't that's for sure.

GM has a Bolt EUV with range of over 300 miles coming by 2021 as well. I agree Bolt is kinda goofy and too small and the EUV is still too small for me, but it's on the way.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a27542133/chevrolet-bolt-euv-2021-crossover-spied/

Mary Barra has stated that GM will have 20 BEV's globally by 2023, yes being a huge manufacturer with several other eggs in the basket we'll be lucky to have 10 by then really even 5 BEV's would be sufficient for the current EV market.

Cadillac long range BEV SUV said to lead the big EV push is coming in the next couple of years as well.

China needs BEV's like yesterday with all the smog and other pollution they have going on right now, their vehicle emissions standards are horrible and gasoline is crazy expensive there. I read the Chinese gov't is giving large Corp. incentives to get them out now as well.

We don't have the EV market in the U.S. yet to have a bunch of BEV's running around with people waiting in line to plug in. Many people are just set in their ways and a BEV is really a lifestyle change. Gas is still pretty cheap here as well so for many to take the EV plunge the full incentive just isn't there as of now. In the next 10 years we will see some change though.

GM is using Cadillac to lead the BEV way like they should. They have the Cadillac BEV SUV coming out in the next year or so to challenge Tesla. Bolt and Bolt EUV were not designed to take on Tesla directly.

I'll be impressed if Ford can pull off this Stang Mach-E launch. I hope it's better than the disastrous 2020 Explorer/Aviator launch for their sake.

Pretty mean looking in your face picture with C&D write up here... https://www.caranddriver.com/ford/mustang-mach-e

      NEURON EV

CES 2020 has been a busy place this year with more auto companies showing of prototypes and finally production ready auto's than ever before. We have seen so much including the latest in super dense solid state batteries for the EVs to motorcycles and bikes.
This year we now get to see the latest competition to Tesla and Rivian in a well funded California / China based EV auto company called NEURON EV. This company has a swiss army knife of a truck/suv auto as well as a Semi truck that they say is going into production in 2020.

The truck which is seen here in Silver has a sister truck that was running around the streets which is the following Black T-One.

All the details you could ever want can be found here on this truck: https://www.neuronev.co/new-products/t-one-p-gyrwr
The cool thing about this modular truck is that is can be more than a truck, a tractor, a van. there are no limits to how one can configure up this beast of an EV.

The seat options are an interesting take as you can go like how Tesla showed their Semi with a center driving position as a base 3 seat configuration of 3 captain chairs, or a single drivers captain chair and a bench seat behind for 4 people and go from there to cover a wide range of colors, materials, etc. in customizing your auto.
While this company is looking at this modular truck and semi for the US, in china they will have many more auto options including their V.E.G.A. or Versatile Electric Grand Automobile.

The company has great plans and while they have only two models for the US market, China will get many more that includes a medium duty truck, a bus, a MAP or Multipurpose Autonomous Platform focused on shipping yards, a HUB or autonomous transportation auto, in addition to the car, semi and truck.
NEURON EV has not released any details about their hp / torque other than to say class leading at this time. Two wheel drive and All Wheel Drive will be the choices folks will have and talk of a base 300 mile range battery pack. More details are to come later this year.
First Press release of 2020 can be found here:

At an event is Seoul, South Korea yesterday, Genesis finally unveiled their new GV80 luxury SUV.  The overall look of the GV80 has been leaking out on the internet for months, but we finally get the full official release now.
The interior and exterior of the GV80 is designed with a common thread to give a familial look with the G70, G80, and G90.  The GV80 introduces a new quad headlamp design that will eventually filter out to the other vehicles in the Genesis lineup. The crest grille first seen on the G90 is here too. The interior of the GV80 focuses on the "beauty of white space". The designed accentuated the width and space of the of the interior with wide horizontal lines and thin air vents.  In the center is a 14.5-inch split screen infotainment display. Genesis intentionally limited the number of hard buttons and switches for aesthetic reasons. The GV80 comes in either 5-seat or 7-seat models. On up-level models, soft materials cover every surface from the inside of door handles to quilted knee pads that line the lower sides of the console.  The transmission selector is a dial in the center console. The integrated controller can be operated by an onscreen keyboard or by handwritten letters.
Trips in the GV80 are designed to be stress-free. It gets equipped with a Road Active Noise Cancellation technology to reduce road noise. The system is one of the advanced and fast responding systems in the world. The electronically controlled suspension with road preview helps maintain a smooth ride by recognizing road imperfections ahead via a front camera.
The GV80 is based on a unique new rear-wheel drive platform, while all-wheel drive is available.  In South Korea is till be equipped with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine while the U.S. will get a choice between two unspecified turbocharged engines. All-wheel drive models in the U.S. will be equipped with an electronic rear limited slip differential.
There is a host of safety and driving assistance technologies in the GV80 including Smart Cruise Control with Machine Learning, Highway Driving Assist II, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot collision Avoidance Assist, Rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, and driver attention alert warning. In the event of a collision, there are 10 airbags, including a center mounted airbag between the front occupants.

At an event in Vail, Colorado today, GMC took the wraps off the 2021 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.  As before, the top of the Yukon lineup will be the Denali trim, but joining the Denali for the first time is the brand's new AT4 trim which is a more off-road ready version.
The Yukon gets an all-new interior while the Denali gets its own exclusive version. The Denali instrument panel is completely new and there are also unique seats  and four color themes.  Real wood trims with a natural look and texture join with a Denali only leather, hand-stitched interior.  For the driver, there is a 15-inch diagonal multicolor heads-up display.  On the Denali, AT4, and SLT trims, there is an available power sliding center console that allow the console to slide back up to 10 inches offering a large storage area.
Joining the lineup is the AT4 version. All GMC nameplates except the Savanna will be getting an AT4 version by the end of this year.  The Yukon AT4 gets a unique front fascia, and body color or dark accents around the outside, and a pair of red recovery hooks on the front.  The AT4 can be ordered with a four-corner air ride adaptive suspension that can raise the vehicle an additional 2-inches. The air ride system also lowers the vehicle 0.75 of an inch when at speed and can lower the vehicle up to two inches for easier ingress and egress.
Also included in the Yukon AT4 are at two-speed transfer case, 20-inch wheels, traction select system with off-road mode, hill descent control, skid plats, AT4-exclusive leather appointed seats, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats, and heated outboard second row seats.
The 4th generation of GM's magnetic ride control is available in certain trims. Also available is an electronic limited slip differential. When in 4WD low, the eLSD operates at full lock to prevent wheelslip.
The Yukon will offer three engine choices. An all-new version of the 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque is a buy-up option. Standard is the venerable 5.3-liter, updated with new stop/start technology and dynamic fuel management which can allow the vehicle to run on as few a two cylinders.  Additionally, a 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder turbo diesel joins the Yukon for the first time.  No matter which engine is selected, the transmission is a 10-speed automatic activated through GMC's new Electronic Precision Shift push-button selector.
Like the recently revealed 2021 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, the Yukon gains 4.9-inches in wheelbase and that leads to a big increase in interior room.
