The First-Ever All-Electric Chevy Equinox EV – An EV For Everyone | Chevrolet

NINETY EIGHT REGENCY

"Around $30,000" is what they say.  I am skeptical they will actually hit that, or if they do, it will be for the 2024 base model, which basically won't exist, they'll only make 10,000 2024 models before production ramps up and the 2025 model will base at like $40k.  Now that has been the playbook of every other EV, if GM can scale this thing up at $30k base and like $40k loaded, they should be able to kick some ass.  But only Tesla has been able to produce EV's at scale to this point.

@smk4565 Mary is committed to and says they have the costs lined up to hit the $30,000 Price point. It will be a FWD 1LT base model and that all dealers will have to carry this in stock.

Thank you @NINETY EIGHT REGENCY as my day has been just crazy to be able to get a full write up on the press release with all the pictures and videos.

Other News is that Mercedes is unable to build their own electric van and as such has turned to Rivian signing a letter and committing to building a joint plant where Rivian will use their Electric van platform that they are building delivery for Amazon Prime and will build Commercial vans to be sold under both Rivian and Mercedes badging.

GM says that now, but how do we know at launch they won't just sell the RS model and maybe the 2LT or LTZ whatever the top one is, then 1LT becomes available spring 2024, only to end 2024 production 3 months later and for 2025 model year the 1LT becomings $37k due to "market fluctuations" or some BS.  Much like the $35k Model 3 that never happened, or the $40k Lightning that never really happened since they are like $48k with destination now and I don't think they even built any base models.

If GM can deliver on $30k from day one and have them on dealer lots and not an order now and get it in 6 months situation then big win for them.

That Mercedes-Rivian thing is splitting cost on a factory.  The factory will build Rivian platform vans and Mercedes platform vans, 2 different products on 2 different platforms.  Probably a good move for both because Mercedes has factories and Rivian has investor cash that they can use to pay for factory space.

You still missed that while the Mercedes platform will be used for retail vans, the commercial side will be having Rivian build vans for Mercedes to sell based on the Rivian Platform.

"They will aim to produce two large vans, one based on VAN.EA (MB Vans Electric Architecture), the electric-only platform of Mercedes‑Benz Vans, and the other based on the second generation electric-van, Rivian Light Van (RLV) platform. Further options for increased synergies from the joint venture will also be explored."

And per Yahoo Finance

"The two companies will make two large vans - one based on Mercedes-Benz's VAN.EA platform and the other based on the Rivian Light Van electric platform - at the plant, which will be Rivian's first site in Europe.

Mercedes also said it would restructure German factories that currently build Sprinter vans to offset higher costs for electric vehicles.

"Currently all our transporters are produced in Germany. We are the only manufacturer doing this ... we want to keep production in Germany but it is only viable in combination with a lower cost location," Geisen said.

Mercedes is already cooperating with Renault and Nissan on small electric vans, which would not be affected as they are in a different vehicle segment with different requirements, Geisen said.

The collaboration with Mercedes comes at a crucial time for Rivian. The electric van and adventure vehicle company has struggled to ramp up production at its Illinois factory as supply chain disruptions and rising materials prices forced it to cut staff and delay product programmes.

Rivian shares are down nearly 68% for the year to date.

Sharing the costs of a European assembly plant with Mercedes should help the startup, which burned through $1.2 billion in the second quarter, conserve cash and save for its second U.S. assembly plant planned for 2025."

So that's 2 different vans on 2 different platforms.  I assume electric Sprinters and that Amazon van.  Although these 2 should collaborate on a joint product and split the Bille like the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra.  It's a van, you just need a box with a battery in the floor, that can all be common parts, then each gets their own front end look and dashboard.  Sounds like a win-win.

  • Chevy Estimated Range for Silverado EV Work Truck Raised to 450 miles

When Chevrolet initially took the wraps off the Silverado EV last year, GM had estimated up to a 400 mile range based on its own calculations.  As the Silverado EV has made its way through development, it went for EPA certification and came back with 50 miles more than GM's estimate.  With this new EPA certification, the Silverado EV has an over 100-mile advantage over its only on-sale competitor the F-150 Lightning Extended Range (320 miles). The Silverado EV will launch first in WT trim with t

All New 2024 Toyota Tacoma Yearns For Adventure

The Toyota Tacoma has been the best-selling mid-size pickup in the U.S. for nearly 20 years. Holding such an important place in the lineup, Toyota has been very conservative with updates in the past.  The outgoing generation ran for a full 7 years, but even that was based on a platform that dates all the way back to 2004.  For 2024, the Tacoma sheds the old platform entirely and joins the Tundra and Sequoia on Toyota's new TNGA-F global truck platform.  The 2024 Tacoma is the latest (and final)

The Ford Ranger Raptor Finally Comes to the US

After years of being forbidden fruit offered only in overseas markets, Ford has finally deemed the Ranger Raptor worthy enough to bring to the U.S. The biggest reason for the U.S. not getting the prior version was its standard diesel power and the inability of the platform to take a sizable V6 engine. When Ford redesigned the 2024 Ranger (read more about the 2024 Ford Ranger here), they made sure to alter the engine bay and chassis to accommodate a V6. Powering the Ranger Raptor is a 3.0-li
