LONDON -- Soaring costs of materials such as lithium and nickel used to make electric vehicle batteries are starting to feed through into prices of batteries in China, Benchmark Mineral Intelligence said this week.

This is contrary to expectations that prices of the lithium ion rechargeable batteries used to power electric vehicles, vital for the energy transition, would keep falling over time as economies of scale kicked in.

    interesting news.

so, in the work that I do, construction related.  I was on a seminar that was given by 'a top state fire fighting / protection professional' last week.  a question from the attendees was related to 'what is needed for updates in the code due to electric vehicle parking (etc).'.s

'lithium batteries are our new nemesis'.

    'our new job security'

    I forgot...the Trailblazer.

Spark and Malibu are gone for 2022.

You sooooo want to make a case for BEVs being expensive.  Get over it...

Average transaction prices of new car sales in the US are just a tad below to what a Model 3 sells for... The mythical 35 000 dollar Model 3 never showed its face. But does it matter?  The Model 3 flew off the shelf anyway. It still does. And if Elon could eek out MORE money from future consumers, then why not?

Its still early in the 2020s.  We got a whole decade ahead of us. A whole decade of battery tech improving and actually becoming cheaper to produce.

    It. Will. Happen.

PS:  It STILL doesnt change the fact that GM has, in effect, ALSO raised its prices by limiting the amount of cheaper models to sell.  A move that you yourself have blasted Tesla for doing.

Tesla has eliminated the mythical 35 000 model 3 option and you didnt like it.  GM has done the same for 2022 by getting rid of the Spark AND a 23 000 dollar Malibu effectively only having one shytty 20 000 dollar Trailblazer to offer the poor folk to buy.

What happened to a century plus of ICE tech to offer the poor folk some transportational ICE options for their transportational ICE needs?

gmauthority (who seems to have the best GM news) says 2022 Malibu production started Nov 1.

  2. where's the motor pictures, all i see is pictures of a starter?  LOL

love this retro ford as a concept.

looks like the gauge cluster was replaced with a jensen cheap car stereo from walmart, and an ipad stuck on the dash (yes i know its Mac H parts).

Wish we had this emotor back in the day when we had Vegas with engines that kept needing to be rebuilt.  Dad was always rebuilding Vegas. Maybe simple electric motors for those would have been the schiz.....

  3. Really been digging and checking out on line the new Jeeps, the new Grand Cherokee 2 row, Grand Cherokee L 3 row, and the new Grand Wagoneer.  That Grand Wagoneer is boss.  Would seriously consider one over an Escalade.  Much nicer seemingly.  Escalade has Super Cruise though.

Losing interest in GM at an alarming rate these days.  At least GM's Silverado updates should help; they improved the interiors.

Many of GM's products seem to be left to rot these days.

Wowza.  I didn’t realize they made a CT6 PHEV. Must have been a blink-and-miss-it model.  I remember the ELR, though.

CT6 PHEV is actually a pretty sweet ride!!!!   check out my review!

  5. The latest RAV4 is a huge seller and actually has a semi stylish exterior. The highlander also it could be said same thing. Those 2 alone sell huge. The fact that they didn’t botch the styling on those 2 compared to their other styling disasters shows at least they are capable of improving parts of their operation that used to suck more. So they could potentially be capable of holding their #1. But then they continue to have sucky Tundras etc. IDK.

Column shift now with the ability to have electronic versions is a true waste of space as that center console is just so FAT! Talk about a waste of leg space and comfort. One thing I love about my 94 GMC Suburban is that the center stops with the seats and you still have a big open space, very roomy and comfortable at the legs.

Not my Suburban, but my interior does look like this, but much cleaner. Love the leg space, love that Rivian has taken this approach in their R1T and R1S auto's.

i love that era of GM dashboards.....lots of rectangular or square buttons ...so many operative choices!

Sure hope the console shifter isn't mandatory across most trims, and is a HC-level thing. Dumb waste of space.

Update looks good, tho it's a bit more mainstream. I'd prefer the '19-21 nose, all else being equal.
    Interior looks great.

No, the column shifter is still available and will probably be the most shipped.

some of the truck consoles are out of control.

Uprated turbo 4 really intrigues me.

  8. whats crazy.  spouse works in the building across the road in this picture (with the half round entry feature).  sort of crazy to be fortunate enough that we work less then a mile apart......except of course during this covid she is working from home fully.   how often does your S.O.'s work office end up less than a mile from yours....

  9. GM COULDN'T RESIST PUTTING IN A CLASSIC BLOCKY LOOKING T-BAR SHIFTER!!!!!

ALBEIT a very techy looking one.

The exterior still has not grown on me, ugliest of the GM trucks.

Interior is a very much needed update that is nice.

they purposely make the first version of the new body sort of ugly, it sets them up to make several mid cycle revisions, and can stretch the platform out FOREVER while having the chance to redesign the grill like 5 times.  they will finally get it right in about 2032.

Why is the Suburban's new dashboard now suddenly behind the design curve to this now.......makes no sense.  Suburban could have used this dash design with the big new screen.

You are right.  The Bolt is simply much too small to replace an Impala or Fusion.  A BEV Equinox would be a better replacement.

A BEV equinox would be a good seller but a blazer size one would be that much more useful.

     Hold my wine spritzer.

Add insult to injury, its @smk4565 car's interior.

Now, if we want to criticize GM for whatever reason, we should ALSO look at the German car with the SAME freakin' critical eye.

If we dont, well then, by golly...we arent really truthful to ourselves then.  And I dont really give a shyte who the phoque I offend!

That right there, that Mer-say-deez Benz. Its one cl -ass-y car, I must say.  Better than anything Ive ever owned, I reckon.

Honestly...I REALLY dont understand why we keep on shytting on GM's interiors?

    File:2007 Mercedes-Benz E 500 (W 211 MY08) sedan (2008-10-12).jpg - Wikimedia Commons

Is it BECAUSE Mercedes used two toned plastic greys and shinier fake wood on the more expensive models?

    From 2007 that Mer-SAY-deez.  An E 500 apparently.

    1998 Cadillac

One generation apart and the Mercedes looks EXACTLY like that shytty FWD Caddy.  Go ahead, zoom in on the steering wheel and dash.   Plastic and vinyl.. Its "luxury" because its got textured plastic?  LOL

Its the same category too...  Its not as if I took a C Class to compare it to.  A freakin E 500 at that.  MORE expensive...

Yet alls we here about is how shytty the STS' interior was in car magazines and Eurosnobby patrons of Eurotrash cars like our fellow Mercedes E Class owner resident.

1998-04 Cadillac Seville | Consumer Guide Auto

Nothing personal, buddy. (SMK)  But I find it hi-larry-us you dissing on American cars when your own 'luxury' car was a dime a dozen taxi cab with a rugged, but taxi cab worthy interior...

I was mainly just poking fun at the large plastic bezel on the malibu dash on the model where they give you the really smalL screen

speaking of those Mercedes like interiors chrysler did it too

This is the worst console in years, this is like 80s GM level bad.  Even worse is the option with only 1 screen, and you just get a big chuck of black plastic at the top.

My younger son tells me hiking permits for ST helens are restricted and go quickly, would love to hike it.

Actually, around here a bunch are respectfully driven. And since or own TC Bob loves the Cahrger in White, I think of him frequently when I see a Charger or Challenger.

turns out i have the RT-81, i had mistakenly wrote RT-82.  the RT-81 has the belt under the platter.
