  1. Never mind. I found the sales figures in the forums. Those numbers don't seem to correlate with the number of tundras I see on the road. They seem to be everywhere, but according to the numbers, the domestics are stilling crushing the tundra. GM and Ford need to finish the tundra off. Crush it completely. I think they have the ability to do it.
  2. Seeing so many of these tundras on the road has prompted me to try and find what the sales figures (for 2009 and so far in 2010) are for the tundra, especially compared to GMC/Chevrolet, Ford, and Dodge. For the life of me, I've looked all over the internet and can't find any figures.
  3. I swear, toyota makes the ugliest cars on the road.
  4. I read the following article on yahoo news. I think this is why people who are really interested in facts about the auto industry or those of us who actually care about what happens to the American automotive industry, put absolutely no stock in what these people say. But I bet every, prius driving, consumer reports reading, half wit, will curl up on the sofa with his latte and laptop and proudly soak up the latest "toyota kool-aid report". I think EVERYONE has heard, by now, that GM filed for bankruptcy, don't you think? We get it!!! GM filed for bankruptcy. What is so amazing to me, is that this little article about the most searched for cars of 2009, states that toyota was the most searched for "brand". Not one single toyota "model" made the top 10 most searced for ......but somehow toyota was the most searched for "brand"....yeah right..... Oh, did you guys hear....??? GM filed for bankruptcy......I guess a small CONGRATS is in order to General Motors for the CAMARO for being the most searched for "model"...especially since everybody is now so interested in smaller, more fuel efficent models. Another "amazing" thing is that, despite having the most most uninspired and ugly car line in the industry, people still even search for toyotas..... Most Popular Cars of 2009 The most searched for car brands and models on Yahoo! Autos. a Buzz Up! By Jeff Voth, CarNews Media The year 2009 will go down in history as a watershed moment for the automotive industry. American icons General Motors and Chrysler filed for bankruptcy protection, seizing as much taxpayer money as possible in their efforts to fend off impending doom. Both survived, but under much different circumstances than anticipated decades earlier. Going or almost gone from the GM’s portfolio were Hummer, Saturn, Pontiac and Saab along with a myriad of employees. Chrysler, sold to Italian automaker Fiat SpA, was now under the control of Canadian-born chief executive Sergio Marchionne and harboured an immediate need for new product. A summer launch of the Cash for Clunkers program would help both, but for how long? Ford was in amazingly good shape, declining offers for government aid in an effort to keep its counterparts from going under. Ford realized, without a healthy GM and Chrysler, it too would be out of business, not large enough on its own to keep afloat the supply network necessary to run an entire industry. New products were streaming full speed into the market, with Taurus, Fusion and Flex leading the way. Not surprisingly, Yahoo! Autos most searched for car brands in 2009 represent the strengths and sometimes failures experienced in the auto industry this past year. Toyota and Honda placed first and second on our list. Both companies shared the spotlight with successes in new products, the 2010 Toyota Prius, and continuing sales of mainstays such as the Honda Civic and Accord. Not all was roses, however, Toyota suffered from unexpected recalls while both companies encountered downward trends and the need to exit racing, specifically Formula 1, to conserve cash and develop new products faster. Ford ranked third, with Nissan fourth and BMW fifth. Nissan did feel the pinch of a tighter economy, but under the strong leadership of CEO Carlos Ghosn, it seemed well positioned to tread carefully while others succumbed to economic pressures. BMW continued their A-plan of designing new and exciting vehicles such as the 535i Gran Turismo, and for the most part, consumers responded. With additional product set to launch, both Nissan and BMW appear poised for additional success in 2010. When it came to ranking the most searched for individual models, it turns out that the enduring popularity of the iconic American muscle car, such as the Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang, is still tough to beat. In fact, five of the top 10 most searched cars are American made. However, smaller, fuel-efficient models are still top of mind with consumers as evidenced by the continued popularity of the Honda Civic, Mini Cooper and Smart ForTwo. 5. Man, I agree with you, but GM filed for bankruptcy. I mean, come on. Aren't you forgetting that? Yeah, yeah, toyota has a few million recalls on a part that caused the death and injury to people, but dude... GM filed for bankruptcy. (I am being sarcastic, not to you, but about this subject because it makes me want to throw up in my mouth) BTW, can I post this same topic over in the toyota section?

  7. For those of you who haven't driven a solstice, You HAVE got to get behind the wheel and try one for yourself. My mother-in-law just purcashed a GXP model with the turbo and OMG!! That car is amazing. IT's fast, it handles like a REAL sports car, it's incredibly great looking, and it's relatively inexpensive. What the hell? If GM kills that car when Pontiac goes, then I just don't get it. Chevy, Buick, hell even Cadillac could make SOMETHING outta that car. My aunt has a late model BMW Z4. I've compared them side by side and there isn't one reason one would choose the bimmer, other than they subjectively like bimmers better. Likewise, a very good friend of mine has a Mazda miata. I don't even see these as comparable cars. Side by side the Pontiac has so much more "presence" that you forget the mazda is even there. No comparison. GM, come on baby!!! Give the Solstice to someone who cares.....that car is a HIT! To kill it off seems like a horrible business decision.
  8. It is amazing to read articals like this and observe the obvious media bias in favor of toyota. They make excuses for toyota and then say that these screw ups, which have led to the death of some people, won't affect people's perception of the quality of toyota vehicles...?? Then, in the middle of the article, they have to state that Ford had the largest single recall back in 1996. It was for ignition switches. Nobody was killed or injured in the problem Ford had with those switches, so I think that it is yet another example of how the media folks love those foreign cars and try to talk people in to disliking American vehicles. Toyota to replace gas pedals on 4 million vehicles AP – The accelerator pedal, right, in a 2010 Toyota Camry is seen on the show room floor of Bobby Rahal Toyota … By KEN THOMAS, Associated Press Writer Ken Thomas, Associated Press Writer – Wed Nov 25, 5:29 pm ET WASHINGTON – Toyota plans to replace the gas pedals on 4 million vehicles in the United States because the pedals can get stuck in the floor mats and cause sudden acceleration, a flaw that led to the sixth-largest recall ever in the U.S. The repairs are a critical step to restoring the reputation of the world's biggest automaker, which suffered a blow when the recall was announced in September after years of making safe, reliable cars and trucks. In plans outlined Wednesday, dealers will offer to shorten the length of the gas pedals by three-fourths of an inch beginning in January as a stopgap measure while the company develops replacement pedals. New pedals will be installed by dealers on a rolling basis beginning in April, and some vehicles will get a brake override system as a precaution. The massive recall is the largest in the U.S. for Toyota Motor Corp. The Japanese automaker had earlier told owners to remove the driver's side floor mats to keep the gas pedal from becoming jammed. Popular vehicles such as the midsize Camry, the top-selling car in America, and the Prius, the best-selling gas-electric hybrid, are among those to be fixed. The recall also includes the luxury Lexus ES350, the vehicle involved a fiery fatal accident in California that focused public attention on the danger. Spokesman Irv Miller said Toyota is "very, very confident that we have addressed this issue." Toyota has no reason to believe that there are problems with the cars' electronic control systems, he said. An electronic-control malfunction also could cause unintended acceleration. Toyota officials said the floor mats are only sold in the U.S., and the recall would be limited to North America. Toyota would not say how much the repairs would cost, but analysts expected them to be extremely expensive because of the work involved and the manufacturing of new pedals. Toyota also said it would provide newly designed replacement floor mats. Toyota developed a sterling reliability reputation but faced challenges as it rapidly expanded. While recalls do not always indicate poor reliability, Toyota executives are concerned about large numbers of recalls and have pushed for improved quality controls. In a separate action, Toyota announced Tuesday the recall of 110,000 Tundra trucks from the 2000-03 model years to address excessive frame rust. "Their reputation has taken a hit because the actual quality has taken a hit," said Aaron Bragman, an automotive analyst for the consulting firm IHS Global Insight. "That's absolutely critical for Toyota to get that fixed because that's the central pillar that they've built their business on." Bartender Fitzroy Cunningham of Homestead, Pa., near Pittsburgh, owns a 1999 Lexus that's older than the recalled vehicles. He says he trusts the company and would buy another Lexus. "It's a reputable car company, and they aim for perfection, so (the recall) was surprising," Cunningham said. Scott Northcutt, a dealer in Enid, Okla., said he was confident that Toyota would do the recall properly. Only a few shoppers have mentioned the issue, and he does not think it cost him any sales. The recall involves 3.8 million vehicles, including the 2007-10 Camry, 2005-10 Avalon, 2004-09 Prius, 2005-10 Tacoma, 2007-10 Tundra, 2007-10 Lexus ES350 and 2006-10 Lexus IS250/350. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said 4.26 million vehicles would be covered, including new cars and trucks sold or manufactured since September. The nation's largest cumulative recall occurred in several increments during the past two years and involved 14 million Ford vehicles with faulty cruise-control switches that could cause fires. The largest single recall happened in 1996 involving 7.9 million Ford vehicles that needed new ignition switches. The Toyota recall came about after a high-speed crash in August involving a 2009 Lexus ES350 that killed a California Highway Patrol officer and three of his family members near San Diego. The Lexus accelerated to more than 120 mph, struck a sport utility vehicle, bounced off an embankment, rolled several times and burst into flames. In a frantic 911 call, a family member said the accelerator was stuck. Investigators determined that a rubber all-weather floor mat found in the wreckage was slightly longer than the mat that belonged in the vehicle, and it could have snared or covered the gas pedal. The government has attributed at least five deaths and two injuries to floor mat-related acceleration in the Toyota vehicles. Regulators have received reports of more than 100 other incidents. A Massachusetts safety consultant who has investigated the Toyota cases has found more than 2,000 incidents with 16 deaths and 243 injuries potentially tied to gas pedals. Toyota and the government said dealers will shorten the length of the accelerator pedal and in some cases remove foam beneath carpeting to increase space between the pedal and floor. Owners of the ES350, the Camry and the Avalon will get first notification because the vehicles are believed to be at the most risk. Toyota also plans to install a brake override system on the Camry, Avalon and Lexus ES350, IS350 and IS250 models. The system will ensure the vehicle will stop if the gas and brakes are applied simultaneously. Toyota plans to make the system standard on new Toyota and Lexus models by the end of 2010. The automaker and government regulators have been discussing a potential fix for several weeks. Toyota urged owners in September to remove driver's side floor mats, saying that unhooked mats or replacements stacked atop the originals could lead to stuck accelerators. John McEleney, a dealer in Clinton, Iowa, said the recall should not damage Toyota's reputation for quality. Toyotas are more reliable and quieter than ever, and that's how most people judge quality, he said. Recalls, he said, are inevitable when a manufacturer assembles thousands of parts to make a car or truck. "They're such complicated machines. I think there's always going to be issues that become concerns from a safety standpoint," he said. Tom Beck, a mechanic from Irwin, Pa., near Pittsburgh, said the recall and the possibility of sudden acceleration would not influence his decision to shop for a new Prius to replace a Honda Civic. "I'm a mechanic," he said. "If something were to happen, I would just turn the key," Beck said. For more information, owners can contact Toyota at 800-331-4331 or the NHTSA hot line at 888-327-4236
  9. Yeah, all the news agencies are always touting how great toyotas are and that they want us to believe they have "a whole bunch" of cash. Well, since toyota is such a bad ass company, I say let THEM pay for the entire thing. That shouldn't even phase such a stable, "cash-o-plenty" company.
  10. Well I did a search on the forums to see if it had been talked about before and didn't find anything. I'm a Chief Marshal and had never heard about this car. I got a call last week from someone associated with or with this company asking me if the vehicle was of interest to me. Since I had never heard of it, I had no idea. After looking at it and reading the specs, this might be a quality piece here, if they actually build it. It's a HUGE market that Ford is supposedly going to abandon with the demise of the Crown Vic. Tahoes and Chargers are good alternatives. I currently drive an Impala, which is a great car, but doesn't have the room needed to be an effective police vehicle.
  11. New purpose built police vehicle that looks pretty cool, has a diesel engine, and is AMERICAN!!! http://carbonmotors.com/
  12. Now thats funny. As bad as the titan is, I can't say i think it's the worst. The tundra IS the ugliest truck, inside and out, on the road today. toyota never had a good orginal idea of their own. the design of that truck is a good example of how cock-eyed those people are.
  13. So true brother....so true.
  14. GM and Ford (and Chrysler) need to be capitalizing on toyota's failures. Chevy has just started putting out commercials that directly compare/contrast their vehicles to toyotas and I like 'em. The friggin' nightly news isn't going to report that toyota has chinks (no pun intended) in it's armor. I don't know why the American companies wouldn't expose them through direct comparisons. Lord knows the japanese capitalize everytime American companies hit a rough patch.
  15. It's amazing to me that people would buy a tundra when there are such superior choices from GM, Ford, and Chrysler. They have definately sold the crap out of those tundras. I see them everywhere and it amazes me that people are so ignorant. We'll never see how bad they suck on the evening news. But we'll hear about GM and Chrysler's troubles everyday!! Nothing about this story is a surprise to me, at all.
