  1. Waymo is expanding its partnership with automakers. On the eve of the New York Auto Show, the company announced a new partnership with Jaguar Land Rover that will include rolling out a fleet of more than 20,000 self-driving, fully electric I-Pace SUVs over the course of the next two years. Waymo CEO John Krafcik describes the new addition to their fleet as being the "world’s first premium, electric, self-driving car." The I-Paces will be part of Waymo's upcoming self-driving transportation service that will launch later this year in Arizona with the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. Prototypes of the I-Pace with Waymo tech will launch towards the end of year. Waymo is planning on having a broader spectrum of vehicles in its autonomous fleet from small cars to semi trucks. "With the Jaguar I-PACE we have a world-beating car that’s captured the imagination of customers around the world. Our passion for further advancing smart mobility needs expert long-term partners. In joining forces with Waymo we are pioneering to push the boundaries of technology. Together we will deliver the self-driving Waymo Jaguar I-PACE with the grace, space and eco-pace that customers expect," said Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth. This announcement comes at a very awkward time for self-driving cars. Last week, a pedestrian was killed in a collision with an Uber self-driving vehicle in Arizona. Since then, a number of companies have suspended testing on public roads. Arizona has also has suspended Uber from conducting self-driving tests in the state. Today, the company dropped a shadowy teaser of the next-generation compact crossover. To our eyes, the overall shape looks somewhat familiar to the Jaguar F-Pace crossover. We're expecting some details from the FT-AC concept to appear on the new RAV4. Toyota will likely move the RAV4 onto their New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform which should improve handling. Since Toyota has been ignoring the trend to small turbocharged engines, we wouldn't be shocked if the current 2.5L four-cylinder sticks around. Expect a hybrid variant to be available as well.   4. The Honda Insight has always been a out-there vehicle. The first-generation model was a two-seat hybrid that offered a manual transmission. It would morph into a Toyota Prius clone for the second-generation. The third-generation model, making its debut this week at the New York Auto Show looks somewhat normal. We got our first peek at the Insight's design via a concept at the Detroit Auto Show back in January and not much has changed in the transition to the production model. There is the large front grille, LED headlights, and coupe-like roofline. Step inside and conventional look continues. The dash is lifted from Civic with an 8-inch touchscreen (and actual volume knob). Power will come from Honda’s third generation two-motor hybrid powertrain system. This is comprised of a 1.5L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder, a pair of electric motors, and a 60-cell Lithium-ion battery pack. Total output stands at 151 horsepower and 197 pound-feet of torque. Honda estimates the Insight will return 55 mpg in the city. In terms of safety, all Insights will come with a backup camera, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and traffic sign recognition. The EX and Touring will add Honda's LaneWatch system. The 2019 Honda Insight will be built at the company's Greensburg, Indiana plant - home to Civic and CR-V.   6. Volkswagen might have two concepts making their debut at the New York Auto Show later this week. We've already know one is the five-seat Atlas , but the second one could be a midsize truck.   8. Toyota isn't going to let the new 2019 RAV4 hog the spotlight at next week's New York Auto Show. The automaker will also be debuting the all-new 2019 Corolla Hatchback. We've like the Corolla iM for looking a fair bit more interesting than the Corolla sedan, and the new hatchback continues that. The overall look is more edgy and angular than the model it replaces. Up front is a massive lower grille and J-shaped headlights. Around back, a set of angular taillights and rounded tailgate reminds us of the previous-generation Mazda3. In overall dimensions, the Corolla Hatchback is 1.5-inches longer, 1.2-inches wider, and sits an inch lower than the iM. The interior is standard Toyota affair with nothing too flashy in terms of design. A new 8-inch display rises from the top of the center stack featuring an updated version of Toyota's Entune infotainment system. Like the new Avalon, the Corolla Hatchback will come with standard with Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is still nowhere to be seen.   10. Mercedes-Benz used the Geneva Motor Show to introduce an updated version of the C-Class sedan. Next week at the New York Auto Show, Mercedes will follow this up with the introduction of the 2019 C-Class coupe and cabriolet. The exterior is slightly re-worked with a new grille and LED head and taillights. C43 models feature more prominent diffuser and circular exhaust tips at the rear. Inside, all C-Class coupes and cabriolets get a larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen as standard. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is available as an option. The C 300's turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder sees a slight boost in horsepower from 241 to 255. On the other end, the C43's 3.0L twin-turbo V6 sees horsepower bumped from 362 to 385. Mercedes-AMG: More performance for the C 43 With a multitude of carefully coordinated measures the AMG developers have enhanced the vehicle dynamics even further. The AMG-enhanced 3.0-liter V6 engine now produces 385 hp (vs. 362 hp previously), an increase in 23 hp. The peak torque of 384 lb-ft is available in a wide engine speed range from 2,500 to 5,000 rpm. The new C 43 Coupe accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds (estimated), and the Cabriolet in 4.6 seconds (estimated). 4MATIC all-wheel drive: Traction even in difficult road conditions At market launch the C 300 is available with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive for improved traction and driving stability, especially in adverse road conditions. The 4MATIC has an active all-wheel torque distribution of 45 % to the front and 55 % to the rear. As ever, the combination of the ESP® driving dynamics control system with the 4ETS electronic traction system makes regular differential locks superfluous. This saves weight and noticeably improves handling safety as well as ride comfort. The all-wheel drive is standard equipment for the Mercedes-AMG C 43, and features rear-biased torque distribution with a front/rear axle split of 31 to 69 percent. More dynamic design and LED High Performance headlamps as standard The newly redesigned C-Class combines emotion with intelligence. The vehicle's appearance is defined in particular by its front and tail end and the design of the headlamps and taillamps. The front design exudes sportiness at first glance. Powerful styling elements such as the new bumper and the standard-fit diamond radiator grille lend the two-door C-Class models an individual character. The standard-fit LED High Performance headlamps have a new design that lends an especially distinctive appearance. An eye on the future: fully digital instrument cluster available as an option The standard multimedia display above the center console has a 10.25-inch screen. The C-Class also features a new optional, fully-digital instrument cluster with the three visually distinguishable styles "Classic," "Sport" and "Progressive," which also transform the look of the central display when equipped with this option. The C-Class has touch-sensitive controls in the steering wheel that respond to swiping motions like the screen of a smartphone. They enable the driver to control the functions of the instrument cluster and of the entire infotainment system without having to take their hands off the steering wheel. The operation of DISTRONIC and cruise control with controls directly on the steering wheel is another new feature. Future-oriented assistance systems on a par with the S-Class The new C-Class features the latest Mercedes-Benz driving assistance systems offering the driver cooperative support, and therefore provides a higher level of active safety than its predecessor. But it was quickly overshadowed by the likes of the Cadillac Escalade and others. Last Night in New York, Lincoln introduced an all-new Navigator that will hopefully put it and the Lincoln brand as a whole back in the spotlight. We're glad to see Lincoln keeping most of the design of the Navigator concept shown last year. That includes the large, intricate chrome grille; turbine-style wheels, side vents on the fenders, and a slightly rounded shape. Like its sister model, the Ford Expedition, the 2018 Navigator uses aluminum body panels to drop 200 pounds. The interior shares nothing with the Expedition.   22. The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has been one of the worst-kept secrets in the past few years. Thanks the numerous spy shots and rumors over the past couple of years, we have gotten a good idea of what's in store. It doesn't hurt that Jeep's CEO Mike Manley confirmed this last year. Before the New York Auto Show kicks off this week, Jeep has finally unveiled the details on what they call "The Most Powerful and Quickest SUV Ever". Let's get to the specifications first: Supercharged 6.2L V8 - 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque Upgraded Eight-Speed Automatic and all-wheel drive system to handle this immense power (Rumor had it that Jeep's engineers were considering decreasing the power due to worries of the AWD system not being able to cope with the power) Revised suspension with adjustable Bilstein shocks Larger Brembo Brakes (15.75-inch in the front, 13.78-inch for the back) 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds (not bad for a vehicle with a curb weight of 5,363 lbs) Top Speed: 180 mph Max Tow Rating: 7,200 lbs The Trackhawk's exterior stands out from the SRT model with a narrower front grille to make room for vents to help cool the engine. You'll also notice the lack of fog lights. These are ducts to help gulp up cool air for the vehicle. Other design changes include a set of 20-inch wheels and quad-tipped exhausts. Inside, there is a new instrument cluster with the tachometer placed in the middle. Jeep is keeping quiet on pricing, but we wouldn't be surprised if it starts above $70,000. Thanks the numerous spy shots and rumors over the past couple of years, we have gotten a good idea of what's in store. It doesn't hurt that Jeep's CEO Mike Manley confirmed this last year. Before the New York Auto Show kicks off this week, Jeep has finally unveiled the details on what they call "The Most Powerful and Quickest SUV Ever". Let's get to the specifications first: Supercharged 6.2L V8 - 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque Upgraded Eight-Speed Automatic and all-wheel drive system to handle this immense power (Rumor had it that Jeep's engineers were considering decreasing the power due to worries of the AWD system not being able to cope with the power) Revised suspension with adjustable Bilstein shocks Larger Brembo Brakes (15.75-inch in the front, 13.78-inch for the back) 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds (not bad for a vehicle with a curb weight of 5,363 lbs) Top Speed: 180 mph Max Tow Rating: 7,200 lbs The Trackhawk's exterior stands out from the SRT model with a narrower front grille to make room for vents to help cool the engine. You'll also notice the lack of fog lights. These are ducts to help gulp up cool air for the vehicle. Other design changes include a set of 20-inch wheels and quad-tipped exhausts. Inside, there is a new instrument cluster with the tachometer placed in the middle. Jeep is keeping quiet on pricing, but we wouldn't be surprised if it starts above $70,000.
