  1. The oldest model in Mazda's lineup is the seven-seat CX-9 crossover, but that will be changing in the near future. The first spy shots of the next-generation CX-9 have been caught while undergoing some testing. The photos show the CX-9 looking like a Mazda3 hatch that has been enlarged by 300 percent. Such details as the five-point grille, sculpted body, and flowing rear end are present. If the recent trend of Mazda's interiors is any indication, expect an impressive looking interior with seating up for seven people. In terms of power, rumor has it that the CX-9 will use a turbocharged SkyActiv four-cylinder. We could be seeing the next Mazda CX-9 debut later this year at the LA Auto Show. 2. It appears Ford's performance arm is taking a crack at building a high-performance Fusion. A fresh set of spy shots show off a Fusion mule with some interesting hardware. There is are larger brake discs, bigger wheels and tires, quad exhaust pipes, and some body changes hidden in camo. Automobile reports that the sportier Fusion will pack the 2.7L EcoBoost four-cylinder with 300 horsepower. A six-speed automatic will route all the power to all four wheels. These pictures come at an interesting time for Ford. As we've reported, the fate of the Ford Taurus is unknown for the U.S. By building a sporty Fusion, it gives Ford a sporty sedan to take the place of the Taurus SHO. Automobile does go on say that it's unknown whether this is an engineering exercise or a precursor to a production model. If it's the latter, we could see it as 2017 - the year where Ford will give the Fusion a refresh. Source: Automobile Pic Credit: William Maley

  4. With all the news surrounding Tesla fighters, it seems we have forgotten about the competitors to the Toyota Prius. But luckily Hyundai has been working on such a vehicle to take on the Prius. A fresh set of spy shots have come in of their Prius fighter this week. Now the shots show Hyundai taking some design ideas from the current Prius in terms of exterior styling. We also have the first shots of the interior which boasts a different gauge cluster complete with Eco/Power gauge. Autoblog says recent rumors have Hyundai's new hybrid being based on the next-generation Elantra and use a medium-sized lithium-polymer battery pack that could offer 38 miles of electric power. The gas engine will possibly be a 1.6L four-cylinder. But there is another twist to this story. A source tells Green Car Reports that Hyundai will offer a electric-only version of their Prius fighter sometime after the regular model is launched. A Hyundai spokesman declined to comment on the rumor. Source: Autoblog, Green Car Reports

  6. The fourth-generation Toyota Prius has made an early debut thanks to spy photographer who caught the vehicle uncovered at a photo shoot. There's a lot of the Mirai hydrogen vehicle in the new Prius' design. Such details include very busy front-end with split opening grille and forked headlights, to a similar side profile and blacked-out C-Pillar. The Prius will be keeping the liftback shape that it has been using since the seconf-generation model. We don't know any details on the next-generation Prius hybrid powertrain, but Green Car Reports says the next Prius will use Toyota's new global modular platform and possibly have all-wheel drive as an option. We'll get our first look at the next-generation Prius next month. Source: Green Car Reports

  8. It seems not a day goes by without someone saying that 'crossovers are the hot thing'. Yes, we are part of this group. Just consider the automakers who are currently selling a subcompact; Chevrolet Trax, Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade, Mazda CX-3, and Nissan Juke. There is one automaker missing from this list, Toyota. However, the Japanese automaker could be joining in the near future. A spy photographer caught a fully camouflaged Toyota subcompact crossover testing in the deserts of the American southwest. The overall shape seems to inspired from the C-HR concept shown at the Paris Motor show last year. Comparing the two, we can see some similarities such as a long hood and sloping roofline. The subcompact crossover will use a new modular platform and come with a turbocharged four-cylinder with a CVT. No word if a manual transmission will be on offer. One item still up in the air is whether or not this subcompact crossover will be sold as a Toyota or Scion in the U.S. Some believe it could be destined for Scion as some of the photos show a xB following the test mule. Another item that is not known at this time, when we will see the subcompact in production form. Source: Autoblog

  10. Honda has a big product offensive coming soon and one of those key products is the new Ridgeline. Unlike the old model which had some clever ideas, but never made it on the sales chart, Honda is making more of an effort to make the next Ridgeline more 'truck'. A new set of spy shots show us how more 'truck' the Ridgeline will become. The Ridgeline looks be adapting conventionally shaped crew cab rather than the oddly shaped one from the previous model. The front end looks to have same front end styling as the new Pilot. The Pilot will share its underpinnings with the Ridgeline as well, meaning it will get the 3.5L V6 and all-wheel drive system. A six-speed automatic will be standard transmission, but a nine-speed automatic is in the cards. The Ridgeline is expected to be shown sometime this year, with sales beginning sometime next year. 12. A few weeks after Lincoln revealed the Continental Concept at the New York Auto Show, spy photographers have caught a Continental test mule running around Dearborn. Lincoln has gone record saying that the production model of the Continental will look largely to the concept, and judging from the spy shots, it seems Lincoln is sticking with that. Comparing the spy shots to shots of the concept show both share similar proportions and a number of key design elements such as the large grille. Power is rumored to be the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 found in the concept. As for what will underpin the Continental, speculation has it being a stretched version of the CD4 platform - what underpins the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. It's unknown at this time whether the Continental will offer front and all-wheel drive, or just all-wheel drive. Source: Car & Driver View full article

  14. Car and Driver got their hands on new spy shots showing off an updated Ford Escape that is likely be introduced next year. The Escape looks to getting a new front end that is similar to Edge with a much larger grille and slimmer headlights. The back looks to be also getting some major changes, though Ford has it so well camouflaged we can't tell you much. Car and Driver goes onto say that the Escape will get the Sync3 infotainment system, and no major changes are expected for the powertrain. Source: Car and Driver View full article

  16. Well what do we have here? A new set of spy shots show off the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze without any camouflage - most likely due to the model being part of a photoshoot. The overall shape of the new Cruze is very striking and takes some ideas from the new Malibu and Volt with a rising beltline and sloping roof. Other details to take into consideration is a new design of the split grille, headlights, and flared out fenders. The new Cruze is expected to get the turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder that was introduced in the Malibu earlier this year. A diesel and plug-in hybrid are rumored to be available as well. The Cruze is expected to debut at the LA Auto Show in November. Source: Left Lane News

  18. With the new Ford F-150 selling and Nissan's next-generation Titan just around the corner, the pickup truck market is once again heating up. To get ready for the next onslaught, General Motors is readying a refresh of the full-size trucks. A spy photographer happen to get some shots of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado. The shots reveal that Chevrolet is planning some changes for the Silverado's front end with a new grille and headlights with LEDs like on the GMC Sierra. Also changing up front is a new hood design. GM is also looking to changing a few body panels to aluminum - the hood and front fenders being the likely ones. Around back, expect new taillights, along with some change to the bed - a new lighting setup or new storage. The inside appears to be unchanged. Mechanical changes are reported to be a new eight-speed automatic for the 5.3L V8 when the truck is launched later this year. 2017 will see a new ten-speed automatic that has been jointly developed with Ford. 20. From the not surprising file, a spy photographer has gotten the first indication of a Canyon Denali. Back in September, we reported that GMC's chief wants a Canyon Denali, but didn't give a possible timeline for when it will come out. Pictures show a prototype Canyon wearing the Denali's chrome mesh grille and chrome bumper behind some camouflage. Now the prototype doesn't feature a chrome rear bumper like other Denali models. But it doesn't mean that the production model will not feature one. No pictures of the prototype's interior, but we expect the usual Denali upgrades. Source: Autoblog View full article

  22. Its been a few months since we heard anything about the upcoming Cadillac XT5, the replacement for the SRX crossover. But the folks at Automobile Magazine got their hands on some new spy shots of the XT5 undergoing cold weather testing. As we have previously reported, the XT5 will utilize the upcoming C1XX - Chi platform. Judging from the new spy shots, it looks like the XT5 will keep the slanted grille, but it looks like it will get stacked LED lights. It also appears XT5's profile will become somewhat shorter, but grow in terms of interior space. Powertrains are expected to be the 2.0L turbo-four and 3.6L V6, while front and all-wheel drive will handle getting that power to the road. Its likely we'll see the XT5 debut sometime late in the year. Source: Automobile Magazine View full article

  24. A couple days back, we brought you spy shots of the Cadillac ATS-V without any camouflage. Now we have gotten word of a new set of spy shots for another Cadillac model in the pipeline. Autoblog got their hands on pictures of the next SRX, possibly wearing the XT5 nameplate. We can tell this mule is early in the development process due to all of camouflage on it. There are a few clues we can pull from the pictures such as the model apparently having grille similar to the ATS Coupe, and a sloping rear hatch that is being hidden by a box. The XT5 is expected to use a new scalable platform called C1XX (Chi for short). This new platform is expected to underpin a number of crossovers from the next GMC Acadia (which is rumored to shrink), to the next-generation Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse. Power will come from a turbocharged-four and optional V6. Both engines will be paired with a new nine-speed transmission. The XT5 is expected to debut either in late 2015 or 2016 as a 2017 model.
