PepsiCo has placed a pre-order for 100 of Tesla's recently released Semi-Truck. Wal-Mart, J.B. Hunt, and Sysco have also placed orders. Reuters tallies the total so far at 285 units. Tesla was initially asking for a $5,000 reservation fee, but has since increased that to $20,000. Pepsico plans on using the trucks for lighter snack items and fixed routes between distribution centers. An order of 100 trucks represents about 1% of Pepsi's 10,000 strong fleet. Over 260,000 conventional semi-trucks are produced each year. The Tesla Semi has a promised range of 500 miles with 80,000 lbs

More than 90 percent of Tesla Model S and X models that roll off the assembly line require fixes before they are shipped. This figure comes from nine former and current Tesla employees that spoke to Reuters this week citing data from the company's internal tracking system. At Tesla “so much goes into rework after the car is done ... that’s where their money is being spent,” said a former supervisor. Industry experts say it is critical for an automaker to get the quality right before initial production as repairs waste time and money. Other automakers such as Toyota only have an avera

Tesla is known for building quick vehicles, but they're also known for burning through a lot of cash. Bloomberg recently crunched some numbers on how fast Tesla goes through money and the amount is quite shocking. According to their data, Tesla has been burning through $8,000 per minute (about $480,000 in an hour) for the past 12 months. At this rate, Bloomberg predicts that Tesla could run out of money by next August. Tesla spending money like it is going out of style is not all that surprising. The automaker is trying to ramp up production of the Model 3 along with dealing with var

We never thought that we would ever see the day that a semi truck would get as much hype as an upcoming sports car or one of Tesla's new models. But that's the case with Tesla's new semi truck that debut last night. The design reminds us of GM's original 'dustbuster' vans with a clean shape and wide glass area. Tesla says the overall drag coefficient of their semi is 0.36, making it more aerodynamic than a Bugatti Chiron. The interior follows the look of the Model 3 with a minimalistic design and large screens providing key information and controls for various functions. The driver is posi

Tesla Unveils Tesla Semi Truck and Roadster 2.0 Tesla did a full unveiling of their Tesla Semi last night, showing what the Power of Electric Powertrains brings to the Big Rig World. With a center seating position for superior visibility, a Frunk on the truck and two passenger seats behind the driver, you have a Semi that can achieve 0 to 60 in 5 seconds for the Cab versus 15 seconds for a traditional Diesel cab. Under full load of 80,000 lbs, Tesla Semi can go 0 to 60 in 20 seconds compared to a Diesel Semi at almost 40 seconds. The Tesla Semi shows why electrification is the

Earlier this week, Tesla announced its quarterly production figures and the Model 3 is getting off to a slower start than expected. In a statement, Tesla said that it had delivered a total of 26,150 vehicles in the third quarter. Here is how it breaks down, Model S: 14,065 Units Model X: 11,865 Units Model 3: 220 Units Only 260 Model 3s were built in the third quarter. Tesla said the reason for the small production of Model 3s was due to "production bottlenecks." The company didn't go into detail as what the bottleneck is. This isn't a good start as Tesla promise

G. David Felt - Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.cheersandgears.com Xiaopeng Motors, Thanks Tesla for Open Source Patents It was only a matter of time and someone coughing up money before someone would use Tesla Open Patents to build a EV Competitor. Xiaopeng Motors is that company and thanks to Tesla, the dream of a young man is becoming reality. Musk has always said the focus is the drive to accelerate the change to EV Auto's. With this dream we now have the XPeng SUV EV. Henry Xia took this to hear in 2014 when once Tesla had announced the open source of

400 fired for Performance at Tesla or so they say. Seems Tesla fired approximately 400 employees from lowly sales associates to upper level executives all for performance. Yet with the bottleneck of production holding back the ability to actually produce and ship Tesla 3, it seems Tesla is more about laying off costs to stem the flow of cash till they can get the Tesla 3 shipping. Seems to me they will miss their production targets this year big time. Tesla Story on web

GM Exec calls Musk full of Crap! Seems Musk stating his auto's are level 5 capable of self driving is now being called full of crap by GM Exec that says without Lidar, there is no way Tesla system can be Level 5 full autonomous driving. It cannot see in the black of Night nor the difference of a snow covered road. Clearly many use cases that show Tesla to not be a Level 5 autonomous driving auto. Interesting read at Autoblog. https://www.autoblog.com/2017/10/16/gm-exec-calls-elon-musk-full-of-crap-autonomy-claims/

Between now and 2022, at least 50 electric vehicles will be launched. They'll be coming from the likes of Volkswagen, Diamler, and General Motors. Heck, even Dyson is getting into the game. But why this rush to get EVs on the road? It comes down to two things, Tesla and upcoming regulations. “Nobody doubts that the future will be electric. The car companies dragged their feet with electric. Now they are being dragged into it by Tesla and by regulations,” said Erich Joachimsthaler, founder and CEO of brand-strategy firm Vivaldi to Bloomberg. Tesla makes sense as they have created a c

If you happened to be perusing the Monterey, CA Craigslist this morning, you might have come across an interesting ad. Someone had posted an ad for a Tesla Model 3. The vehicle allegedly has about 2,000 miles on the odometer. Like many of Model 3s currently rolling off the production line, this is the long-range variant with a 310-mile range. Other features include a panoramic glass roof, upgraded sound system, and "Aero" wheels. The price? $150,000. Our favorite part of the ad is the last line; "THIS IS REAL." Red flag anyone? The ad has been taken down since various outlets st

Tesla delivers only 220 during the Quarter due to Bottlenecks Tesla says it is on track to deliver 100,000 S & X models by the end of the year and have Model 3 production up to 5000 units per month. Yet with that, they have also stated that due to bottlenecks on the assembly line, they are behind in building and delivering Tesla 3 to the public. I found the comment by another reader on the story of their quarterly report to be very spot on. To quote JSH who posted the following: "It seems that skipping basic steps in the tooling and manufacturing development process didn't p
