  1. Possibly the biggest news when Volvo unveiled their XC40 crossover back in September was the 'Care by Volvo' subscription service. For a flat-rate fee, you would get an XC40, insurance, maintenance, and the ability to get into another XC40 after 12 months. We now have more details about this service for the U.S. Pricing for the service begins at $600 per month for an XC40 Momentum AWD or $700 for an R-Design AWD (prices don't include tax and registration fees). The subscription includes an annual allowance of 15,000 miles covering tire and wheel damage, replacement of wear-and-tear items such as windshield wipers, all factory-scheduled maintenance, insurance provided by Liberty Mutual, and 24/7 customer care and concierge services. Customers of this service will also have the option of changing out their current XC40 into another one after 12 months. “Care by Volvo takes the guesswork out of car ownership, covering insurance, service, maintenance and basically everything except gas,” said Anders Gustafsson, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA in a statement. Customers can sign up for the program on Volvo's website and order their own XC40 right. They'll able to pickup their XC40 from their Volvo dealer without having to the deal with the various hassles next spring. Rumorpile: New Details On Alfa Romeo's SUV

Alfa Romeo is putting the finishing touches on their first SUV and will go into production at the end of the first half or start of the second half of 2016. Sales will begin sometime in the fall for Europe, with the U.S. getting it three months later. "All the preparation work" in connection with the launch of the second Alfa is done, said Sergio Marchionne on a conference call Thursday to discuss Fiat Chrysler’s second-quarter results. "Alfa’s plan is progressing as we told you it will go." Automotive News Europe reports the SUV will be around the size of an Audi Q5 and BMW X3. The new model doesn't have a name, but sources do say the model will use the Guilia platform. Source: Automotive News Europe (Subscription Required)

  5. More information is spilling out on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler. A member of the JL Wrangler Forums has gotten images from the FCA dealer system which now features the 2018 Wrangler along with a litany of options. One of those options is a full-time four-wheel-drive system called Selec-Trac. If history any indication, the Selec-Trac system will likely offer a low-range mode like on the 2008 to 2012 Liberty. Before you start grabbing the pitchforks and torches, Selec-Trac will only be available on the Sahara. We also have gotten an interesting tidbit on the 2.0L turbo-four. It will come with a "Belt Start Generator" system. We're guessing this will be used with a stop-start system to save fuel. Source: JL Wrangler Forums

Tesla Model 3 Details Are Revealed!

There really hasn't been much information about the Tesla Model 3 since CEO Elon Musk revealed the concept last March. Speculation and spy pictures revealing certain details were all we had. But last night at the automaker's Fremont, California production facility, Tesla finally spilled the beans on the Model 3 along with delivering the first 30 models. The Model 3 will begin at $35,000 and delivers a total range of 220 miles. Tesla doesn't list any power specs for the electric motor, but does mention it will hit 60 mph in 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph. Six exterior colors will be available - aside from black, the other color choices add $1,000 to the bottom line. 18-inch wheels are standard while 19-inch wheels are a $1,500 option. The interior is a bit barren with the dash not featuring any visible vents and a large 15-inch screen that functions as the instrument cluster and control center for the Model 3. The list of standard equipment is quite spartan, to say the least. Textile Upholstery FM/Streaming Audio System WiFi and LTE Connectivity Dual USB Ports Dual-Zone Climate Control Front/Rear Parking Sensors and Backup Camera You also will not get a key for your Model 3. Instead, Tesla uses a smartphone app that uses Bluetooth to connect the vehicle to unlock/lock and start the vehicle. There will also be a credit-card sized near-field-communication (NFC) card that will do the same function. All Model 3s will come with the capability for Autopilot with eight cameras, forward radar, and 12 ultrasonic sensors around the vehicle. Capability is the key word as you'll need to spend $5,000 if you want active cruise control, lane keep assist, lane change assist, and self-parking. At least the system does provide collision avoidance and automatic braking. There is a fair amount of options available for the Tesla Model 3. Long Range Battery for $9,000: Brings forth a larger battery (Tesla didn't reveal the size) that increases the range to 310 miles. Acceleration drops to 5.1 seconds for the run to 60 mph. Premium Package for $5,000: Adds leather upholstery, open pore wood trim, 12-way power seats with memory, power-adjustable steering wheel, premium audio system, center console, auto-dimming and power-folding side view mirrors, and rear USB ports. Full Self-Driving Capability for $3,000: Requires the Enhanced Autopilot package and will be available at a later date. Of course, the elephants in the room about the Model 3 is whether or not Tesla can meet their ambitious production goals and if they can avoid the numerous issues that have plagued both the Model S and X. Like everyone, we'll be watching with baited breath. Source: Tesla, InsideEVs

  13. A couple weeks back, Maserati revealed the Levante SUV after pictures were leaked. At the time, Maserati only gave out some small details about their new SUV. But this week at the Geneva Motor Show, Maserati has revealed all of the details on the Levante. The Levante uses the same platform that underpins both the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans. It also features the same engine lineup as both sedans. 3.0L Twin-Turbo V6: 350 or 430 Horsepower 3.0L Turbodiesel V6: 275 Horsepower All engines are hooked up to an eight-speed automatic and the Q4 all-wheel drive system. Stop/Start is standard on all of the engines. 0-60 mph times ranges from 5.2 seconds for the 430 horsepower 3.0L Twin Turbo V6 to 6.9 seconds for the diesel. The Levante's interior mimics the one found in the Ghibli and Quattroporte. New for the Levante is a control knob that can be used with the infotainment system. In terms of safety, the Levante comes with forward collision warning, automatic brake assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and a surround view camera. Maserati says the Levante will go on sale in Europe this spring, with other markets following thereafter. Source: Maserati Press Release is on Page 2 Maserati Levante debuts at the Geneva Motor Show Maserati's first SUV receives its eagerly-anticipated world unveiling at the Geneva International Motor Show Maserati has chosen the 86th Geneva International Motor Show to introduce the first SUV in its hundred-year history: the Levante. As with many Maseratis from the past, the new car's name is inspired by a wind: the Levante is a warm Mediterranean wind that can change from a light breeze to an irresistible natural force in an instant, mirroring the character of the first Maserati SUV. The Levante is the ideal complement to the Maserati range. Combined with the Quattroporte, Ghibli, GranTurismo and GranCabrio, the range now covers the entirety of the global luxury automotive market. Design, Exclusivity and Performance are the key characteristics for describing this new Maserati. Distinctively Italian in style, with breathtaking and iconic Maserati design features. The interior has been created with the finest materials, most exquisite to the touch, from optional premium leather to Ermenegildo Zegna silk, made in Trivero by the Zegna wool mill with a patented process. The spaciousness of the interior, enhanced by the panoramic electric sunroof, is combined with coupé-sleek external lines and the best aerodynamic efficiency in its category with a Cx coefficient of just 0.31. The new Maserati SUV is based on the Quattroporte and Ghibli architecture, further evolved and refined to meet the expectations of this market segment, in which Maserati will compete for the first time. The technology applied to every Levante is designed to offer outstanding performance both on- and off-road. Sophisticated suspension - double-wishbone on the front axle and multi-link on the rear, combined with electronically controlled damping, four corner air-springs providing 5 dynamic ride levels (plus one additional park-position), play an essential role in the car's handling. Furthermore, with the lowest centre of gravity in its class, perfectly balanced weight distribution (50-50) between front and rear, high levels of dynamic torsional and flexional stiffness, and a mechanical self-locking rear differential as standard, when driven on-road, the Levante delivers all the performance and emotion typical of every Maserati. The height-adjustment of the body position particularly useful in off-road driving guarantees ride comfort at the top of the category; when set to the minimum ground clearance, it enables the car to perform at its sporty best. The Levante is fitted with a 3 litre V6 Twin-Turbo petrol engine with either 350hp or 430hp, and a 275hp 3 litre V6 Turbo Diesel. All engines are combined with the “Q4” intelligent all-wheel drive system - which can transfer torque between the axles instantaneously when required - and an 8-speed automatic gearbox, with integrated Start&Stop System. In terms of performance, the Levante S (430hp) covers 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, has a top speed of 264 km/h, and provides combined NEDC-cycle consumption and emission figures of 10.9 l/100 km and 253g CO2/km respectively. The Levante (350hp) accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds and achieves a top speed of 251 km/h, with combined cycle consumption and emission figures of 10.7 l/100 km and 249g CO2/km respectively. The Diesel-powered Levante (275hp) covers 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 230 km/h, while its combined cycle consumption and emission figures are 7.2 l/100 km and 189g CO2/km respectively. The human-machine interface on board is based on an evolution of the Maserati Touch Control system, completely updated to offer even more functionality and convenience: the 8.4” high-resolution screen is capacitive, and can – in addition to the touch system - be operated using the new rotary control in the central tunnel. A wide range of sophisticated advanced driver assistance systems is available, including adaptive cruise control with automatic Start&Stop function, forward collision warning, automatic brake assist system and lane departure warning. Further options include blind spot alert, surround view camera and a powerlift tailgate. Two extended feature packs are available for the Levante, a Luxury-Package and a Sport-Pack; they each include a variety of distinctive stylistic and technical contents and enable customers to extensively personalise the exterior and interior of the Levante. The list of accessories, tailored to the vehicle's high quality and functionality standards, offers a wider array of options than ever before which includes cargo solutions, useful everyday items and a variety of roof carrier or trailer options. The Maserati Levante is built in a dedicated, completely refurbished and modernized area of the Mirafiori plant in Turin; the first cars have already come off the assembly line and the market launch is planned for this spring in Europe, to be followed by the rest of the world. The list price for the Swiss market, where the Levante has been launched, is 75.900 CHF.

View full article
  15. Since Ford made the announcement of the Focus RS and that it would be arriving in the U.S., we've been hungry for more details. Well Ford has dropped a few more bits as it announced that the Focus RS will make its North American debut at the New York Auto Show next week. There aren't really big differences between the North American-spec Focus RS to the Focus RS that will be sold in Europe. Power will come a turbocharged 2.3L four-cylinder producing at least 315 horsepower (expect more concrete performance numbers when we get closer to launch) and come paired with a six-speed manual and all-wheel drive combo. There will also be four different drive modes: Normal, Sport, Track, and Drift. As the name suggests, Drift will modify the torque distribution of the all-wheel drive to allow the vehicle to oversteer. Now for some bad news; While the Focus RS will appear at the New York Auto Show this year, you'll have to wait until next year to get your hands on one. 17. Jaguar has announced September 8th as the date they will reveal the production version of the 2016 XE compact sedan. Along with the date, the British automaker has dropped a few more hints for their new compact luxury sedan. The XE's suspension is comprised of a front suspension based on the design used in the F-Type, a new integral link rear suspension, and a electric power steering system which is said to deliver the "renowned Jaguar feel and response.” Jaguar also talked about the All Surface Progress Control (ASPC) which is said to enable smooth launches on slippery surfaces on rear-drive models. ASPC works like a low-speed cruise control system to get the vehicle moving. As for engines, the XE will be first model to debut Jaguar Land Rover's new Ingenium engine family. The Ingenium family is made up of an aluminum block that share the same bore, stroke, cylinder spacing, and 500-cc cylinder capacity for gasoline and diesel versions. All engines will come with turbochargers, direct high-pressure fuel injection, variable valve timing, and start-stop technology. Ingenium is also a modular design which means Jaguar Land will be able to scale up or down to create different displacements, and accommodate a range of powertrain layouts. Press Release is on Page 2 WORLD PREMIERE OF ALL-NEW JAGUAR XE ANNOUNCED FOR SEPTEMBER 8, 2014 The all-new XE will be a Compact Sport Sedan from Jaguar The XE will go on sale in 2015 in Europe, and 2016 in North America The launch will be held in London on September 8, 2014 Built on an all-new, aluminum-intensive architecture The XE features advanced suspension design which will offer thrilling performance, agile handling and precise, responsive steering, with outstanding levels of refinement (MAHWAH, NJ) – July 14, 2014 – Jaguar will unveil the latest addition to its sports sedan car family, the Jaguar XE, at a star-studded event in London on September 8th. The event will mark the unveiling of a true driver’s car; one that redefines the concept of the sports sedan. Jaguar will bring levels of innovation with its lightweight construction expertise and sophisticated chassis technology in addition to the new family of Ingenium engines – all designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK. Built around an all-new, aluminum-intensive architecture, the XE combines thrilling performance, agile handling and precise, responsive steering, with outstanding levels of refinement. Mike Cross, Chief Engineer of Vehicle Integrity, said, “Jaguar vehicles’ have always been renowned for a balance of precise handling and high-quality ride. The XE is the culmination of everything the company has learned over the years. The Integral Link rear suspension provides a combination of supple ride and crisp handling that is unmatched in this segment. We are on target to deliver a vehicle that dynamically outperforms our rivals.” Integral Link rear suspension The Integral Link rear suspension delivers major benefits over conventional multi-link designs. By providing lateral and longitudinal stiffness, the Integral Link delivers sharp response and handling while retaining a refined, luxurious ride. Many components of the Integral Link suspension are made from forged or hollow-cast aluminum. Front suspension Mounted to a subframe with cast aluminum suspension towers, the double wishbone of the front suspension on the XE delivers exceptional handling and road holding. The advanced design is based on the F-TYPE sports car. This design ensures the XE enjoys a similar level of agility and ‘connected’ steering feel. Like the rear suspension, components are made from cast and forged aluminum. New Electric Power Assisted Steering Jaguar is renowned for its steering feel and this will carry on with the XE. The XE becomes the first Jaguar vehicle to be equipped with the latest generation Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS). Electric Power Assisted Steering allows a much greater scope for tuning than hydraulic-based systems. Benefits include excellent steering feel, variable steering damping, ease of low-speed maneuvering and the ability to adapt to Jaguar Drive Control settings. EPAS also enables a range of Driver Aid features. All Surface Progress Control Even with the best traction control, rear-wheel drive cars can experience a sub-optimal start on very slippery surfaces. For that reason, Jaguar has developed All Surface Progress Control (ASPC). Developed from decades of Jaguar Land Rover experience in off-road traction systems, ASPC can electronically modulate traction with greater precision than a human driver can achieve. The system works like a low-speed cruise control to improve forward progress under slippery conditions.
