  1. RAM sees a Dakota-sized hole in their lineup and FCA CEO Mike Manley says he wants that hole filled fast. Part of the issue is that Ram currently does not have a platform to use for a mid-size pickup. The Jeep Gladiator, while considered a mid-size, has a different mission in life. It is positioned, and priced, as a premium product with an MSRP starting over $33,000 where competitors like the Ranger and Colorado start in the mid-$20k range. If you happen to an engineer in special projects division at Honda's Swindon plant in the U.K., you decide to make it into a pickup. Codenamed ‘Project P’, the Type R pickup made its debut at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) Test Day. To create this truck, the special projects division changed everything from the b-pillar to the back to install a bed with diamond-plate metal bed and a set of rollbars. The big rear wing is retained. The rest of the vehicle is pr

  5. Ever since Hyundai revealed the Santa Cruz concept back at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, there have been questions whether or not it would make it to production. The last we heard anything about the truck was last August where the home office finally gave the green light to go forward with the project. No time frame was given at the time. Speaking to Motor Trend, Hyundai Motor America's chief operating officer Brian Smith said Santa Cruz will likely arrive in 2020 or so. Smith also revealed that the model would be using the Tuscon's platform. “We love it, we talk about it a lot,” said

  7. One the signature traits of the Jeep Wrangler has to be the convertible top. Being able to lower or remove the top gives the Wrangler some flexibility that isn't seen on any other SUV. According to a source, the upcoming Wrangler pickup/Scrambler will have the option of a convertible top. The source doesn't go into detail about what the top will look like for the truck. Previous spy shots have hinted that the truck would come with a removable hard top as evidenced by a distinct front section similar to what you'll find on the current Wrangler hard top. We'll hopefully learn more deta

  9. Mercedes-Benz shocked everyone last fall with the announcement of the X-Class concepts and saying that a production version would be debuting sometime in 2017. That day was today as Mercedes unveiled the 2018 X-Class in Cape Town, South Africa. The production version doesn't stray too far from the concept with the trademark grille that is prominent on Mercedes' SUVs, large headlights, and wheels ranging in size from 17 to 19-inches. We should note that the X-Class is basically a Nissan Navara wearing a Mercedes-Benz dress. You can some of the Navara's design is present such as the design o

Dietmar Exler, Mercedes-Benz USA CEO tells Automotive News they are passing on bringing the X-Class here for the time being. At the moment, the market doesn't make sense for Mercedes to start selling it. That doesn't mean it will never come. Exler revealed the company will continue its analysis of the U.S. market along with keep track of how well the X-Class is doing in other markets. “It’s the biggest segment we’re not in. Speaking with CarAdvice, Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said there was a possibility of the two companies of sharing a platform for their next-generation midsize trucks - the Mitsubishi Triton and Nissan Navara. “[it’s] very possible that we are going to use the same platform, but we’re going to develop the cars differently because the customers are not the same,” said Ghosn. “But instead of two different platforms we can have them on the same platform but be completely different products

Mike Manley, global chief for Jeep told The Detroit News that the brand will introduce a replacement for the Compass and Patriot at the New York Auto Show in March. Manley said the replacement will use the name of one of the outgoing models. “We’ve got two very good names, two well-established names with Compass and Patriot that continue to perform very well. It will be one of those names — which one, we’re going to have to wait and see,” said Manley. Patriot has

  21. Honda's showing for the upcoming Detroit Auto Show will be the 2017 Ridgeline pickup and today, the automaker released a teaser shot. Our first thought when we saw the picture was: Yep, that's a truck. Ok, maybe we are being somewhat snarky here. But it looks likes Honda is going for more of a truck shape than the previous Ridgeline. "Ridgeline will deliver everything you'd expect in a Honda from incredible packaging and fuel-efficiency to top safety technologies and innovative, segment-first features," said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division.

Rumors and talk about moving Wrangler production out the factory have been floating around for that time. But Automotive News has learned that the Wrangler will be staying at Toledo; while the Cherokee moves to another plant. An official announcement will be made once FCA finishes up contract talks with the UAW. But this announcement also gives Jeep an interesting situation. The reason is because this particular model was the Pro-4X which features a number of off-road tweaks such as Rancho performance shocks, lower final drive ratio, electronic locking rear differential, and other items. Well the week I got the pickup, Mother Nature decided to drop half a foot in snow. Thank you Mother Nature I thought as I got into the truck. Driving the Titan Pro-4X through the snow was a very fun experience. With a 5.6
