Honda News: Rumorpile: Next Honda Civic Si Could Use A Detuned Version of Civic Type R's Engine

While everyone has been wiping the drool from their lips with the announcement of the Civic Type R coming the U.S. that will be arriving in 2017, there is still the Civic Si coming around the corner that should whet our appetites when it arrives sometime in 2016.

 

The folks at CivicX Forums got their hands on some intriguing info on Civic Si. According to a source, the Si will use a detuned version of the turbocharged 2.0L found in the Civic Type R. Power is expected to be around 220 to 230 horsepower. A six-speed manual will be the sole transmission choice. It is expected that the Si will share a number of parts with the Type R as well.

I had an Accord from the late 80's that I wish I kept a lot longer.  

 

Honda's recent styling seems to be gaining traction with me.

Are you sure, because the new Type R appears it will impress.  I am guessing about 320hp.  So a de-tuned version of that 2.0L should do nicely too.

I just think that this demographic needs extreme.

 

Another strong point with the Honda is excellent interior quality, fit  and finish.

I think the Focus RS falls a bit short in that department.

If this is one of the few segments that preserves a its tradition of a standard transmission, and if using bold and controversial design elements is something that attracts a lot of attention to the segment.

 

Then I'm all for it.

 

The thing is, like how conventional vehicles are starting to look like the production-near concept cars for years ago..

 

These kind of cars are starting to admirably convince you they are hot wheels cars. And they are hot wheels.

 

And whenever I think of hot wheels (from my own childhood)... I think of Doritos and Mountain Dew. Anyone with fond memories of any of those three products as a young professional adult today, is the buyer these manufacturers are targeting. I think.

GM just has to give us a 2.0t option for the Cruze, a performance suspension and skip too many cosmetic changes while keeping the price in check and I'd be happy. Keep the boy racers from wanting to race me. The new Civic does make the ILX seem even more pointless.
