BMW News: Rumorpile: BMW Considers A 2-Series Gran Coupe

Do you like the 2-Series coupe, but wished it came in a sedan? Well according to Autocar, BMW is planning to build one.

 

Why? The next-generation BMW 3-Series is expected to grow size and the German automaker believes there is space for another sedan (or should we say a four-door coupe). At the moment, BMW is debating whether the 2-Series Gran Coupe should follow in the footsteps of the 4 and 6-Series Gran Coupe (sedan-ish) or go with five-door liftback. Whatever design is chosen, expect the 2-Series Gran Coupe to be slightly longer than the coupe.

 

The engine lineup for the Gran Coupe is expected to be same as the coupe and convertible - a range of three and four-cylinder engines running on diesel or gas. There will also be an M2 version complete with the turbocharged 3.0L inline-six with 365 horsepower.

 

Autocar says the 2-Series Gran Coupe will debut in 2019.

WOW, BMW has Learned NOTHING from the Stupid 70's, 80's and 90's of GM, FORD and Chrsyler. 

 

Self destructing by thinking they have to grow each model in size. WRONG!!!!!!!!

 

Nothing wrong with keeping the 3 series the same size it was, after all they already have the 4, 5,6,7,& 8 series. So what the current 8 will grow and become the 9 series and eventually the 10?

 

Where did this stupidity that they have to grow a specific model name from subcompact to compact to mid size to large to Extra Large BS come from?

 

What STUPID Executives they have.

 

This seems to be an even bigger Monkey See, Monkey Do failure of the german auto companies.

 

Kinda along the same stupid ideas of exchanging VW for Skoda. So they going to pay all their VW dealers to remodel to be SKODA dealers and just use a different badge on the auto?

Well it's not VW that wants to rebadge itself here, it's some auto researcher that said that it would be a good exit strategy. IT is not VW.

 

Remember - these decisions are not just for the U.S. market. This might be a Euro-special and China special first.

 

But again... they are still considering it...however it may appear maddening

 

Besides, Cadillac did the same thing with the new CTS...they made it bigger, right? Or is that something different, and totally unequal.

They need a Z4 Gran Roadster, that could be like a 4 door roadster with a back seat.    And for sure they need a i3 Gran Electric Crossover Coupe M Performance.

 

I sort of wish Mercedes would phase out the CLS and call the 4-door coupe fad over, every other auto maker would drop this nonsense within 2 years.  All of them want to look like a CLS, but none do, even the current CLS doesn't have the looks of the original.

And let me remind you folk that the 2 Series and the M2 are probably modern BMW's purest form of what made BMW what they are known for...pure driving enjoyment with the whole Ultimate Driving Machine cliches. Hopefully they dont contaminate the DNA with this one...

BMW no longer has a clue what it wants to be, with the slight exception it wants to be; 'In a perfect world, there'd be a Mercedes BMW in every driveway'.
