1. Insurance will be about $150, I was hoping for a bit less but If everything works out I should be able to afford it. Mileage shouldn't be a problem because I'll probably cover it for part of the winter and use my Topaz as a winter beater.

  2. looking on the AutoTrader website I happened to come across a 2005 Cobalt SS SC lease takeover for only $234 per month. I was astonished as I didn't expect a car this nice for anything less than $350 per month, even when leased.

I am not worried about the requirement for 91+ octane because I found out that instead of creating a price war by selling cheaper gas, some stations sell 90, 92 and 94 for the prices of 87, 89 and 91 respectively.

My budget is pretty tight right now, so I will need a part-time job to pay for it. However, I do have quite a bit of free time.

I have one simple question for you guys: Should I go for it?

  3. From what I heard, the guy babied it and only traded it because he desperately needed a truck for his work. I've also heard he never had a problem with the car mechanically so hopefully that is a good sign.

The Series III should be nice because they get the bulletproof reliability of the 3800 without having to worry about intake manifold problems down the line.

  4. When the mechanic changed your rod bearings, could it be that he didn't modify/machine them to fit properly? Even a microscopic difference in bore compared to your rods can cause some pretty big damage in there.

  5. Isn't something from the late 90s a bit too young to be a beater?

Anyways, Dsuupr has proven that a Caprice can be a great beater (but I don't hink a could bring myself to abuse one, even if it would look like garbage), and the Topaz I purchased last winter (for only 300CAD) has started everyday, so as of now, I consider it to be a pretty solid beater.

I have more, but I am too lazy to think of/list them all.

  6. Flames lost again and the Ducks move on. The west is going to get its ass handed to it on a plate again this year, as they will again be the division with "the cinderella team" going to the finals.

Well, at leats i still have the Sens to cheer for, and it will be cool if Jersey and Carolina beat each other up so badly that it will eliminate their chances of going to the finals.

I felt this deserves its own thread, as the subject matter is slightly different than part one.

  7. I wish I could have heard about this earlier, as I am deeply saddened by it. Reading Chief's posts was always a bright spot in my day. His fallout is one of the most significant contributors as to why I do not frequent this site anymore. I have even been thinking about him in the last few days, so it came as quite a shock to me. He touched the lives of everyone who was a member while he posted and I'm sure the same goes for everyone he came into contact with on a regular basis.

REST IN PEACE CHIEFY, REST IN PEACE!

  8. Normally, I never cheer for the Oilers, although I actually wanted them to win this series for two reasons:

Calgary becomes best western team remaining

Get to see Calgary kick their ass next round

However, I do sympathize with you guys, as I have always liked the Red Wings, and guess where Mike Babcock was born.

 Hopefully I won't get flamed for saying this.

  9. Some that get on my nerves quite a bit:

-Bunnyhug (somewhat local name for hooded sweatshirt) - this really irritates me! When I came back here, I referred to a hooded sweatshirt as simply a sweatshirt or sweater. Absolutely no one I talked to called it by that name and most refer to it as a bunnyhug, which sounds incredibly childish to me. I have since come to a compromised to call it a hoodie mainly because some people around here actually use the term.

    -When people call themselves _-units.

-When like-minded people compliment something or someone as being "ghetto" or "gangsta."

Many more exist, but I prefer to keep my blood from boiling excessively.

  10. Cars grow with every generation, but that opens up new slots for smaller cars. It also leads to the death of large cars like the Caprice. In perhaps 15-20 years, the Impala/replacement could be dropped, leaving the Malibu/replacement, which replaced the compact Corsica about ten years ago, as the largest.
