  1. I almost fainted too when I read Consumer Reports review on this car. I have sat in one and it seems like a big step up from mine. Though my 2008 will have to do for now this could be a good replacement for it when that time comes. I do find it funny though that it weighs about 3800 pounds. That's as much as my 1985 Caprice and 1981 Bonneville. No longer can people say that those 2 cars are big heavy beasts since the new one is just as heavy.

  2. I got to drive a Sonic while Moms Aveo was getting some work done. Not really something for my taste but I couldn't fault somebody for wanting one. I think the 1.8 liter engine is great plenty for most people. I don't really like the idea of the 1.4 liter turbo. More to go wrong later. It was quiet, ride fairly well despite the large 17 inch tires. My biggest complaint with it is that the seats are a little narrow for somebody larger and the map pocket on the door and the other storage compartment in the transmission tunnel make leg space a little narrow. I also found that when you slowed down to about 25 miles an hour or so the transmission would downshift with a lurch. I thought the transmission could have shifted smoother though it was my first time driving a 6 speed automatic(I am used to driving 4 speed autos). Mileage in the time we had it was around 30 miles to the gallon which I though was real good for the performance it had. Overall not a bad car but it isn't my thing.

  3. I've had the carburetor rebuilt on my 1981 Bonneville. Mine started well but if you tried to drive too soon it would stall. The car tended to idle roughly also. Once the rebuild was done and some kinks were worked out it works much better. Surprisingly mine still has the original starter. The transmission was rebuilt 20,000 miles ago(It now has 123,000 on it). Other than maybe some new coolant hoses and antifreeze it wouldnt be afraid to take it on a road trip.

  4. I am so sorry to hear that you had to sell your cars. But if you can try to keep the 1979 then do it. Maybe in the future things will change that you can buy again. Until then get better. And you'll still get to see the 1981 from time to time. Again, the best of luck to you.

  5. I am forever doomed, too, as I want to add a number of vehicles to my family yet. ALMOST pulled the trigger on a sweet '89 Caprice Classic, but haven't ... at least ... not yet.

    *sighs*

I'm ALWAYS looking for cars for sale ... not sure why. But, I am. I don't think it is that much of a problem, though...LOL!

You did get the 1989 Caprice? My suggestion is to bite now. You dont see many here anymore. I am not going to part with mine for that very reason. Good luck my friend.

  6. Now that the 1980s cars like you and I have are very old they are going up in value and collectability. I like your Toronado. I almost bought a 1982 once. A friend had a nice 1981 but in his infinate wisdon didnt check his brake job and ended up destroying it in a bit of a crash.

  7. It hasnt been super hot but it has been humid quite a lot of the time. I despise heat more than anything in the whole world. I always make sure the A/C works in all the cars. We have gotten more rain than we have in a long time.

  8. IMHO neither of them hold a candle to a good W-Body... With Epsilon II coming that may change but as it stands the Malibu is so much narrower that there is much less hip and shoulder room... it feels kinda tight in comparison to say an Impala or Allure.

That is where I stand. Say what you will about the W-body but my Impala fits me like a comfortable pair of shoes. The Malibu doesnt quite do that for the same reason you just described. I also dont like the door openings as a whole with the Malibu. I have to make sure I dont hit my head on them where the Impala I can more or less just slide right in. I cant say how the Malibu drives since I have not driven one but I sure like how my Impala drives. Smooth, quiet easy controls(Though the brake can be a little touchy). The 3.5 liter in it is powerful enough for me and the fuel economy is excellent in my opinion. About 21-22 city and 30-31 highway. Huge trunk, back seat could be a little larger but nobody has complained.
