Funny, this car seems to have more personality than the other Holden import (GTO/Monaro)...but DAMN, it's one of the most hot cars to come from Pontiac in a long time (I think I can safely say that) if not all of GM (save the Solstice/Sky)
I WANT ONE !!!
-
It's not that much more than a 3.6 L G6. What do you want? A G8 priced lower than the G6? We have one of those already—it's called a Grand Prix.
But you realize the Grand Prix will eventually be phased out, right? The idea, I believe, is when the G8 moves to Canada to replace the GP with the G8.
Am I correct?

The Camaro is the only Zeta that will be on a shortened wheelbase...and not only do the pictures obviously show the shortened wheelbase, but it says so right in the article.
Ah, sorry about that...I'm at work and only looked at the pictures really fast.
I'm also glad to see we have literate readers on this site, Jesus Christ that lazy-ass tech/geek/net-lingo is annoying.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like it's the same thing as the Pontiac G8.
How sure are we that this is the Camaro and not possibly the Impala redo?
-
Looks like the perfect.... 'ain't' so perfect after all
Yet the import-biased media will spin it so Honda looks better!
-
Jah!
If a car that size is all you can afford, no need to make it look like a clown car. Why should style be reserved for more expensive cars?
The point of the post is that typically, cars designed for the American market are larger than most anywhere else in the world and we have a reputation (rather, stereotype) of only being able to drive big big cars in other countries.
BTW: where the hell did you get that Transformers thing? It's absolutely friggin hilarious and I wanna put it on my myspace page!
-
you're proclaiming the this based on a car that won't be on the streets for 16-19 months? a little naive.
True, but you gotta let a guy dream (but we'll see where the dust settles when both vehicles are on the road at the same time)
-
Even though any of these vehicles would be severely out of my price range, I enjoy what GM is hitting the streets with.
-
The G8 has an American powertrain no question there. As American as your Grand Prix or my Impala? Maybe not but they were made in Canada. That is not very American... No my Bonneville is as American as you can get so is you '69 Custom-S.
Initially, the G8 is pretty much going to be made in Australia by Holden (it is built by Holden as the Commodore I believe), just like the GTO...

Cue "newsy" music with a Walter Kronkite voice-over....
This just in, GM invests in money pit...that is all
Al Gore wins again, yet another blow to Ralph Nader

It seems the answer to this move would be a resounding and unapologetic: NO
It would be a stupid and unwise business move if GM were to do this.
As noted here , most completely agree with the author.
-
Looks good, but I think I would prefer a 2 door to a 4 door. Would that be in the cards for the G8?
Yes, rumor has it that it will be the new GTO!
-
Am i the only one that noticed leather stitching on the dash?
Competition, prepare to be by Pontiac!
-
in more ways than one!
Looks to me that Pontiac is finally earning the slogan "excitement division"
Was thinkin about a Saturn Aura/Chevrolet Malibu, now I can wholeheartedly say HELL NO to those and HELL YEAH to this car!
-
are the XE's and XR's for sale all ready? almost certain i saw one on the road today
Are you referring to the Vue or Aura XE & XR? If the Aura, yeah they have started hitting the dealerships (checked one out on Saturday, look for my impressions in the area for the Aura)
-
Excellent job all!!! I especially love the coupes, GM should take notice and BUILD IT because "if you build it, they will come"
-
Wow ... between this and the new Malibu, I really like GM's new direction on interiors. Atttractive, stylish, and from what I've heard the materials are much improved. Follow these designs with top notch fit and finish and GM may surprise alot of critics over the next year or so.
Agreed, the newest GM interiors are starting to scream sexy and also quality!
That front end on the CTS looks GNARLY!
-
On looks alone I wouldn't recommend it.
Agreed, sat in one at the last auto show to roll through ATL last year and hated it..."Toyota's answer to the H3"
Course, i'm not a huge (excuse the pun) SUV fan...i could not drive a Jeep with the exception of the Grand Cherokee, even then SUVs don't get my blood flowing so to speak....
I leased a 2001 GMC Jimmy "Sun n Sound" 2dr and by the end of the lease i was DONE with my then SUV fetish, plus the buy out on the end of the lease was about $4k more than what it appraised for

She's a beauty...can we get some hi-res versions for my desktop?
That's somethin C&G could do, desktop wallpapers...
EDIT: I noticed some useable resolutions for desktop, but would still like some higher res! :-P
-
Oh, cool. They offer a version for people with taste and without. I'm so glad the hot engine and other features are available without the totally stoopid wing. I... actually like the front, but the rear end, with that hideous wing and those unattractive strakes in the bumper... SUCKS.
Agreed, the wing is deplorable and whatever nutcase in the think-tanks at GM thought that up should either be shot or locked up in Arkham Asylum with the Joker (maybe he'd appreciate the sight!)
-
Never really cared for this thing that much, it's a decent looking SUV (especially compared to the HORRID Aztek).
I'll agree with several other posts, the Equinox looks much better IMO...
-
On second thought:
Yeah, this thing looks cool as hell and definitely echoes a next gen Camaro or even the Cadillac Sixteen concept.
-
There's been lots of noise about the car happening sooner than announced, but no confirmation.
According to an article on TCC from Rick Wagoner
The all-new Camaro will begin with early production versions at the end of 2008 and will go on sale in the first quarter of 2009.
With an article saying the Vert to hit showrooms in late 2009, that's still pretty soon if you ask me given that the original concept debuted at NAIAS last year.

This car looks flat out GNARLY, it will do this to the competition:
And if you haven't checked out Northie's colors, you're missing out! AMAZING WORK!

Agreed, the orange is hideous...I don't know why alot of us Americans have been down on the Holden styling, it's been highly successful in Australia for a number of years hasn't it? Now the GTO I could understand about, because that was an awesome muscle car back in the late 60s and early 70s, it had a reputation to live up to. This G8, on the otherhand, it's a brand new model (for the US) so it's got an opportunity to develop a rep of its own. I would imagine once it gets to N.A. manufacturing that it would be more cost-effective for GM and hopefully they'd pass a little bit of those savings down to the consumer or at least its employees (GMS). Hell, GM is apparently GIVING away cars for perfect attendance to their auto workers!
