For the most part, there isn't that much info on the next gen out yet. The Saturn version is expected to be built in mexico for the next gen, and we should be getting a sedan version. I want to say the next gen probably won't differ all that much mechanically from the current, but it's really hard to say that for sure, and especially when talking specifically about the Saturn version. GM should make parts readily available for the time frame you're looking at, but it's hard to say how much aftermarket & used availability there will be. You may be stuck paying dealer prices quite often. That may not bother you, though.
Thanks for the response "Purdue Guy"

A question for you guys,
I'm looking at buying an Astra and would plan on keeping it 7-10 years. Do you think parts availability would be o.k? Will there be non-oem parts also? Anyone know how different the next-gen Astra will be. I obviously don't want to get taken to the cleaners with very expensive part costs years from know. If the next-gen is similar, then there shouldn't be a problem long term.
thanks

I like DEFELT' S idea of a two mode hybrid..., green plus power ala lexus400h.
The hybrid would automatically be good press for GM, WHERE as now as soon as A 6.2L Z28 is released there will be bad press about another "gas guzzler from GM".
They could always sneak a 6.2l type version later, well after the"good press coverage".

Bring them now, not later.
Glad to read they are 32 inches longer than the silly looking "smart".
Make some types a mild hybrid and crush the competition.
but they have to look mean/aggressive/stylish.

Thx for the reply!
I'll take a look at the 9-1 or anything they do that is Astra-sized. For me it will be about getting something bigger than the MINI but keeping the hatchback versatility.
yup the hatchback versatility, I like the Astra alot, make it kind of Saab-ie like and it could be a blast to drive , yet fuel efficient as well. Hopefully it will be flex fuel as well.
The mini clubman is sort of odd yet appealing, but I'll wait for the 9-1.

Just saw this one yesterday at NAIAS, very nicely put together concept. I'll have pics later tonight. Irronically enough, A buddy of mine was one of the main designers/sculpters on this project for the last 2 years. I knew he was working on a Hummer concept but he never gave me any details.
Does your friend know if this concept is a definite reality? And what might be changed from concept to production.
To me this vehicle is pure fun, and that s what driving should be.
thanks

Although not just, Hummer has become the poster child for light duty vehicles and global warming. A vehicle like this with e85 and or diesel option can only help the whole brand.
Also the styling is great.

Well I know they has some issues during the 03-04 years but I thought most of them had been fixed by now.
What issues are you referring to?
we have 2 saab9-3's, 2004 and 2005- to date there are no sqeaking issues. Other than a bad speaker and a piece of trim loose, between the two cars, no other issues.
enjoy,

When they build it, I will buy, as will many others.
Hopefully there will be some variations (coupe/wagon).
I'd much rather pay a premium to GM then to any more gasoline companies.

we have 2 saab 9-3's. 2004 and 2005.
2003 was the first year, just do a little research on the first year, and make sure the "issues" were looked after. If it has a little warranty left , great.
I think there were some noise issues with the radio/speakers and the door, all are fixable.
We've had no real issues with the ones we have(had one speaker replaced).

Anything is possible.
After all Chrysler does have mini-vans that sell, and are not as expensive as Honda/Toyota
And RWD cars on the road now..the rest of Chrysler autos could be chopped.
who knows?

I've seen the BLS in Spain, on the road and in a parking lot. I thought it looked great. Too bad it isn t here......

we have a saab 9-3 2004 , owned 25 months
no real issues, great car

The USA produces 40 percent of their oil requirements domestically now(this includes the gulf drilling).
So there is no reason not to be self sufficient.
A strong government action plan is needed....now to get this up and running.

So it's FWD , IT is an entry level Cadillac. Fwd has a place, especially in snowy climes.
Cadillac needs to SELL cars, volume Bls sales are better than "occasional" Xlr sales.
Imagine a Bls that is turbo diesel, not a gas gulping bad image machine. Might steal some sales from people that would not normally consider a Cadillac..
And... if they were to bring something like this and (option)add AWD call it BXS, to distingish it from the others.
BTW... i'm ok with Escalades(tahoes, expeds), love em'.....but many others aren't

She's wrong. They buy the cheapest domestics against well-equipped imports. See the not-so-old comaprison pitting a loaded Avalon XLS against a LeSabre Custom and Bonneville SE where they bitched about the floaty rides of the two GMs ignoring the optional touring/sport packages available with BOTH those cars. Oh, and also the fact that one could get a LeSabre Limited or Bonneville SLE for the price of that XLS. That wasn't mentioned once.
--that is the reason I cancelled my subscription to consumer reports 4 years ago, and the rag is still the same today.

Wow !! , in the video it looks incredible...
thanks

All I really hope is this thing will be FWD. Putting RWD on a Saab is just like putting RWD on a Toronado.
yes as a Saab owner, I like my fwd , however awd would be a good option .
-
yes please ... love it !!

Maybe he was nervous in front of the camera?
I didn t see the show, however at www.autoweek.com on Jan19 he is quoted as saying that Saab will likely get a cross-over vehicle(with aggressive design and performance) in the near future. He did not specify platform or build country.
