  1. I test drove the Jetta and sure the new interior plastics were not as nice as the last gen but the design is still very pleasing and modern. I found it better quality than the much more expensive Prius, who's interior was shockingly hollow in places. (I do find the Prius interior design modern as well though).

I think it was at least on par with the plastics in the Civic, and CRZ (although I loved the chrome in the CRZ) and better than the TC but maybe not as nice as the soft touch materials in the Cruz, Elantra, or Kizashi. In the 18k to 23k dollar range the Jetta was a solid choice for my money. I really considered it.

Lexus needs to realize that you have two types of customers.

Those that can afford 50-100K auto's and will want the Hybrid Performance. That is a name plate I believe all auto makers should use.

Then you have those that stretch to get into the 30-50K auto's and having a luxury name plate is desired, but they still count their pennies and these people are wanting the Hybrid = MPG. So it makes sense to have a 200h that is all about MPG and then have a 300H Performance that is all about the driving machine.

I hope cadillac will kep this in mind when they bring out the ELR, it would be good to have an ELR base model with good, solid MPG and then move up to a ELR Performance Edition. :D

Perhaps a 3rd customer, that would spend $50-100k on a high lux, high mpg hybrid. You know, rich eco enthusiasts, like half of hollywood.Tesla Model S is sold out til the end of 2013.

    There ya go.

Or the Fisker Karma if you don't mind your garage maybe burning down.

  3. I think the problem was Suzuki needed a more powerful engine for the Kizashi after GM divested and they were disappointed by VW's electric vehicle technology offerings. Then Suzuki asked Fiat for engines and VW accused them of breaking the deal. Anyway it's divorceville for sure.

I test drove the Kizashi and really liked it actually. What it lacked in power it made up for in handling. I think Suzuki struggles in North America but I believe they were very successful worldwide with good growth in the developing market in India as a joint venture with Maruti and are the 4th largest auto manufacturer in their home market of Japan.

  4. I think as a first entry back into the American market it did great. Since it is small and relatively inexpensive it set the expectation low and delivered. I haven't read any disparaging reviews at least. If a push is to come from fiat to expand a line of cars in America I feel they are in a good position to do so. They have done a sold job of getting Chrysler out of crisis and are improving on every level. The dodge dart seems like it will be a hit and the opens up an avenue even for Alfa to come back since it's built on the Juliana. I hear Maserati is expanding. With all the dealerships who lost brands over the past few years there is definitely room for Italian cars in America right now. Also good timing on the heels of the Jersey shore guido cultural renaissance.

  5. I like that they have a novel approach to sales. The overlap in markets with kia is problematic. They should stagger the pricing little more. VW got themselves in some trouble with that. Personally I hate the new Prius sub brand. The V and C models will only dilute and hurt the Prius name. They should have branded the C as a Scion.
