  1.

Got to say, you keep busy.

    Ha ... I do try. ;)

As for The Gnome-Mobile ... sweet!  Any chance you'd be willing to let me feature it on my website?  When will you be in MI this summer ... road tripping or flying into MI?

Oh sure, I will snap some pictures at the Gilmore car museum and share.  You can do what you want with them. If your lucky, it will be my daughter who takes the photo's, she has a better eye and talent in this area.  Maybe even get some film shots in, they always look better.  The above picture was just in the public domain. At least , I think it was when i searched for it under usage rights.  I am gonna look for that old picture of the Gnome-Mobile, hope to find it!  Sure I will eventually.

Anyways, kids and I spending the summer up in Michigan helping out my parents and catching up with friends and other relatives.  Taking our cats, gonna be one heck of a road trip all right.  But done it many times before.  My husband was just afraid we were gonna ask to use his car cause its bigger!  He is not so keen on taking down some of those old country dirt roads!  Plus when he sees all the new dents and bang ups the kids did on the G6, he gonna have a minor break down.

  2. Got to say, you keep busy.  I got something to add, when I track it down, for you.  It is the old The Gnome-Mobile used in the Disney movie. My dad painted it, a couple years after they made the movie. Right before, it went into a museum, which I thought it had gone on to Detroit to the Henry Ford Museum, but just read an article it is a hop skip and a jump away from where I will be this summer, at the Hickory Corners, Gilmore Musuem.  So yeah, got a picture of me and my sisters standing in front of it, as kids, somewhere.

We thought, it was pretty cool, when the movie came to town later.  Went to see it with some neighborhood kids, waited in the theater to watch the credits roll at the end looking our dad's name to be credited for painting it!  Ha ha, foolish of us.  Not only would this not be in the credits, but like I said, he had painted it after the movie made.  Oh well, we all still screamed out, and painted by OUR DAD!

  3. He's a happy hoarder, has 4 cars for sale this year: 3 Pontiacs (62, 66, 67) & a Chevy (77) along with a few metric tons of junk.

Will bike around the swap meet tomm, I'm sure -as usual- there will be nothing for my B-59 or '40, but that's OK. I'm there for the atmosphere. ;)

Well, if your going to a hoarder, what better then some Pontiac's, a Chevy, and a few metric tons of junk!  My father-law-law was big into collecting and reselling "junk", as some might call it.  lol  But, he made a good living in his later years doing this.  Hope your buddy sells it all.  Nothing like coming back with an empty trailer!

Never know, you might find something!

True that, it will be a good time, or shall I say, hope you are having, or had a good time!

  4. Fisher Body Plant 21 back in the news.  From the Detroit Free Press !6 APR 2015, a continuation from an article going back to 14 OCT 2014, Dimitri Hegemann, described as cultural activist, community organizer and a German nightclub owner (specifically, what was known as East Germany) has had his eye on Plant 21 for awhile.

Whether it pans out, is anyone's guess.  I would say, he sounds like a good candidate to get it done.  When the walls went down in Germany, he made his move from (West) Germany into Berlin.  I believe, he has the insight, fortitude, and experience to revitalize this abandoned building.  I hope his concept moves from speculation into a purchase in the near futures.

Got to say, I was in Germany for a year, right about the time the walls came down.  When I crossed over into East Germany, the experience is one that I will never forget.  There was an abundance of old buildings crumbling.  It was like I had stepped into another dimension, where time stood still.

  5. Oh, this might be my favorite thread, yet.  Sad thread, but favorite thread.  This is what resonates with me about cars the most.  The people that built them in all these old plants and we keep seeing them keep get torn down.

My first love is actually genealogy, Got  a lot of family lines that go through the car industry in Detroit.  Spent a lot of time looking at the old plans for plants and then seeing them go one by one - not good.  Got a little collection myself of images saved in a PowerPoint for my future generations.  I want them to be able to see what once was and where their roots came from, so enjoyed seeing the N.J area.  Look forward to more.

  6. I just got back from the E-town tonight, helping my buddy tow a trailer there. Spring swap start tomm.

Oh, cool.  Just checked out it out.  Your buddy gonna show a car or have merchandise to sell?  Looks like a good time.  You gonna hang out there this week-end?  Well, if you do, have a good time!

Like the gold paint, they got going on here.

  7. Well, we have a G6 and this is a good heads up for me to check back in with the dealership.  Last time, went in for recall repairs, they did not have a part in to fix one of the recalls.  Don't even think they had figured out how to fix the problem.

So, GM glad you are so happy the judge ruled in your favor for suits before July 2009. Shame, shame.  How about you get on the ball and figure out issues in a more timely manner in the future!

Nice replacement on the way. BOLT baby BOLT! :P

Great deal if you want an EV now, but the BOLT will be GM's available in every state ride.

Oh, missed this.  Did not not know about the BOLT or I forgot, either way.  Good to hear, but checked on the price, maybe a good deal, but does it compare to the Spark?

Wondering, how long is it going to take for the Spark to be available in other states?  Not understanding why their limiting it to certain states, is it some kind of kick back?

The Spark EV is what we call a "Compliance Car".  California and Oregon (don't know about Maryland, but possibly) have passed laws that state that a certain number of each manufacturers vehicles must be zero emissions. Thus, cars like the Spark EV and Honda Fit EV are built just to be "in compliance"  Chevy likely loses a bunch of money on each Spark EV, so their goal is to sell just enough of them to meet the law's requirements and not a single one more than that.

The Chevy Bolt, while still just a concept, is heading to production and will be a vehicle sold globally.

Thanks for the info.on Compliance Cars.  Now, it makes sense.  It was almost like too good to be true with that price.

I will keep my eye out, or more specifically keep reading the news feeds here, to see the progress on the EV market.

  9. I enjoy open wheel racing also, esp. the Indy Car Series..been to the Indy 500 a few times and the 3 California races (Long Beach, Sonoma, and Fontana) in recent years...going to the Long Beach Grand Prix next weekend..

Oh, when you get back, you should fill us all in on your experience.  Nothing like being there first hand.  Sure a lot of us would like to hear your feedback!

    Have a great time!

  10. I had a '66 Impala convertible for a short time.  Spent very little for it.  It was a BONDO QUEEN.  Sold it to a poor sap.

Cool. Huh, bondo queen. Funny.  Sure, the poor sap, still loved the 66 Impala convertible!  My first pinto was also a bondo queen.

My dad had a patent on something  similar back in the 70s.  Did not go far with this venture. Yeah, he started up a lot of different shops over the years.  Forgot about this one, until you mentioned the wold bondo.

  11. Oh, thanks for the link on the Cuda. The anticipation of that power built as he backed it up each time to get ready to take off was exhilarating, to say the least. Talk about some power in a engine. Never been to a drag race, one of my uncles is a serious hot rod fan, he swears, I need to go to at least one event in my lifetime!

  12. Nice replacement on the way. BOLT baby BOLT! :P

I was talking about this specific record.  I went to look to see ,if anyone had uploaded a copy of it.  Well, nobody had, so I entertained myself listening to some others.  As I am sure, you are aware, the sounds of engines recorded with older recording equipments sounds different using today's technology.
