  1. Crazy/senile/whatever, my point is that if she seems like she is NOT a credible source of information, but rather someone who goes on and on about something, random people would probably be less likely to go out and buy GM after talking to her.

With all due respect to ocnblu, I know if I came across someone championing the GMT-355s with what I know about them, I'd seriously question their taste level and knowledge of vehicles on the market as a whole.

You'd seriously allow your purchasing decisions to be influenced by an encounter with an old lady in a gas station?

    Really?

  2. I wouldn't call her a champion...if she's as crazy in person as she sounds on here, then wouldn't she likely come off as a fool to anyone thinking about cars? I think it would hurt GM sales if anything.

Crazy? Sounds to me like she's a sweet old lady who's become a little senile and needs someone to talk to. Nothing wrong with that.

  3. >>"but rather questioning that liberal radio has failed for the reason you gave."<<

Ahh. Like I said- it was another's theory, not mine (at this point, I disremember who said it).

Not sure of the validity, but beyond ratings/sales, it is true that it's pretty difficult to give disapproving feedback to your TV or newspaper...

When Air America started up, it had some names, Al Franken among them, and ratings initially were not great but decent, but they quickly nosedived to a best of the low single digits. 2 years later the network filed for bankruptcy. Of course- there could well be a host of reasons behind that, and it takes time for ANY new format to grow, but given the 'support' of the other venues, plus the groundswell of hatred for Bush, it's surprising to me it failed so quickly.

My problem with that argument is that while I do think that plenty of conservative arguments can hold up to logical scrutiny, the ones used on conservative talk radio are not among them.

I tend to believe that it has more to do with the fact that America is generally a pretty conservative, or at least libertarian, country. And if you'll look at the successful talk radio programs, they tend to appeal to the lowest common denominator. And a conservative radio show is going to appeal more to the conservative "common sensibilities" of the average American than their liberal counterparts.

  4. Bourne is a rip of Bond. What you are describing is classic Bond. International locations, fist fights. Don't know exactly what you mean by the camera work.

I see the Bourne Comparison a lot more in Quantum of Solace than Casino Royale. Casino Royale had great balance with Bond's classic swagger and the more Bourne-esque fight choreography. Quantum of Solace had Bond working much more as a vigilante, which made it feel closer to a Bourne film. I figured out a good drinking game for QoS: Every time James Bond should have died of internal hemmhorraging, take a drink. I felt like Daniel Craig spent half the movie either jumping from a high perch and slamming into the ground, or recovering from said jumps.

On a side note, Craig's Bond and Judy Dench's M have great chemistry together. I've loved their relationship in the last two movies, which really sets Craig's Bond apart from his predecessors.

  5. QUOTE (YellowJacket894 @ Mar 7 2009, 11:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker? I actually forgot how horrible Josh's taste in music was; is he positive he lives in Michigan and not Mississippi?

Regional bias can be a dangerous thing when musical preference is concerned. I've noticed it a lot with Canadians. Often they seem like smart, charming people with generally good taste. Then I find out they really like Nickelback, and I can never look at them the same way again.

Edited to avoid confusion: In no way am I implying that Josh is a smart, charming person who has good taste in anything. Just saying that he seems to be exhibiting regional bias in his musical preference.
  6. +1 *

    add: Key Lime pie *

Dead last on my list: pecan pie :puke:

That reminds me, I have a chocolate pecan pie in the kitchen. MMMMMM.

  7. While we're comparing metal bands, I have a question that's been bugging me for a while. Is Anthrax really worthy of being grouped as one of the "big four" thrash bands along with Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer? I'm asking this because haven't heard much of them, and I know they were popular in the 80s, but they don't seem to have the towering reputation that the other three have (or at least had in their primes.)

  8. I like Metallica, I like Megadeth, and I get tired of hearing debates over who's better, and who's the bigger jerk. James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and Dave Mustaine are all Type A, control freak asshole types, and a band with three people with that personality type usually won't survive. Mustaine was the odd man out, both bands went on to make some kickass thrash, and that's all I really care about. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go listen to some Slayer.

  9. I am certainly an advocate of the environment and I think we should do as much as we can to lessen our impact on this planet. However, creating PANIC and giving up freedom and creating a WHOLE lot of other sociocultural issues that will cause people distress is just not acceptable IMO.

I disagree with your downplaying of global climate change, but I have to agree with you that the American way of dealing with global warming is a lot better at creating sociocultural problems than it is at actually doing anything to lessen our impact on the environment. Especially when you consider the environmental impact of countries whose pollution we have less control over, like India, China, and Russia.

  10. >>"...could you provide an argument for how it is... true?"<<

How what is true- that a form of the 'fairness doctrine' is coming?

Because the clamor for it's return (discontinued circa '82) is gaining in volume.

Why are liberal voices rising? Why are they concerned? - after all- they currently control politics.

Because they want to continue to control politics and they're in the position to do something about it.

'Fairness Doctrine' (or whatever it ends up being called) is NOT and will not be aimed at television or newspapers,

only radio; the single place where 'conservative' opinion outpaces 'liberal' opinion. With 'talk radio', the market has spoken, and soundly, yet that's not good enough.

Sorry, pretty vague on that one. I wasn't trying to defend the fairness doctrine (don't know much about it, but it smells like BS to me) but rather questioning that liberal radio has failed for the reason you gave.

Liberalism just doesn't hold up to factual analysis/ challenge, and having to deal with the opposing viewpoint undermines the station's credibility to the point they fail.
  11. It's going to be difficult because she sees me as her only true friend, she's told me this - but I really don't even feel that we are friends.

Having dealt with friends like that, I would be very skeptical about taking that statement at face value.

My group of friends from college has a guy kind of like that, who none of us really know why we're still friends with, other than just being too lazy to actively alienate him. He would do anything to be dramatic, with no regard for truth or reality, like making up lies about another friend trying to hook up with his boyfriend. He also skips out on events, then bitches about how he wasn't invited, even when it's really easy to verify that he was, such as when people plan events with email and facebook. He was so self-absorbed, some of my friends used to play games where they would respond to everything he said with complete non-sequiturs, just to see if he noticed. He didn't. Luckily, he's kind of moved on to a new group of friends, so I don't see him much anymore.

Look at it this way. People like that will be miserable with or without you. You will be miserable with them, and much better off without them. That may sound cold, but why drag yourself down for a lost cause?

...And to get back on the original topic of exes, as of two weeks ago, Enzora is single for the first time in over three years. It's a strange experience, being single, after all this time in a relationship.
