...And Thunderbirds and Cougars, too.

Saw a few old Beetles and VW vans buzzing around in So Cal over the last few days...along w/ several other cars you don't see elsewhere, like '70s Datsun 510s, '70s Datsun Lil Hustler pickups, '70s-80s RWD Toyota Corollas, an Initial-D spec Toyota Trueno (w/ the paint job, wheels and graphics as in the Manga). Whilst cruising around Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, etc for a few hours yesterday I saw lots of uncommon and unusual (McLarens) cars...
Yeah, if you go to some of the really upscale areas, you'll see quite a few nice surprises hidden amongst the Mercedes' and Bimmers.
I haven't seen the Initial-D Hachi that you saw, but there's a strong drift/import tuner culture around here, so I don't doubt it (hell, there's probably several just like it). And I'm sure there are still a lot of old Bugs roaming around, and I'll spot one every so often, but I'm just not seeing them with the frequency that I used to, say ten - fifteen years ago. Plenty of new Beetles and even more New Beetles though.

used to be a zillion of these running around when i was a kid. Even had their own cult appeal for the longest time.
Now, not so much...
To tell you the truth, I actually kind of miss them.

I'm partial to the newest Focus myself. I know a few people who've recently gotten one, and it's a really sharp car. Especially in 5-door form. Haven't gotten to drive one myself yet, but the auto mags (yeah, I know, I know) have given it good reviews. As a bonus, the manual transmission is the better choice as the automatic is a DCT with very un-DCT-like behavior (slow, clunky, daft)
Also, what about the Mazda3?
-
also, DF did you realize your forum title says slove, instead of solve?
or is that on purpose, and I'm the last one on the bus to notice?

I have it on good word that the site had some technical difficulties, and some data/recent posts were lost. So, no we're not going crazy(er)

These cars should be on the list also
Also, what the actual hell is that...that thing?!

Okay, so the last time I was on, I didn't do much, but I know I responded to a PM. Then I noticed a post I had made had a broken Image link, so I hid it (as it was long since too late to edit it), and reposted with an image hosted on a trusted source that i know isn't going to break. Then, I responded to a post in the Member's Design Showcase.
The kicker is, I came back today and there's no evidence any of this happened. The conversation I thought I responded to in PMs was still there, and I had left the person I was talking to hanging with his last question. The broken image link was still there, and the repost was not. The reply I made to the thread in the design section is not there.
Am I going crazy, or are strange things indeed afoot at the Circle K?

I never liked the post-facelift Ford Contour. SVT or not, I always thought it looked like they were scowling.
-
well, I supposed that's what it's supposed to do.
-
dear God.
although I did have a pipe dream about doing some fabbing to a Cobalt SS to accept an Equinox transaxle/transfer case and a Solstice rear end (thus making it AWD) and rallycrossing that sucker.

isn't that the yummy stuff in a Snickers bar?
And groovy ride, ocn. love the color, but I'm partial to black cars. the 51mpg ain't too shabby either.

That thing is such a beast. I'm not thrilled about the name, but with 950hp, menacing styling, and DAT SOUND, I think I'll get over it.

Anyone notice the Blue with White top Olds in the background or the Corvette?
I saw the Olds, as well as a Foxbody Mustang, an Original Mustang, a '57 T-Bird, a 70's Cadillac Eldorado, a Javelin/AMX, and an old Jag XK180. didn't find the Corvette.

No more elaboration is needed:
-
I still keep them all on a bookshelf. Although I really need to start another. It's packed tight as a cord.
-
heh. Ocn tests the waters.
-
Jeez, I missed it too! Hope you had a good one!
-
Nope. Not feeling it.
I don't even care about the architecture. things can be done to make this thing trail-rated and off-road capable. Design-wise however, they dropped the ball, bigtime.

on the subject of the Subaru:
That salesguy was a snowjobber. He should have gone out of his way to find just the car you want, if he really wanted to make that sale.
on the subject of the Sonic:
That salesguy really didn't want you to buy the Fiesta.
on the subject of the Fords:
I'm really liking the Focus, myself.

I had some twerp try to race me in a riced-out Echo once. The Cobalt handily beat him up the onramp (Half-again as much horsepower, thank you.)
Back when the first Fast & The Furious movie came out I used to have kiddies in riced-out Eclipses, Civics, etc try and race me from stoplights when I was in my Mustang GT or my M3. Even in my Jeep (4500lbs, 195hp) I was able to pull away and leave 'em...
If you were in the Mustang or the Bimmer, why did they even bother? did they really think their heavier-than-stock (bodykits), no-more-powerful (no mechanical mods) cars could really stand a chance? I've been able to fend off Civics and Eclipses with the Cobalt too, but I think even a "regular" E36 sedan is well more than a match for me.

The Cruze isn't a bad car. The Verano is just better. I hope they make a sport package for it, it deserves it.
