  1. Here are the fleet numbers for December as reported on MSNBC:

    GM said its sales were down for the month partly because it reduced sales to rental car companies and other fleet buyers. Susan Docherty, vice president of sales, said 23 percent of GM's December sales went to fleets, compared to 20 percent at Toyota, 35 percent at Ford and 50 percent at Chrysler.

    Looking at the automotive-fleet link from above, that is potential a huge increase for Toyota from MY 2008. I am sure some of you smart (not lazy guys here) can probably compare 2008 to the December numbers. Chrysler is the one that is in deep!

  2. Despite all the technology in the new cars (R8 and Van V8), the new LS series V8 just keeps proving to be a sweet engine. Before you get your hopes up too much, keep in mind this is a fairly base Corvette going up against cars the start at $70k more in price. Also remember that the F430 and the Vette are 3 to 4 years old. The list of excuses is long and goes on and on :AH-HA_wink: Funny thing is Vette may have fared better if not for the optional suspension :lol:

    The Astra is that car, without doubt. I knew it as soon as I took a seat inside after its auto show reveal, and just had it confirmed in spades during its introductory launch program in California.

    As you can see, I'm grasping at straws here, or at least clutching onto grab handles to come up with something wrong with this car, and I'm having a terribly difficult time doing so. Fact is that the Astra is one of the best cars in the compact class bar none, delivering thoroughly engaging driving dynamics within a sophisticated, upscale environment that should keep on looking good years after the honeymoon is over. I'm still shaking my head in disbelief, but folks you're talking to a real honest to goodness Saturn fan now. What's the world coming to?

  4. Fresh off the 3 vehicles making the 10 Best list, this will only widen your grin even more. The Corvette and tha Malibu made the Automobile Magaize All-Stars list. The triplets and the CTS made the short list of Runnerups. But it is the write up about the Malibu and the write up about the runner up Accord that will warm your heart!!

    Here are some of the highlights:

    Malibu - "This is the best Chevrolet family sedan I've ever driven." No, that's not from a Chevy TV ad; it was uttered spontaneously by one of our drivers after a twenty-mile thrash on challenging roads. Enough of us agree with that assessment to put the good-looking new sedan on the All-Star list with cars costing several times more. The Malibu might not be quite as good as Bob Lutz claimed after the car's Detroit show introduction, but it's not far off.

    CTS - After my dream garage was duly loaded with a sports car for each day of the week, I'd make room for a CTS, the Cadillac with an itch to smite the bluebloods.

    Triplets - You'll have a hard time finding a vehicle anywhere that can swallow as much stuff as the Triplets - and do it in style and comfort to boot. Forget about the complaints that their 3.6-liter V-6 isn't "up to task." That's true only if the "task" is racing a 911.

    Unlike so many cars, the EnclAcadiOutlook's task is so clearly defined and so cleanly executed that it's a winner regardless of whether it's an All-Star.

    But here is the greatest of them all.

    Accord - This - this, this, this - this is utter baloney. Horsehockey. Junk. (I'd be more explicit, but you're reading this on a family-oriented website.) If the Honda Accord isn't the most easily electable All Star on the planet, then my name is Paris Q. Richie-Lohan-Fawcett-Majors the third. It's a good car; no, no, it's a very good car, one deserving of so much more. Leaving the Accord off Automobile Magazine's list of ten wonders of the automotive universe is like saying The Godfather is a lame little movie about some bickering Italians. It's just not right .... the Accord was able to keep up with any number of faster, ostensibly "better" cars. (I'm looking at you, Volkswagen GTI.) I don't love the Accord, but I like it a lot. And, even though I'm only one of a handful of people who voted for it, it should have been an All-Star. There. I said it. Everyone else is wrong!

    The only Toyota to make either list is a Tundra on the Runner-up list.

    If they can make it next year, or if the G8 and or Astra get added to the list, this may really be the start of something!!!

  5. According to some other reviews, it appears GM has some 4 cylinder/6 speed auto Malibu's at the big testing in Tennessee. One of the auto magazines commented on this (can't remember which one). Kind of like a preview of whats to come.

    Could the reviewers and or GM be splitting hairs over the fact that the Passat 4 is turbo only and that the 'Bu will be the first 4 cyl NA with a 6 speed auto? I am not saying it is correct, but .....

    The CanadianDriver review also calls it the first :

    "For now all four-cylinder models are backed by a four-speed automatic transmission, but in the early Spring, LTZ models will get a new six-speed automatic transmission - the only four-cylinder/six-speed automatic combination in a mid-size sedan. Six-cylinder models also use a six-speed transmission. "

  6. Ahh, so maybe this should be advertised during the PGA tour, since people buying BMWs must play golf. I listen to rap, and bought a GTO, and cross shopped with BMWs.

    Here's a better question, do people who listen to rap buy cars? Yes. Who helped the Escalade get its bling bling image? It's called marketing.

    It also did wonders for the 300 when it came out. It was free advertising that said hey this car is hip, like it or not rap is much more of trend setter than country or other music right now. It is even turning out to be a force in the political arena (Vote or Die campaign, etc). One last point, who listens to rap now days? Remember rap as a mainstream art for is over 20 years old, many of us are definitely in the target demographic.

  7. I challenge anyone to point out the major, significant flaw in Flints analysis! Well maybe it is not so much a challenge but an obvious oversight by Mr. Flint. For someone that claims to follow automotive since the Truman Administrations, he has not been reading GM's PRs of late. Enjoy!

    As everyone has been heralding the move to RWD, I and a few others have been saying this all along. The top selling vehicles in the US are FWD (other than trucks). The 300's are and were a success, but that it quite relative. While the Impala may not out excite the masses, it continues to sell to the masses. It is a GM success story that gets no love, I do not know what percentage goes to fleets, but if GM has reduced fleet sales across the board that Impala is an even bigger success. So while Mr Flint has a number of flaws within the article, I think it is a valid point. GM has a car that can and has for years sold on par with the Japanese but they really do not show it any love.

    CHICAGO -- If 505 hp is good, can 600 be better?

    Call it horsepower wars. In summer 2009, Chevrolet will add a limited-edition Corvette producing about 600 hp.

    General Motors' announcement at the Chicago Auto Show last week follows a vow by GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz after the Chrysler group showed the 600-hp Dodge Viper last month at the Detroit auto show. That vehicle eclipsed the horsepower rating of the high-end Corvette Z06.

    "There is a distinct appetite for something beyond the Z06 in performance, beyond the Z06 in exclusivity and beyond the Z06 in price," Lutz said in an interview last week.

    The car is expected to have styling cues that separate it from other Corvette models.

    The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 currently holds bragging rights among the Detroit 3 for having the most horsepower -- 600 from its V-10 engine. That is a 90-hp boost over the 2006 model; a 2007 model was not offered. Dodge says the Viper will go from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds.

    Although Lutz did not mention pricing, industry sources expect the price for the limited-edition Corvette to approach $100,000. Currently there is a $25,505 step from the lowest-priced coupe to the Z06 coupe.

    The 2007 Corvette coupe and convertible have a 6.0-liter, 400-hp V-8, while the Z06 has a 505-hp, 7.0-liter V-8.

    Chevrolet produces about 3,000 Corvette Z06s annually. Production of the higher-horsepower Corvette would be lower.

    Said Lutz: "Corvette has taken on the character of a brand" and can support several models

  9. Well the SRX lease was up and in order to cut car payment and to save some gas my wife selected a brand new bouncing black Aura XE. We picked it up yesterday and will keep you informed on how it is going. She loves the interior and actually selected one with the tan cloth seats. I think it was an amazing deal for all of the features that came on the base model with the convenience package.

  10. I want Cadillac to keep it's assault on the upper ranges of the luxury market going. They have enough brands to handle entry lux, so what if you are not the best selling lux brand. Become the best lux brand, the hottest gotta have one.

  11. I think that comcept is sound, make Pontiac the true performance division and give it something like this as it's bread and butter car. I for one like the current GP styling, if they take that look philosophy and put it over the appropriate running gear RWD, etc I think The Chief would be born anew.

They should build up love for teh Solstice in Japan by winning some drift events :-> That is a gret review, it sounded like the Miata could be more fun to drive (if you like all the shifting) but that the Solstice was definitely easier and faster. You could see some of that in the first run where the dirver was complaining about the lack of torque. Can't wait until he gets his hands on a redline or GXP!!!!!!!!

  13. The omission of nav in this car is glaring, to say the least. The other two quibbles have no merit, though they could just as easily offer those options.

    Is it really an omission or GM trying to accomplish the same task in a different way? I am not saying it is the right way, but it is a different way. Either one will get you where you are going.
