1. Actually, I believe after the first year the oil pans were changed to accomodate 4 qts of oil, but I could be wrong.

I'd stay away from an 86 2M4. For one, the Iron Duke really is a POS engine. unrefined, the car was notorious for leaks. Blech. I also don't think the base model is that much of a looker. The suspension on that fiero will also leave something to be desired. And having to already have to do the brakes--yuck.

I think a fiero needing work already and an un-desirable basemodel is not worth 800 bucks. Maybe 500, but not 800. Hell, I had picked up a running Indy Fiero for $500 that needed some work.

2. longstory short.

Aww man, I love that. That car is absolute sex.

I just sold my 86GT. I'll get another one that day. I'd like it to be that ^^ one.

Edit: Another thing about that photo: Look at the black truck. It looks like a blazer with a removable roof, right? That also would be f@#king sweet today!

4. That's what I don't understand. The damn things are going to thrown out anyways.

The issue is that more embryos would be created for the pure sake of making a profit by selling them. And believe it or not, there are a number of clinics that will not destroy any embryos, and only create as many as they need for each case.
5. I'm not against suburbs or anything like a lot of the people over at that SSP site.  Since I grew up in a small town, I know what it's like to have a backyard, have a neighborhood park down the street, have houses in neat little rows with front porches, and have ample space to park a car.  You never have to worry about paying for parking or being late to work due to heavy traffic.  It's a nice, quiet atmosphere.

But I do think it's getting pretty rediculous how large some cities are sprawling out into farmland and desert.  A lot of the older suburbs pre-1980 were more compact, but drive around any major city today and you'll see suburbs with $250,000 homes with huge parcels of land, no sidewalks, and no greenery.  It's about as anti-community as you can get.

A lot of co-workers at the firm I interned at this summer live in a neighborhood in Des Moines called Beaverdale, which has some beautiful old brick homes from the 30s and 40s.  The trees are fully developed and lined neatly along the street and it's a fairly young neighborhood with local eateries and recreational space.  That is the type of neighborhood I have grown up in, and that's the type of neighborhood I think I want to live in when it's time to purchase a home.  Not to mention the commute time to downtown is about 10 minutes with traffic.

Man, I wish houses around here were only 250k. For that on LI you're looking at a one bedroom shack in the middle of Wyandanch or Brentwood(which, for those of you not from the Island, aren't exactly the best places to live).

6. :hissyfit: Why does everyone have to live so far from me! I'd have snapped that up fast.

Oh well. Lets hope it goes to a good home.

Aww, come on, throw a bid out there. I'm sure shipping can't be THAT expenisve.
7. If you want a Millenia, BV will trade straight up.

180174

I'll have to pass on that one for now :P . Right now, I just need cash for it, since I already have another car, and my finances are a little tight.

Besides, maybe I'll just do the clutch and take my dad's Fiero out for a spin :ohyeah: V8

8. How convinient that Toyota for the longest time was saying "300+" HP and now, after GM's figures are released, its "leaked" that the Tundra supposedly has 400HP.

Paper engineering?

9. the trailblazer is so archaic... its ride is horrible, its fuel ecconomy is second only to the commercial trucks... the long wheel base has already been canceled..

although the izusu and saab just got a model so maybe its not about to be canned...

174776

The Saab model of it looks terrible though. The sides are plain, and the grill is the worst. You can see where the bar is supposed to be, since the honey-comb grill just kinda gos blah there. Its a very disappointing effort, imo.

10. Just to elaborate a little bit on this.

One week ago, Stockscouter ranked GM stock as a 5(pace same as market, normal-risk). Now they've raised it to a 6--outperform the market, low risk.

Toyota, otoh, was an 8 last week, but has now been downgraded to a four.

Good times for GM, it appears.

11. Earnings Preview: General Motors Corp.

NEW YORK (AP) - General Motors Corp. reports earnings for the fiscal second quarter on Wednesday. The following is a summary of key developments and analyst opinion related to the period.

OVERVIEW: All three of the Detroit automakers posted declines in June auto sales, prompted by higher gas prices and tough comparisons with the start of last summer's heavy incentives.

In addition, GM's ongoing restructuring programs is also expected to impact the Detroit-based automaker as it struggle to right-size its operations and deal with mounting pension and health care costs.

GM, the world's largest automaker, saw its sales plunge 25.7 percent last month as it faced difficult comparisons to June 2005, which featured the kickoff of a sales incentive that allowed consumers to buy vehicles at employee prices.

Company officials said high gas prices pushed truck sales down 37 percent in June, while car sales were down less than half a percent.

GM also said in June that about 35,000 hourly workers agreed to retire early or accept a buyout offer as part of the automaker's plan to cut its 113,000-person U.S. hourly work force by 30,000 and close 12 plants by 2008.

GM expects to take a $3.8 billion after-tax charge to pay for the buyouts and retirements.

GM's cross-town rival, Ford Motor Co., is also in the midst of a restructuring program and said last week that it posted a second-quarter loss of $123 million.

BY THE NUMBERS: Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect GM to earn 52 cents per share on $42.59 billion in revenue in the second quarter.

ANALYST TAKE: Joseph C. Amaturo of Calyon Securities said his firm continues to believe that GM is in a better financial position than Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford and recommended that investors buy GM shares ahead of what he expected to be a "strong earnings release."

"In addition to the material year-over-year as well as sequential earnings improvement, particularly in the company's hugely important North American automotive operations, we expect strong results from GM's other regions," Amaturo wrote in a report issued Wednesday.

"Although they are considerably less important to the company's near-term profit turnaround, they represent regions of the world that are expected to post more meaningful longer-term future sales growth for GM."

WHATS AHEAD: GM has begun 90-day talks with Japan's Nissan Motor Co. and Renault SA of France, about a possible alliance between the three companies.

Carlos Ghosn, chief executive of both Nissan and Renault, said last week that the talks are simply studying whether a tie-up with GM makes sense, but they will not address the possibility of holding capital stakes in each other.

STOCK PERFORMANCE: GM shares rose about 42 percent in the quarter to close at $29.79 on June 30 on the New York Stock Exchange. So far this year, GM shares are up 52 percent to close Friday at $28.98.

12. i wonder how all this is going to affect consumer reports...

168686

[Consumer Reports] Toyota continued to show their commitment to quality by offering both on and off-warrranty repairs to their customers. They made sure to recall all vehicles in doubt before any problems could arise. We love Toyota. Toyota Toyota Toyota. [/Consumer Reports]
13. Wasn't the Fiero the 1984 Indy 500 pace car?  Is that the error?

XP715, I do believe that the actual pace car Fiero used "Super Duty" parts, which basically meant that those parts were intended for race car use-only and not street use.

165657

There's our winner.

When I had bought an Indy Fiero, I spent about 6 months looking trying to find someone to sell me the parts for a Super Duty 4. Eventually I gave up, and sold the car to a collecter(It needed pretty much a full resto)
