    Essense, ST package, AWD.  It was the best blend of features and price for us.

    It came with the black 20" wheels with the ST package. I would have LOVED the 20" silver wheels that are an option of the Essense, but it looks like GM is not making those yet. You either get the Avenir with those specific Avenir 20's...you get the Black ST 20's, or the 18's.

  2. We had a 2014 Mazda 6, the first year of the 'current' gen model. 

     

    When we got it there was a rattle in it.....took it to the dealership and they took care of it right away as a Technical Service Bulletin was out on in.  Other than that, 50,000+ miles later and not a single problem.

     

    That was a huge relief coming off our our 2008 Saturn Vue before it, which had a remarkable list of things that broke or just weren't right that required well over 10 trips to the dealership (seriously, it was like 12 or 13 times we were back while still under warranty)

  3. I always liked the Vibe, just wish GM would drop it's own engine in it. A 2.4L Ecotec would give it a nice smooth ride!

    I am intersted in this, but I hold just the oppposite view on you regarding the engine. I have had 3 ecotecs (last year Cavalier, a cobalt and a 2.4 HHR) as well as one of the Toyota family of 1.8's (A celica GT) and by far and a way, the engine was the strong suit of the toyota. It had a LITTLE less power (due to the lack of torque) than the ecotec in our Cavalier and Cobat, but it blew away the Ecotec with fuel economy and was a bit less 'buzzy' at anythign over 3000 rpms.

    I know, I know...there is more standard equipment, it is a better vehicle...but....this is what I do know:

    -when most new vehicles are launched, they only have a modest price increase over the outgoing one

    -for the way I would want one equiped, it is thousands over what I would get now. There is a lot more standard equipment, but most of it is for stuff I don't want or need.

    I have owned a Vue in the past and I saw the new one at the Ny auto show, and I liked it a lot. But I'd be interested in a Redline FWD vue, and I simply cannot justify a $28,000+ price for one.

    I still like it, dont' get me wrong, but for that price, I won't be getting one.

    I totally agree. This is another classic example of GM doing something 90% right...but the 10% they don't do is the important thing.

    If these both would have cone with 6 speed Automatics, for example, their appeal would be dramatically greater. There are just a LOT of people who don't hate GM, but when these cars are up against the competition at that price point (approaching Acura/Infinit levels...certainly above Toyota levels) and cars with comparable specs can be had with more perceived refinement, they will fail.

    I know GM WOULD release the 6 speed automatic with them if these cars were designed for it..or it would fit....or they were able to ramp up production enough.....but the bottom line is they aren't doing any of those things.

    Heck, the navigation system is nice...but give it a 6 speed automatic (things that much lesser cars come standard with) even I would consider one of these at that price point.

  6. It seems as though the Cobalt MCE has been pushed back to be an early '09 MY rather than an '08.

    Is the source of your information official or at least reliable? The reason I ask is over the past few weeks, I have read or heard from some people the same thing...that the refresh has been pushed back a year...and at the very same time others have told me that they are sure it is still on schedule for this fall.

    No one has anything close to an official source though...I would just like to see some info to back up either of sides of this story.

  7. So it's a Redline... but it doesn't have any power boost?

    That's kinda dumb. I know they likely don't want a powertrain to compete or outdo the Lambda's, but seriously, the Redline needs a little more juice. Otherwise, it's just an effects package, and that's lame.

    It's a Handling package also..and while to you that may not be much...it is something that to me is almost as important as the power.

    We had a regular 04 vue with the 250hp engine...and while it was great...the Redline that I drove was simply more enjoyable to drive than our Vue because of the suspension.

  8. I like it a lot. Might look a tad better with bigger wheels, maybe 19"..but it looks pretty much like I wanted it to.

    Now for the important part. It needs to have a lot more than 250hp....and the 263 reported for the Equinox SS would be better, but I really want to see it above 270.

    Remember, this new Vue is going to weigh 400-500 lbs more than the current one. Horspower needs to be up near 265-270 just to be sure this 4000 lb Vue has the same performance as the outgoing 3500-3600 lb Vue with 250 hp. The 6 speed auto should help versus the current 5 speed, but no where near enough to offset 400 lbs.

    Botton line...this looks good...I thin it will sell better than the current Vue Redline...but GM has to bump that power well above 250.

  9. I have been looking at these pictures long and hard, trying to find out what it is about this vehicle that I think is just 'not quite right'.

    Don't get me wrong, I like it. I'm glad its here. Right now if you were to ask me what is going to be our next new car next year, it would come down to this, the new 08 Vue, a Mini Cooper, or Maybe a G6 coupe.

    I think I found out what it was. The Wheels. Not the style, I love the 5 spoke style...but its the size. They need to be a bit bigger. Certainly I'm not advocating a car like this rolling around on 24" wheels or anything like that. However, I think that is what it is missing.

    I say this becuase I often look at the Trailblazer SS with it's 20" wheels and think to myself "wow, that is so aggressive looking"...but when I look at this or the Saturn Redline Vue (with 18" wheels, not 20's) I think..."it looks ok, but not as aggressive as the TBSS".

    I really think that is the difference. This, along with the Redline vue...looks good. But if GM wanted to get the same 'wow' factor in terms of sportiness that the TBSS gets, they would have to add slightly bigger wheels.

  10. I know that in ND, besides using the SUVs to get around in bad weather, they use the SUVs to lug around the portable scales they use to weigh trucks after the state did away with wiegh stations.

    I was visting my relatives in Buffalo NY in October when they got hit with their Lake effect snow storm.

    In one of the suburbs, the Police there had Ford Explorer 4x4s. There were so many trees down on the streets though, and then those downed trees and branches were coverered by almost 2 feet of snow..that one of the Police Explorers was stuck on their street for almost an hour and had to get pushed/pulled out.

    Maybe a slightly larger SUV would have been helpful?

  11. where are you getting your weight from?? an 06 awd V6 weighs about 3600lbs and change. Your saying an 08 is better then 4100lbs?

    I don't see it. Don't be too impressed with the Honda 3.5/5 speed auto--it dosen't reallly put out :P

    dimensions/weights posted please.....anyone?

    Also, The Opel Antara, which is almost a twin of the Vue, has official curb weights of over 4,000 lbs also.

  12. Not the Ecotec as a whole, just the 2.4L... and keep in mind that the current 4cyl Vue has the 140hp 2.2L Ecotec, so this is a step up for the base model.

    You have to remember, it may not feel like a step up. As I have angrily posted about in a few other threads about the upcoming Vue, the 08 is going to weigh 500-600 lbs more than the current Vue.

    Even with the additional bump in power, the new 4 cylinder Vue may feel the same (if not more sluggish) than the current ones...and the 2008 6 cylinder Vues (despite a 6 speed automatic instead of a 5 speed auto) are likely to be downright slower then the current Vues.

  13. It strikes me funny that the Redline would even share the exact same engine with the standard V6 VUE. No turbo, no further DI, no nothing. I don't understand diminishing a credible performance package into an appearance upgrade.

    In the current gen vue, the Redline had the same engine as the regular V6 vue, but it was acceptable, because in 2004 when the Vue's 3.5 was introduced, it blew away just about everything else in it's class in terms of performance.

    But now 3 years later, not only won't it blow away most of the competition, but it will be well behind some of the competition in terms of performance (even when that compeition can be had at likely a cheaper price...the 3500-3600 lb Toyota Rav4 with 269 hp and 21/28mpg).

    Once again, the extra weight with 250 hp is acceptable in a 'regular' Vue, but don't even bother to launch a redline version until you can get a little more power in the engine.

  14. Its even more absurd in a compact CUV. My car weighs 3998lbs, which is heavy for its class and how it manages to top the scales like that confuses me, but its a big car. This is a bit odd.

    It shouldn't be totally unexpected. The Vue is a virtual clone of the Opel Antara, and the curb weight of the Antara has been documented many times to be at or over 4,000 lbs..so it is the same with the Vue.

    I really don't mind if it weighs that much if the chassis and suspension can handle the weight and it still handles well...but that is only IF the vehicle as a whole doesn't lose much performance form the current version. The 6 speed auto will help performance, but it will probably in NO WAY come close to making up for all that extra weight.

    I can accept 250hp as a top line option in a 4,000+ lb V6 vue...but NOT in the redline. If Saturn actually offers an AWD Redline Vue with only 250hp at 4,300 lbs..it will be embarrassing. At the very least they have to have some kind of upgrade to the engine to get it up to 275hp at least in the Redline version.

  15. All past Vue Red Line models have just been the top V6 model with a body kit and altered suspension - dunno if they might do the same again.  I'm sure the 3.6L+6spd will be very nice, but I'd like to see them make the Red Line model higher performance than the regular top model this time...

    First of all, I like the design of the new Vue...BUT...

    We were seriously going to consider buying one this coming summer, but I want a Redline version. Now I'm very dissapointed because we now will probably opt for a Rav4 sport or a car instead.

    It almost makes me sick that the new UPDATED Redline Vue is going to have the same HP as the current one, but weighing 500 lbs more. Even with 1 extra gear, that is going to be SLOWER than the current one. I wanted a slight increase, not a decrease in performance.

    I guess there is a chance they might give the Redline a higher rating, but I doubt it. The specs released by Saturn/GM show the engine as having 250 hp, and under that very description of the engine it says it will be in the Redlien version.

    I'm happy for those who aren't looking for an ultra performance Version of the Vue, this should be nice for them. I'm dissapointed myself though...now if we get a small SUV it is going to be the Lighter and more powerful Rav4.

  16. I really like the styling of this Captiva. I agree it doesn't seem necessary to have both this and the Equinox, as they are simliar vehicles...but give me the choice and I'd take the Captiva.

    Of course being here in the United States, I don't think we will have that choice. But if we did, The Captiva with anyting more than a 200hp engine would be at the top of my list. I like the Opel Antara, which will be the new Saturn Vue...but the front end of this just looks a LOT better to me.

Wasn't expecting much beyond an engine that should be standard anyway-I don't see a point to Pontiac living unless sporty styling and Zetas appear-I don't see either here (or in most of the rest of the line), though the grille is a nice change-now the rest of the car needs to look significantly separated from Equinox in the styling department should it have a point in existing. Now how about a 300hp version to combat the Acura MDX (which is more Buick Enclave's department, but it would still make a nice performance SUV, more fitting to the GXP character.

    Well as you said this vehicle would be slotted 'below' the MDX, it would be more of a competitor the the Acura RDX.....and this vehicle should both 'outpower' and weigh less than the RDX. Maybe some will complain it will be 'less refined' than the RDX, but it will also be much lower in price.
