Bob Smith Automotive Group, aka "The GM Giant", in Easton, MD, has closed recently after GMAC filed a 14 million dollar judgment against the dealership for non-payment of loans. 100 employees out of work, the lot empty. Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, GMC and Cadillac were sold there, and Oldsmobile before they were killed. The dealer principal believes his debt can be paid with the inventory taken from his lot, and the dealership is for sale.
This is quite a blow to Easton's economy, a small town on Maryland's Eastern Shore. They were one of GM's largest volume dealers, and won "GMAC's Dealership of the Year" in 2001.
I worked there for 10 years, 1993-2003.
Things are really getting bad out there.
Blu, there's something so utterly sad about a closed down car dealership. It's like a death. These are troubling times.

While Western Canada hasn't been as hard hit as the US with this deep recession, some things are changing.
Dealerships going out of business is almost unheard of here in Calgary, but I saw a local Saturn/Saab dealership ad
delaring 'closing doors forever'.
I don't know the particulars, but sad to see this happen.

Oh, and Opel and Vauxhaul?.....they will become history.

I believe GM could do just fine with this:
Chevrolet
Chevrolet Trucks
Cadillac
After they finally declare bankruptcy, this is probably how it will be structured. And sadly, Corvette will not be part of this. Maybe resurrected in the future.

Yep the fox is in the henhouse. Finally the leftists have GM and the auto industry just where they have always wanted them. Just the saddest of times.
Just the thought of GM groveling to these people is frankly humiliating.

The state of car design generally is at an all-time low. This is a good example of it. No clarity. No definition. Homogenized. So many cars looking all alike. It's depressing.

This is a car for people that are indifferent to cars. A necessary evil if you will. It's sad to see Honda going in this direction. Sure I'll never buy one of these dull cars, but I have to see them on the road. Not a pretty sight.

How bizarre. Frankly this is really quite silly.
I've always tried to be reasonable in my posts.
I've seen some of the most hateful, vulgar posts on C&G and nothing said or edited.
And with that I'm finished with C&G.
I've had mostly good times here and enjoyed the insights of a few great people here...they know who they are.
And I wish those individuals much good fortune in the years ahead.
But there is a limit to one's patience.
