  1. True on both counts. Diesel will give awesome fuel economy, but the fun-factor and personality aren't there. It is boring, but so are the Corolla and Civic and they sell. Although Corolla and Civic are nameplates that have been around for 40 years and are well known.

Have you driven a modern diesel? I had some seat time in a 3/4 ton reg can Duramax recently. It was very fun to drive! A slight lag, if you hit the gas too hard on take off but then the huge mountain of TQ kicked in pulled HARD and EFFORTLESSLY. No its not the same as running an engine to 6-7K rpm but it's still fun.

A diesel Cruze will out accelerate any gas engine in the Cruze so far and get the best mileage. Win-win.

  2. Consider Alpha's substantially lighter weight, and the 3.0L looks pretty enticing. The 3.6L would be used in mid-level models. :AH-HA_wink:

thats precisely why you keep the 3.6L DI---it would be faster and get better gas mileage then the Zeta 3.6L Camaro.

The 3.0 would just dilute it--I mean that in the nicest way--the Camaro is still a pony car---people don't buy it for gas mileage, or similar factors that people look for when buying a 4 door family sedan.

If Camaro did go Alpha--it stands to reason because of the lighter weight--fuel economy goes up. That should be good enough--I don't think every single last gallon of gas must be squeezed by putting in smaller engines--at least in the Camros case.

Leave that to the "normal" more "pedistrain" cars. Cruze, Malibu ect.

One V6 is plenty---I just think it should be the best one. There has not been to 6cly since the first gen. And as much as I like the huge variety of engine choices offered back then....we are never going to return to those days.

    That's my thinking :)

but what would you think of a 2.0 LNF Turbo as base in Alpha? I just hope they make it so they can stuff a V8 in there.

  3. This is my rant for the month (or week, or day?)

Why do people take a name- say Cobalt and say 'Balt? No one else who did not own one would have a clue what your talking about. Are you just lazy or what? Or like hacking up car names for no real reason?

Stranger: hey nice car---what is it?

    You: it's a 'Bu

Stranger: what? Never heard of it

    You: I mean Malibu

Stranger: why didn't you say that?

    You: I don't know?

    Same for Malibu---'Bu??

    Equinox---'Nox?

    and Camaro---'Maro???

    Drives me nuts--anyone else agree?

I don't see Camry owners saying--'mry or Cam?

    Civic---'vic?

out side of Mustang--I can't think of any stupid short names from any other cars (non GM)

Just curious if anyone else hates this like me :)

  4. Ok, for a while, it will be my 92 Regal coupe. I'm now within 1,000 miles of 250k.

But, if I had to use the LaCrosse as the daily driver and wanted to get a back-up putt-around car, and no longer had the Regal, I'd consider the following (if I could find low mileage ones):

    - 98 or 99 Intrigue, base, only with 3800 V6 and not the 3.5

    - (just saw this) on my way to work in the AM, I pass up a non-GM dealership that has an early 2000s Grand Prix GT coupe in the metallic gold with the tan interior. I really like those.

    - lastly, I thought about how nice the early 2000s Bonneville LE with some stock wheels, NO spoiler, and the plump cloth bucket seats might be as a freeway cruiser/boulevardier...and really useful to cart people around comfortably or put a lot of stuff in the trunk.

What would your "extra" car(s) be?

I would really like an 00-02 Olds Intrigue with 60K or less. Throw on some better looking wheels, 235/55/17 and drop it just 1"

Thats the plan when the Cobalt lease is up.

I have driven all W-body cars and the Intrigue was easily the best

  5. $4.00+ gallon gas makes me think I'd be happy as pigs in $hit

if I could spend $23,000 & buy a power option delete Camaro

    with a 2.4 ecotech, wide-spread-gear 5-speed & highway

geared rear end for a killer combo of "MPG & cool factor" 5th

    generation Camaro style.

    [let the roasting begin]

Just remmeber I've owned dozens of V8s, so sellig out it's not.

why would you want a gutless Camaro? I can't stand hot looking cars that are slow. A 2.4L NA would be straining against the weight. I have a 2900lb Cobalt 2.4L automatic--and it bores me to death.

At least wish for a Turbo 2.0L Ecotec!! They get better MPG then the 2.4L NA.

Have your cake and eat it too!!

  6. everyones city driving is different. Maybe you have lots of stop lights, maybe you get on the highway more (free way..whatever). Hence city driven MPG cannot really be compared unless you drive the exact same route as some one else.

I have only 3 stop lights on the way to work..I guess about 15 miles. 10 of them are on the highway (that runs through town). Morning commute is twice as fast...free flowing light traffic. Afternoon commute is twice as long...the highway slows right down and sometimes stops. So my mileage suffers there.

However--a nice long highway trip you can compare more accurately

  7. Frustrates me GM continues to bleed.

Its products are the best they have ever been! And among domestics--their product line up is so far ahead of Ford and Chrysler.

Who buys a Taurus or Sebring? YUCK

    I just don't get it

  8. Great deal!

Wonder how you'll do for gas mileage?

    I have the 2.4L SS (07 4dr auto)

Computer says 9.0L per 100km, it was close. I did the math and it was 8.89, 26 US MPG or 31 CDN MPG

I like my interior--don't find it cheap at all--yes the Mazda 3s nicer inside.....

  9. yeah a few good diesels in the right application. On a side note---around here all I see are domestic diesel trucks--I know they have gotten quieter over the years but they are still pretty loud.

Sawa VW Toueg with the V10 Diesel---it was very quiet. We need an eqaulivalaint passenger car diesel here.

A delta with a Turbo-Diesel would be great---I'd love to have 240lbs-ft in mine :)

Direct injection every where and some more Turbos--on V6's can take the place of some V8s.
