  1. It isn't a good sign when a fair number of automotive writers (myself included) looks at a new vehicle and wonders, what's different? That is the case with the new 2021 Lexus IS which was unveiled last night. The exterior for the most part is unchanged from the current IS. The only changes we can spot include, a new "three-dimensional" version of the Spindle Grille spilt headlight arrangement has been dropped for a new single headlight setup more prominent shoulder line 18-inch wheels are standard on the IS, while 19-inch BBS wheel

  3. Lexus finds itself in a bit of a bind. With demand for crossovers growing, Lexus is doing a serious look at its product lineup and deciding what needs to be added and what needs to taken out. "We're more focused on maximizing the opportunities we have than comparing ourselves," said David Christ, the new general manager for Lexus to Automotive News. "Our product plan is what I would call a work in progress." The current focus for Lexus is the upcoming launches of the ES and the subcompact UX crossover. The ES is expected to keep current Lexus owners happy, but the new F-Sport pa

  5. Last month, we reported that Lexus was dropping 2.5L V6 for the turbocharged 2.0L four in the IS sedan for Europe. We heard the engine would be coming to the states, but no timeframe was given. Today, Lexus announced details on the 2016 IS for North America. The big news is the turbo 2.0L is part of the changes, along with another engine. First up is the IS 200t, which takes the place of the IS 250. This packs a 2.0L turbo-four with 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet. This is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Now if you want all-wheel drive, you oddly can't get it with

  7. The Lexus IS is quite good vehicle - aside from the looks - but it has one big problem. The base 2.5L V6 is a bit of a dog. There isn't enough power to move the IS around. Luckily, Lexus has a solution for this problem in Europe for the time being. Meet the Lexus IS 200t which has the same turbocharged 2.0L four found in the NX crossover. This produces 245 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine will come paired with an eight-speed automatic. Lexus claims an 7 second run to 60 MPH and combined fuel economy of 33 MPG on the European cycle. The IS 200t will go on sale in Sept

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 27, 2012 If you walk into a BMW dealership and are wondering why certain 1, 3, and Z4 models are wearing the "is" badge, that's BMW distinction for their performance models that sit between the normal and M models. The 'is' badge will soon be going away though. According to Car and Driver, BMW will be replacing 'is' nomenclature with the M Performance Line. For those who need a quick refresher, the M Performance Line will give BMW vehicles tweaks from BMW's M division under the hood, exterior, and interior. So vehicles like the 135is

  11. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 22, 2013 For the past year or so, we've been hearing murmurs on a new Lexus IS coupe since Lexus showed off the LF-CC concept at the Paris Motor Show. Now, the Lexus coupe is real and is coming to this year's Toyko Motor Show. A source tells Automotive News that Lexus will unveil the production coupe in November and it will wear the RC nameplate. The base RC will use a 3.5L V6 with 306 horsepower. Follow that will be the RC-F which is reported to pack a 460 horsepower V8 engine. The RC is expected to go on sale late next year. Source: A

  13. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com May 22, 2013 According to What Car? Lexus is planning to build a IS Coupe that will go sale next year. The IS Coupe is expected to carry many of the design elements and cues seen on the LF-CC. Powertrains are likely to be similar to the sedan; 2.5L and 3.5L V6 engines. Also in the cards is a next-generation IS-F. Much like the last IS-F, the new model would use a V8 engine. No word on a possible release date. Source: What Car? 15. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 15, 2013 After revealing the exterior and interior last week, Lexus provided more information on the IS today at the Detroit Auto Show. The IS will come with two different engines; a 2.5L V6 (IS 250) and 3.5L V6 (IS 350). Lexus hasn't released any performance figures, but has said that the 2.5L will come with a six-speed automatic and the 3.5L will have an eight-speed. There is also a new hybrid model, but that will be for the time being for Europe and Japan. Under the skin, the new IS features a multi-link rear-suspension design

  21. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 16, 2012 Lexus has pulled off a surprise before this month's Paris Motor Show by showing off the LF-CC coupe concept. The concept features the L-Finesse design language shown on the LF-LC concept. As the images show, the concept wears possibly the boldest implementation of the spindle grille. The overall body looks to share a lot in common with the LFA supercar. In a press release, Lexus says the concept is not just a look at the next generation IS, but also at a new coupe. Inside, Lexus says the LF-LC concept is a preview of what

  23. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 15, 2012 Lexus has so far redesign/refreshed most of their sedan lineup except for one, the IS. Well, we have some new information on what to expect on the new IS and IS-F and when they'll be coming out. The design of the new IS will draw heavily on the look of the new GS and revised LS, including the spindle grille and LED lighting. ''When you're a challenger brand and you're No.4 [in sales], you can't afford to be evolutionary,' said Lexus Australia's corporate marketing manager, Peter Evans in a interview with the Australia's The A

So far, Lexus has unveiled the new GS and ES, and a refreshed RX. Coming up is the LS and following behind is the next IS. ''When you're a challenger brand and you're No.4 [in sales], you can't afford to be evolutionary,'' said Lexus Australia corporate marketing manager, Peter Evans to Drive.com.au. So what are we expecting with the new IS? Exterior design will have Lexus’ now trademark spindle grille wrapped in a coupe-like seda
