  1. Tesla is moving further into exotic car territory with the Model-S and Model-X. Elon Musk announced in a tweet on January 9th that after January 13th, the 75D versions of both vehicles would no longer be available for order and the new entry-level model will be the 100D. The starting price for Model-S 75D is $76,000. That gets you an AWD EV with 259 miles of range that can do 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. Telsa's AutoPilot is available for an additional $5,000. Moving to the 100D is an increase of $18,000 to $94,000. That increases the range to 335 miles and cuts a tenth of a second off the 0-60. The Model-X 75D starts at $82,000 with a range of 237 miles. With that gone, the new base Model-X 100D results in a $15,000 increase in Model-X base price to $97,000 with an increase of range to 295 miles. These price increases come on the back of the reduction in federal tax credits that begin this year, from $7,500 to $,3750. That brings the total effective price increases for the Model-S and Model-X to $21,750 and $18,750 respectively. After June 30th of this year, the tax credit will fall further to $1,875. The Model-S and Model-X have been selling well against such heavyweights as the Mercedes S-Class and BMW X5. However, Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes, and Audi, as well as upstart Rivian , are all releasing competitors to the Telsas in the coming months.     Tesla stock price

    Tesla's stock price is going through the floor. It has lost a significant percentage of its value since September. I suppose it's due to the lower price of oil, which makes switching to electric vehicles less attractive. Would you invest in Tesla stock at the moment? I wouldn't. I think they're seriously over valued due to all the Sillicon Valley fanbois.

    Prices Of Used Cars Begin to Fall

    Since the recession has ended, the average price of a used car was soared due limited supply. But The Detroit News says with more vehicles coming in due to leases coming to an end, prices are beginning to fall. According to CNW Research, the average transaction price of a used car in September was $10,963. Compared to the same time last year, the average has dropped 2.1 percent. "During the recession, it almost cost as much to get a used car as it did to get a new car, but now the market is going back to historical norms and it's going to be better every month. From 2008 to 2012, there was a significant growth in the number of leased cars and now they're all coming back to the market. As supply is increasing, auction values are dropping ... making used cars more affordable," said Larry Dominique, vice president of TrueCar. Used car supplies are on the rise as well, with 9.76 million vehicles sitting on used lots in September. That's an increase of 1.5 percent when compared to the same time last year. But there are downsides to increase in used car supplies. Analysts say the increase of supplies means it will be harder for dealers to move vehicles. Also expect an increase in lease rates.     Acura NSX To Go On Sale In 2015 For North America

    It has been awhile since we reported anything on Acura's upcoming NSX supercar, but the fine folks at What Car? had the chance to speak with the NSX's head of development Ted Klaus, who has revealed some intriguing information. Klaus revealed that the NSX promises to bring the performance of a Ferrari 458 Italia for the pricetag of an Audi R8, something that the previous NSX promised to do as well. We have to achieve the type of acceleration that the customer is achieving with the Ferrari. More importantly we have to achieve this every day and also at the Nurburgring," said Klaus. "I think we are aiming within the range of the Audi R8. I realise that is a wide range but the NSX will still be extremely accessible." Klaus also revealed that the company is planning a number of different body styles and power outputs. The NSX is expected to arrive in 2015 for North America, while Europe has to wait till 2016.     Ford Slashes The Price Of The Focus EV

    William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 11, 2013 Automakers seem to be having a tough go with electric vehicles. The only way it seems automakers are able to move their stockpile is by drastically cutting the price. We've seen it with the Nissan Leaf which saw it sales jump General Motors hasn't gone down that same route with the Volt, but is offering a number of discounts. Ford looks to be doing the former option with the Focus EV. The Detroit News reports that for the 2014 Focus EV will see a $4,000 price drop. That brings the base down from $39,200 to $35,200. While that should help out the Focus EV, that's still $6,000 more than the base Nissan Leaf. Ford said in a statement the lower price “keeps us competitive in the marketplace.” The price slash is a bit of a surprise since last month, Nancy Gioia, Ford’s director of global electrification said they would not follow in the footsteps of compeitors doing a price cut. “We’re not going to chase down to the lowest price possible — that doesn’t make sense to erode the brand image or the true value of the product,” Gioia said. A very good thing since truck sales seems to be in very good health - in fact Automotive News says that truck sales are arguably healthier than they were pre-recession, despite the volume is still below pre-recession levels. How? The per-unit profit has increased massively, outpacing the industry average by more than double since 2005. Edmunds says the average transaction price of pickup truck stands at $39,915 – a 8 percent increase (after inflation) when compared to 2005's average transaction price of $31,059. How important are trucks to American automakers? Well a Morgan Stanley analyst says 90 percent of the Ford Motor Company's 2012 profits come from the F-Series. General Motors follows closely behind with two-thirds of their 2012 profits coming from the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Analysts say the near-term future looks very good for trucks. The P1's performance figures put it in a very special class where the likes of Bugatti and Koenigsegg live. The figures are as followed: 0 - 100 KPH (62 MPH): less than three seconds 0 - 200 KPH (124 MPH): less than seven seconds 0 - 300 KPH (186 MPH): around seventeen seconds. Top speed of 218 MPH To help bring the P1 to a stop, McLaren fitted a new type of carbon ceramic disc that dissipates heat more effectively to give the vehicle better cooling and braking performance. McLaren says the P1 will come fully equipped for track and road-going uses. The pricetag for the new P1 will be $1.15 million. McLaren says there will only be 375 P1s built for the world. Zero to 100km/h (62 mph) will take less than 3 seconds, zero to 200 km/h (124 mph) in under 7 seconds, and zero to 300 km/h (186 mph) will be achieved in no more than 17 seconds. This is 11 seconds faster than the legendary McLaren F1 road car. Top speed is electronically limited to 350 km/h (218 mph). The McLaren P1™ has translated to production form with very little changed from the prototype shown at the Paris Auto Show. In fact just one change-the addition of LTR ducts ahead of each of the front wheels to further aid cooling and optimise downforce. McLaren has announced a global production number of just 375 units – a figure that will ensure the McLaren P1™ will remain a rarity. McLaren has also announced that the car will have a base price of $1,150,000 in the US and have a specification that fully equips the car for both road and track use. The company prides itself on designing performance cars that their owners can use regularly so the McLaren P1™ comes standard with a comprehensive specification list. The options list is limited to only bespoke content that a customer might wish to add through McLaren Special Operations, and fitted luggage. As already announced, the McLaren P1™ will have the combined force of two highly-efficient powerplants, offering the optimum mix of superb throttle response, day-to-day drivability and top speed. A mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine is substantially enhanced featuring, for example, larger turbochargers and a highly effective electric motor, to give a combined output of 916PS (903 bhp) and a maximum torque figure of 900Nm. This ensures instantaneous throttle response through the rev range, more akin to a naturally aspirated engine. Emissions of less than 200g/km on the EU combined cycle are reduced to zero in full electric drive mode, while the Formula 1-derived DRS and IPAS technologies offer an increase in straight-line speed and an instant boost of power. The tires fitted to the McLaren P1™ are specially developed P Zero Corsas, which have been developed with McLaren's technology partner, Pirelli. The team at Pirelli has been involved throughout the entire development program, and this has seen the tire testing phase integrated into the schedule, as a key performance component. The final compound and construction has been developed and optimised during testing, and the end result is a tire that is finely tuned specifically to the performance and handling characteristics. To rein in the power produced by the twin powerplants, the McLaren P1™ is designed to offer braking performance more associated with a GT3 or sports racing car. Developed by McLaren's Formula 1 partner Akebono, the system features a new type of carbon ceramic disc, which has previously seen service in space, but never before used on a road car. Stronger than conventional carbon ceramic, the material dissipates heat more effectively, giving the highly efficient braking system exceptional stopping and cooling capability. The system also boasts significantly reduced weight, and a bespoke ceramic layer coats both friction surfaces to give an attractive mirrored finish. The car can also be driven solely in electric mode. In city driving, with an average speed of 30 mph, this could mean up to a 20km range. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 11, 2013 Chevrolet has cut the price of the 2013 Malibu as part of an effort to entice consumers to look at it and not competitors such as the Toyota Camry. The base price of the base Malibu LS saw its price drop $345 to $22,805 (including shipping), which undercuts the base Camry’s price by $235. The Malibu 2LT and Eco trims dropped $300, while up to $770 was cut from the LT. The base price of the base Malibu LS saw its price drop $345 to $22,805 (including shipping), which undercuts the base Camry’s price by $235. The Malibu 2LT and Eco trims dropped $300, while up to $770 was cut from the LT.
