Maven, General Motors' car-sharing service launched in 2016 will be ceasing operation in several cities in the U.S. The news was first broken by the Wall Street Journal on Monday and has been confirmed by a GM spokeswoman. Eight out of the seventeen markets that the service operates including Boston and Chicago will be closed down within the next few months. According to the spokeswoman, the shutdown is due to GM wanting to "concentrate on markets in which we have the strongest current demand and growth potential." Those markets in question include Detroit, Los Angeles, and Toronto. Another possible reason is the lack of awareness of Maven in the eight markets being shut down.   3. Tesla Model 3 Shut Down for a Week! Seems Buzzfeed website just released the news that the Tesla 3 will have a week delay just as it had it's first week of 2,500 production built model 3 done. This is according to the CEO to make adjustments in the software of the automation robots to allow for production to increase to hit their stated 5,000 per week goal. Seems more robots was not better than more humans in building the auto's. The story goes on to say workers will have to use a week of PTO or go unpaid as the line is updated. According to the Story, Musk posted on April 1st that the company had gone out of business and he was wandering Palo Alto drinking Teslaquilla. Seems that the lackluster quality of the Model 3, production slowness, investigations into accidents all have led to this shutdown to tweak the manufacturing process. This makes one think about Musk's original comments when he said they did not need an Alpha or Beta test of the production line to begin building and selling Model 3's. OOPS, Guess that did not work out like planned!
  4. It was in late January when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' CEO Sergio Marchionne announced that the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart would "run their course”. A diplomatic way of saying we wouldn't see a second-generation of either model. But Marchionne mentioned that both models could continue on if a partner was found. Motor Trend has learned that FCA is currently with potential partners, although who isn't mentioned. “There are discussions going on now. I think we will find a solution. We continue to talk. It’s both a technical solution and an economic one. We need to find a solution that works economically,” Marchionne said to Motor Trend on the floor of the Geneva Motor Show. The key thing FCA is looking for in a partner to build their small cars is someone “who is better at it than we are and who has got capacity available.” This comes on the heels of FCA announcing an extension of the temporary shutdown at Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan - home of Chrysler 200 production. The plant was shut down on February 1st and workers were expected to return on March 14th. This was to help cut down on the massive supplies of 200s sitting on dealer lots. FCA has decided to extend it by three weeks to April 4th. A FCA spokeswoman tells Reuters the reason for the extension is to match supply with demand.
