  1. Almost 2 years ago, my friend moved my car into the street and left it unlocked.  At 4:13AM, Max, my collie jumped onto the edge of my bed and started growling out my window (it faces the front of the house), and I of course said, "Max, down, quiet." and dismissed him.

Sure enough, they ripped my stereo out of my dash (broke the dash panel and plastic covering the gear selector gauge), and stole my CD player.

The joke was on them though... the CD player didn't play CDs anymore! haha! ;)  Although my dash has been ruined since :(

Hey, maybe your buddy saved you some money... At least with the car unlocked they didn't have to break your window to get at the stereo ;) .

  2. I work at Best Buy and have a BB Credit card with cardcare so I just put all my CDs on that.

Cardcare covers theft etc for 99c on every $100 balance, so if somebody breaks into your house and steals your laptop you get back all your money. What a lot of people don't realize is that it covers EVERYTHING you put on the card, so every CD I buy is fully covered for theft. All I have to do is file a police report if they are ever stolen from the car and I will get all my money back.

  3. Simply... I just dont have the time/energy for it.

When I bought it, I was just finishing high school and had grand plans to repaint it, fix up the interior, throw some new wheels on, etc etc... I figured that with HS over I'd have all the time and money in the world to do it. That was two years ago.

In that time I realized that with university and the money I make at work, I only really have the money to pay for insurance, gas, and maintenance on a car. I really don't have time or money right now to put the extra work into the car that it deserves.

It also isn't practical for me to put so much into a car and only really drive it a couple of months in the year (I'm in Canada, no winter for the Monte).

I actually just took a deposit from a guy and will be getting the balance on monday... shes sold!

Too bad, I really liked the car, but its just not right for me now... I need a daily driver.

I passed on the STS... Too much was open to question on that, I doubt it would have lasted longer than a year.

Right now I'm prowling the lots for a nice W-body... Intrigues, Impalas, GPs, Regals... maybe an 00 Monte ;) . One of those will fit me nicely until I finish my degree and get a real job. Maybe then I'll have time for another old car.

  4. I'm on a quest for a W-body daily driver with nice power, good looks, reliability, and a bit of luxury. I found a bunch of nice Impala LSs but they are all a little on the pricey side...

But I also found a pair of Intrigues that I really like... They are both almost identical, silver, similar features, almost exact same price... the big difference is one is the 3.5L Shortstar and the other is the good old 3.8.

I know the 3.5 is well known for its smoothness, and the 3.8 for durability. How do they compare power/torque wise? Which one would be more reliable? Does the 3.5 have the same expensive problems as its bigger Cadillac cousin?

  5. Its a 78 Monte Carlo with 79,000km... Its not restored, but it has no rust. The frame has no holes and it runs fine (maybe needs a carb adjustment). Its a little lacking on the cosmetic side, I was hoping to get 4500+ for it (CDN).

  6. I got more details on the car... its actually a 94, Midnight Green, and has 240,000km (149,000 miles I think...).

I'm a little turned off now that I know the mileage, but I'm still going to look at it. Apparently it is mostly highway (aren't they all??? ;) ).

  7. Bummer... Thats why I always keep it in my head that if somebody cuts me off, hit them. Take the b*stard down with you and let insurance sort it out. Better than running yourself off the road and having to take it all alone.

  8. Drove past that building when I was in the D for NAIAS in January... very ominous looking... Honestly I thought it was kind of cool. The old Packard plant nearby was pretty cool too.

Theres actually a very modern GM plant very close to the old Fisher facility... I think they build the DTS and Lucerne there.

Its a pretty new plant... Fisher simply wasn't worth upgrading. IIRC the way it was designed in the 1920s with multiple floors etc was just unworkable with modern manufacturing.

  9. Must be the GM influence ;) .

Honestly Im J/king, but I've seriously seen people on Toyota boards try to blame GM for any problems with the Prizm or the old Novas... lol.

  10. I'm selling a car and a guy that called me is interested in a trade for a Caddy STS... I think it was a 97. I wasn't really planning a trade but I do like the STS and that would save me the hassle of going car hunting...

What should I look for? I haven't seen it yet and I don't even know the miles so I don't have my hopes up for actually trading, but it does interest me. Like I said I love the STS... what problems are common in them? Where should I look to see if the guy actually took care of it or not?

  11. Looks like it might be car buying time for me again over the summer... I'm a 19 yr old university student though so I don't have a huge budget... I'll probably get something between $4000 and $6500 Canadian... I've been looking around and have seen some decent prices on Cherokees, Impalas, Monte Carlos, Intrigues, Lincolns... etc.

How are older Caddy Devilles? I asked a while back about the 89-91ish generation and most people told me to generally avoid them. What about the 94 bodystyle?

There are great deals on these to, and they are definitely nice cars... I'm just not sure if they'd be a headache to own or not  .

  12. The Tundra, Tacoma, Highlander, Rav4, 4Runner, and Sienna are all considered part of the "Toyota Truck" lineup...

GM does that too though... they put the Equinox in the "Chevy Trucks" lineup.

Honda is the worst IMO... their "Honda Truck" lineup is the Pilot, Ridgeline, Element, CR-V, and Odyssey... There is not 1 real truck in that list.

  13. Whats so great about the GL8? Its just a rehash of the awful old Venture... at least with the Terazza you don't have to worry about having your foot shoved down your throat in a front end collision.

  14. This madness must stop.

Fake convertible tops are OK on Buicks, but not Impalas. It just doesn't look right.

Some poor girl at my university drives a 97ish BEIGE Camry with a fake convertable top... The car looks like its got about 300k too cause the roof is all peeling. I feel sorry for her, its probably the ugliest car on campus :( .

  15. If I remember correctly "wood" is a no-cost option, at least on my G6 it was. Thank goodness mine didn't come with it.

I don't even think it is an option on the civ Impalas... unless you get an SS, all of them have wood.

But that said its nice looking wood... the Impala, Lucerne, and Lacrosse are examples of fake wood done right, the G6 looks awful with it.
