Id like to add:  Because it seems NOBODY wants to talk about the REALITY OF WHY manufacturing will NEVER come back to North America no matter WHAT kind of monies we throw at it to try to bring it back. And FYI, NOBODY is REALLY investing in ACTUALLY bringing back manufacturing to North America...

     PRELUDE

Nixon opened up the door to do trade with China. (not a bad thing)

Reagan allowed Wallstreet and corporate America to move manufacturing from the US to China.  (In hindsight, a very bad thing for what it was to be)

    CHAPTER 1

The industrial revolution arrived. It supercharged the British Empire and it helped to introduce a young country into being a very powerful nation in the decades to come.  We are here to talk about the young nation and not about the British Empire.

    CHAPTER 2

Ultimately, the industrial revolution brought many innovations on how to produce and manufacture even more efficiently and faster.  It helped win a world war or two and the last man standing so to speak allowed this young nation become almost the sole superpower on the planet.

    CHAPTER 3

Many many many products were produced.  Many many new technologies came to be that introduced a new modern society. And those new modern products also brought with them NEW MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUES.

    CHAPTER 4

Remember when I said that this new nation rose up to the challenge to help win a world war or two?  Well, it was the industrial revolution ace up the sleeve that the USA had and the sheer amount of war machines produced efficiently and with speed was the key to these victories.  Especially that last world war.  When the war was over, the USA enjoyed the technology of mass production that was the envy of the world. (remember the bolded part.)

    CHAPTER 5

Eventually, manufacturing left the USA to go to China. The world followed suit.  China produces the world's gadgets.

CHAPTER 6   (THIS IS THE IMPORTANT CHAPTER THAT NOBODY TALKS ABOUT)

China has invested TRILLIONS of dollars in manufacturing. Why? THE WORLD depends on it. China holds itself PROUD to be the world's producer of goods. China wants to CONTINUE TO BE the world's producer of goods. So...China has upgraded their manufacturing plants to be very very state of the art. They will CONTINUE to INVEST not only in monies to ALWAYS RENOVATE their manufacturing plants, but they TEACH their populace to go to ENGINEERING schools so they could ALWAYS have STATE OF THE ART MANUFACTURING.

CHAPTER 7    (ALSO IMPORTANT THAT NOBODY TALKS ABOUT)

The USA actually stopped renovating in manufacturing looong before the manufacturing plants left for China. But that is not the issue. The issue is, there are NO monies invested RIGHT now to bring back manufacturing. There are NO plants being built.  LOL tariffs...   And where are those monies from the tariffs?

No American company has invested in manufacturing plants to be built. No American company has worked with AMERICAN engineering schools to teach graduating students to manufacture goods in the USA to actually be with techniques of the early 2000s let alone 2025.  Loooooong gone are those 1930s/1940s/1950s techniques...  We are in 2025 let us not forget.   The USA doesnt even have the TOOLING of those 1930s/1940s/1950s plants. Those were sold to China and elsewhere in the world, but those metal tooling dies right now, have probably been recycled. NEW technologies to manufacture...

CHAPTER 8  (A TRUTH THAT WILL PROBABLY HURT BUT DEFINITELY NOT TALKED ABOUT)

A certain American does not favour education.  This certain American favours ignorance.   MOST Americans do NOT want to work in a factory.  But ALL Americans do NOT realize MODERN factory work is NOT how it used to be.  To be fair, Apple iPhone workers in China committing suicide because of shytty work hours is also loooong gone. But then again, American media does not allow for  American peoples to know what a modern manufacturing plant consists of.  Also, engineering is too hard for those subset of Americans to actually learn how to manufacture goods in a modern state of the art way to not only compete with China, but to surpass their prowess in manufacturing to BRING BACK manufacturing from China to the USA.

    CHAPTER 9 (ALSO IGNORED)

And even if, some manufacturing plants came back to the USA.   There is something that we learned DURING the industrial revolution that says the USA will NEVER get ANY manufacturing plants back.  Sheer volume.  The WORLD has China to produce its goods.  China will ALWAYS remain CHEAPER to produce there just BECAUSE of economies of scale.   The skilled labour is in China.  The raw materials are shipped to China to produce whatever you want to produce. ALL the plants of whatever you have thought of producing whatever you want are ALL in China.  All kinds of different ports exist in China to accept ALL kinds of RAW materials.  ALL the ports are huuuuuge in China. ALL the ports are state of the art.  The BOATS to ship ANYTHING ALL OVER THE WORLD are ALL in China.  The boats are huuuuge and the ports could accept them.  And ALL that coordination is done by STATE OF THE ART communication, education and logistics.

PS:  China and the Chinese government subsidize world ports. The USA once did that...  The USA declares the  Panama Canal as their own.  Past history is past history in subsidizing the canal, but China actually finances it PRESENTLY to open up a bigger canal.  The USA whines abut the name of Gulf of Mexico....

In 2025, CHINA is the envy of the world in manufacturing techniques.

No...manufacturing is NEVER coming back to the USA.   Forget about tariffs, ICE agents, DOGE, assassinations, school shootings and everything wrong (or right) about right wing politics  and left wing lunacy.  THOSE are  just ADDED reasons NOT to do business in the USofA.

Sadly the world is already on board with letting the U.S. consolidate into depression, recession, failure on every front and way. As one of just many stories out there from the BBC:

Firms will hesitate to invest in US after raid - South Korea president

The more you read from around the world the uglier it gets:

South Korea says detained Korean workers released from Georgia facility before flight home

Fastest way is to have a Narcissist ignorant idiot47 and his administration be too stupid to understand that Americans do not have the knowledge to setup battery plants. Nor is the desire to get the technical degrees by most folks especially in the south based on recent education reviews of states here. So, this leaves companies to bring in temporary outside folks to get things setup so they can train those wanting to get the jobs. Yet the stupidity is so great that the $350 Billion that Korea committed to invest in the U.S. is now probably not going to happen.

Presidential Chief: $350 Billion Fund Talks Stalled

This is shown by Hyundai now thinking of mothballing the existing plants under construction and just keeping things as is for now. That means no $35 billion investment for Georgia, 10's of thousands of jobs and growth in the auto industry here. No this is Stagnation and death of the Auto Industry in the U.S.

Ram has killed already having any type of EV and the Ramcharger EV pickup will now be a copy of what Ford did with a traditional gas truck and electrical to offer using the truck as a generator much like the F150 with pro power package were used to power homes in Texas due to the stupidity of that state leadership with a weak electrical grid.

Ram's electric pickup truck is officially dead

In other words, ignorant leadership brings death, and the days of the old manufacturing industrial revolution is gone and will not come back.

The biggest problem is that neither political party is working for "We the People" they are clearly taking money into their own pocket and letting the 1% have their way, this will destroy what people think America is about.

Idiot47 and his lemmings have no clue about "We the People", they are stupid in understanding the constitution, willing to manipulate to break the laws for their own self entitlement gain and fail to see how they are destroying this country.

While CEO Mary of GM says they are still committed to EVs, the pull back and single line manufacturing of all EV models while they invest billions in old tech is not going to save GM in the long run unless they truly make some major changes. Society will move forward, auto industry will move forward the Ford, Stellantis, and GM, America auto industry very well could become a footnote in history books by 2050, though it could get stretched out if America truly becomes a dictatorship state, then look at Russia and their old back assward country as well as North Korea and how behind they are. Two 3rd world countries thinking they are 1st world and a 1st world country becoming a 3rd world country due to stupidity.

  2. No matter what, loss of life is sad and I feel for his wife and kids, I did not like nor would ever support Kirk as he was a racist POS imho.

People like this bring it on themselves when they ignore history and go down the rabbit hole of hate that Kirk and the MAGA movement has done. Wish all the MAGA an early dirt nap! Society will be better off without them.

In regards to the auto industry, Ford, GM and Stellantis have dug their own grave and ignoring technology and moving forward you get what you get and the Chinese have moved forward with society not backwards the way Maga and many U.S. companies have done.

Have a friend who just left at the start of this week for a tech tradeshow in Amsterdam and has informed me very few people visiting their booth and many of those that do tend to be very negative about their products / services.

My gut tells me that GM Cadillac of Europe is going to fail hard due to the whole MAGA BS in DC.

The big investments in ICE is a MISTAKE and will be a short term bump in profits for Ford / GM / Stellantis, but long term will hurt them.

I honestly am thinking the Blue states need to stop sending the tax dollars to the feds since the Politicians are not representing me and we do not get anything really back to the Blue states, might as well let the red states starve.

It is amazing how stupid the states getting the bulk of fed dollars are.

    Least Educated States 2025

Seems the states with the highest wages, best education and healthcare are the blue states.

At this point, if America was to fracture, I could see the whole west coast becoming a new nation and the rest of the U.S. is going to be in a world of hurt.

If Canada makes their own agreement with China and I can see this happening like Mexico did, I agree with @oldshurst442 that the U.S. is screwed and the U.S. auto industry will die over the next 3 to 6 decades. Just like Japan is falling farther behind in the auto industry for moving forward with EVs, Korea and China dominate right now.

Sad state of affairs that idiots chose stupidity to run this country, but as I have also said, both major political parties are to blame for the FAILED Immigration system as well as Phouquing up SS / Medicare.

This video rewatching it again just reenforces that BOTH political parties have FAILED America in fixing immigration!

The people just want to work, pay their taxes and go home.

Love the comments from everyone that says let all companies pull out of the red states and fail.

The more I watch this video the more I have anger for the Idiots of ICE as there is no need for all the chains on these people as if they are mass murders.

I would not blame Hyundai from pulling out and letting this country fall down.

Pathetic part is that most of those folks here had valid work permits and have skills that America does not have since most Battery / EV production is outside of the U.S.

So much for bringing back Manufacturing when you have such idiots in charge that cannot understand the need to bring in folks with the right skills to train the folks here to do the job.

  6. Facts are Facts and clearly the loss of jobs is proof that the Tariffs have not helped but hurt the U.S. Economy as it is a distraction from the wealthy taking more and crushing the hard workers of America especially in Manufacturing such as the Auto Industry.

It isn't nearly as cut and dry as you're making it out to be. Below is a much better breakdown of how it was actually funded (Lumen Field, at least).

A breakdown of the funding package:

    • $130 million private investment led by Paul G. Allen
    • $127 million from new, sports related lottery games, similar to the Mariners’ baseball-themed scratch games
    • $101 million in sales taxes collected in King County attributable to events in the stadium/event center
    • $1 million per year of in-kind advertising for the new lottery games will be provided by Paul G. Allen
    • $56 million from facility admission and parking taxes
    • $15 million from extending King County’s share of the existing hotel-motel tax
    • Paul G. Allen agreed to pay for any construction cost overruns
    • All excess stadium revenues will fund youth athletic facilities throughout Washington State in addition to a $10 million contribution from Paul G. Allen
    • $14 million of the public contribution will come from interest earned on the $50 million private contribution from Paul Allen
    • As an added measure, the debt on the Kingdome was retired, freeing property taxes for other purposes

The way that reads, to me, is the sales tax is only for those who are attending events at the stadium. If that is correct, it seems like a fair way to publicly fund the stadium, by its users.

The sales tax is applied to all businesses in Washington state excluding grocery stores. As such, no matter if you support or not the pro teams, but you go eat at McDonalds, sit down dinner at Anthony's seafood, etc. there is a 1/2% sales tax that you pay that is dedicated to go to the stadiums.

As such everyone pays it. I have gone down this rabbit hole when it first quietly hit our sales tax and plenty of others here have complained about that it originally was supposed to only hit select businesses that support the stadiums, but the politicians here made it a blanket tax that everyone pays.

  8. @oldshurst442 @ccap41

Good to know that some stadiums were paid for with private money.

Old's I understand the Olympics and the money trap the countries / cities get caught up in, but I do appreciate the global competition in sports as my son was part of the U.S. Gymnastics boys team from the JO program all the way up to the full Olympic program in Colorado Springs before he retired as it did wear on his body.

My disgust for Pro Sports comes from the NFL strike and the players complaining about how expensive it is to insure rare auto's and wanting more money, fancier places, etc.

In Seattle, Nintendo, owners of the Mariners baseball team as well as the Seahawks got the taxpayers to not only pay for their stadiums, but for the maintenance and the proof is that pro sports DO NOT bring in greater money than the costs of these stadiums.

While in some regards, I respected Paul Allen for his donations to various causes, as a billionaire I felt he should have paid for his own stadium. His sister who inherited his wealth and the ownership of the Seahawks had the nerve to tell Seattle they needed to continue to pay for maintenance of the stadium or she would look to move the team elsewhere.

Greed like this is what has turned me off of pro sports, I enjoy College sports, but even there at the push to allow private money in with what I see as manipulation, this next season will be interesting to see how it goes as I might end up not bothering to watch or support College either.

Interesting to see the latest info on this:

In the U.S., sports stadiums have been primarily financed through public funding, with many being built or renovated using taxpayer dollars. Notable examples include:
Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, which received $380 million in public funding.

Milwaukee Brewers' ballpark, which is expected to receive over $400 million in public support.

Tennessee Titans' new stadium, which will have more than $1 billion in public bonds.

SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, are among the few NFL stadiums fully funded by private money.

The public funding of sports stadiums is terrible imho. Washington state funded the stadiums with a never ending 1/2% sales tax. So no matter how one feels, everyone that comes to this state funds the sports stadiums.

I now own an Accord.  I have mixed feelings over its styling.  Yeah...I would agree that it would be the best looking affordable sedan today. I mentioned that if I was buying a sedan now Id be considering the new gen Camry.  From the general analysis it seems that now, gulp, 'tis the Camry that is more of a driver's car.  This would be the only reason why Id consider a Camry now.  The Accord drives nice. Its a comfy car. Its less of a driver's car than the TL that is for sure.

Why consider Toyota when you have other better options imho. I honestly do not remember if you bought a certified car, aka lease turn in or new, but there are these options:

    Kia - K4 or EV4

    Hyundai - Elantra N or Ioniq 6 N

    Genesis - G70, G80, G90 or their electric version

I suspect many businesses will close as the PNW is already in recession due to tech job lay offs.

All we can do is kick up as big of a stink as we can to get this nonsense to stop.   I beat up GM on social media as much as I can about the EV-Carplay thing.

I gave them details on why I would not buy from them unless they did a number of things.

    1. Gatekeeping of apps in Google playstore is a major problem for me.
    2. No Android Auto / Apple Carplay is another problem.

I do not think GM will budge on the Apple CarPlay thing.   GM has got their own software, as you know, and Im more than assuming and guessing that GM is betting all of their software egss into their own software development basket arrogantly not caring about anything else other than their own technology.  Im also assuming and guessing that they are very confident in their software.

I don not know how well their software works in the real world, and Im guessing not very good on how many youtubers are whining about it, but at the same time Ive listened to some other youtubers actually surprised that it worked well enough to even forget about Apple CarPlay.

But most of the whining that Im hearing about is just that most users are familiar with Apple CarPlay and that they do not know GM's software all that well and have NOTHING to do with how well GM's software works.

Also, with how many EVs they are selling at this point in time, which is substantial despite the current economical and political situations around us, Im again assuming and guessing that GM's beancounters are looking at those sales and saying "yeah...we do not need Apple CarPlay...phoque Apple and their CarPlay"

Im also assuming GM and every other OEM  has to pay a licensing fee for use of Apple CarPlay?

If so, yeah I dont think GM will EVER go back to offer Apple CarPlay.

All assumptions.  I could be wrong.

    About subscriptions...

If enough idiots pay for subscriptions from all OEMs, whether from Ford or GM or BMW or anybody else, get ready for this kind of thing to be a reality.

Its the idiots that we have to look out for. And there is NO EFFIN' way we could stop those idiots in NOT paying for subscriptions.    Good luck for all of us in this regard.

Go check out the Honda Prologue. Here Honda used the GM Ultium Platform, keeps AA/CP and has a far superior interface with the full Google Store.

Better yet, go check out any Kia, Hyundai, Genesis EV and you will see a better way to implement the interface and cell phone compatibility over what GM is doing.

Right now, Unless GM does 180 degree change, their poor software implementation and decisions on what you can and cannot do with your auto will keep me from ever buying GM again.

Right, but by 2030 an EV Equinox with 300 hp will probably be less than a 175 hp ICE version.  The Cadillac Vistiq has 600 hp vs the 300ish hp V6 in an XT6.  EV is just going to unlock too much horsepower and it will be cheap horsepower.

Yangwang U9 has 3,000 hp and does 294 mph.  What's Bugatti going to do, try to make a 12 liter W24 engine to keep up?  Corvette ZR1 is 2,000 hp down from the similarly priced Chinese competitor.  EV development is going so much faster than ICE at this point, I think in 5 years ICE is going to look like horse and buggy by comparison.

Only thing that will kill the EV is what the Germans have announced with a stupid monthly subscription to unlock the full EV potential of HP and other features.

Dorval airport or Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport to non-Montreal natives is a lot worse.

I am too exhausted to start naming ALL the bloody things wrong with it but everything that NYC's 3 airports have as flaws, Dorval has those. Plus hundreds of others.

Mirabel was constructed in the 1960s to fix YUL (to those that travel a lot know Trudeau airport by its calling)  but Mirabel had 3 fatal flaws in it and that is why now its only a cargo, private jet and Bombardier Aerospace/Airbus airport. BTW, YUL also shares 1 of those Mirabel flaws...

Montrealers and tourists alike deal with it. Barely.  Drivers in Montreal are suppressing their anger towards it.  And Quebec announced in July that another 10 BILLION will be awarded to renovate it again.  To accommodate  increased tourist capacity and business growth . Phase 1 to completed by 2028.  Phase 2 by 2035.

Mirabel cost Quebec BILLIONS to solve increased tourist capacity. EXACTLY that amount that YUL is expected to accommodate.   But referendums to split from Canada destroyed those tourist dreams and business endeavors. Its come back I guess.  But Mirabel is no longer able to be transformed for civilian air travel...

What Im saying is,  Id rather have NYC's airport problems than Montreal's...

The original Osaka Japan airport had all those problems and then some, so a major engineering project with an artificial island and now Osaka has a modern thriving airport.

    QUOTE:

Osaka's Kansai International Airport was built on an artificial island in Osaka Bay to relieve overcrowding at the original Itami Airport. Construction began in 1987 and the airport opened in 1994. The project was a major engineering feat, requiring the creation of an island using soil dredged from Osaka Bay and quarried from nearby mountains. The airport is designed to operate 24 hours a day and serves as a major international hub, handling millions of passengers annually. Despite initial challenges, such as subsidence, the airport has continued to thrive as a significant aviation center in Japan.
