  1. Nascar exists for the Good Ol Boys to drink lots of cheap piss budwiezer beer and fondle their cousin.

Road Racing is way better. We need a true race track like Germany has so we can really test the actual cars and drivers.

Gee, what a wonderful assessment/indictment of NASCAR racing. You don't have to like it, but you could at least be a little tolerant and not make nasty (and I do mean nasty and uncalled for) comments about it.

  2. Stop being so politically sensitive. You should appologize for that comment.

He was making a general comment of goverment in general. Please do not be like so many others today that only want their words to be heard and they insult anyone who disagrees. That is so wrong based on what and how this country was founded. Many of us may disagree with you but we do not condem you on your stands. We all need to be tollorant of each other out of respect.

There is enough bad going on in all partys to let everyone to take the blame. The sad part I see no end to the grief of the car enthusisast. We are facing times now that will be more damaging to our automotive interest than ever before.

I see the next move to force people into cars they want others to drive will be a large gas tax. This is not just to pay off the gov debt but to also make up for the lost revenue of the higher mpg cars. With gas $5-$7 it will force people into the smaller cars. The excuse for rasing the tax is that we will have higher MPG ratings to help cut the cost of the tax to the people. I have heard folks on both side call for this.

The car companies have supported this large tax only because they knew they would be force to build cars no one wanted and this is the only way they can sell them. The tx would be a great help to the Volt.

    Just one last note

To quote a great man "That government : of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." I wish more of us would remember these words other wise their is a lot to lose.

HyperV6, I totally agree!! I've been ranting and raving on many forums the last few months, I'm not picking on either major political party as I think they are both full of idiots that have absolutely no idea how to effectively run this country. Our personal choices and freedoms are disappearing faster than any possible climate change, they can't come up with a budget based on the taxes that come in, they increase existing taxes and add new ones every day, they would not recognize the US Constitution if it smacked them upside the head. They can't enforce existing laws, so they pass more new ones every day that they will not be able to enforce, our spineless "Supreme Court" is suffering from a severe case of not upholding the US Constitution (and has been suffering so for the last 50 years or more), we are being led down the road of "globalization" of the USA and losing our country. The problems and issues we will have being able to get autos and trucks of our choice (instead of what our government mandates) will seem like a non-issue when the public at large finally wakes up and realizes that we are totally screwed in every facet of our life. I don't see any existing political party that is willing to go far enough to keep our country as it should be, all I see is people looking to promote their own agendas and the country be damned. I certainly plan to buy a 2SS (unless they happen to come out with a ground shaking Z/28 or hipo engine package that will use even more fuel) and I fully intend to burn every last gallon I can afford to put in it. They'll have to pry the keys and steering wheels of my Camaros and SUVs out of my cold, dead hands (along with my Ribeye steaks, smokes, and what ever else I feel like indulging in).

  3. I believe our govt can't be stupid, but I doubt they are that stupid. Capping hp on engines? Not gonna happen.

Then you'd better wake up and smell the coffee!! Where have you been for the last 30-40 years while the fools at Disney on the Potomac have ruined most everything they have touched, passed laws and regulations that make little or no sense, and have sucessfully snuffed out much of our personal freedom and choices. Trust me, just as Rick Waggoner was replaced, there will be more and more laws and regulations brought to bear on GM (and others), if you think you will continue to have the choices and options that you should have you will be sadly mistaken. I feel that the new GM Chairman Obama will not hesitate to shut down Pontiac and anything else he feels like doing, and you won't even hear a whimper from the Supreme Court about what is/isn't constitutional.

  4. Reason One is also due to GM not having the foresight to use lightweight materials where they are applicable: aluminum hood and decklid, lightweight materials for the suspension, etc.

As for Reason Two, I think that even the planet of Saturn is smaller than a Challenger and has a weaker gravitational pull (it's a good looking tub of lard, though, I'll give it that). :P

As for Reason Three, it took some numbers crunching to get to that conclusion and the bottom line is I'm not willing to sacrifice my Cutlass for a new Camaro: in my opinion my Cutlass a better car, it's was/is cheaper to own, restore, and maintain versus the new Camaro, and the Camaro doesn't have the special feeling that you get with a classic car (that's why it's retro and retro still doesn't really do that).

I'll be happy with what's going to be in my driveway very, very soon and I don't have to offer my soul as collateral to own it either. :AH-HA_wink:

If I recall correctly, the hood is aluminum on the new Camaro.

  5. Doesn't that mean there is now an incentive for the banks to make as big of a cock up as they can of things so they can get government money?

The banks are being GIVEN this money.

For GM it's a LOAN..... and lest we forget, it's been done before with Chrysler with great results. (financially)

I agree with your statements. We also have to remember that the Congress and banks together pushed through programs which made thousands of loans to people that would not normally qualify for loans, in many cases not even verifying that they had a job much less that they had sufficient income to repay the loans. If GM can get enough concessions from the unions and also cut enough costs through getting rid of extraneous expenses, then there is hope for a leaner/meaner GM to emerge that will operate at a profit while producing vehicles that consumers want and are willing to purchase. We can only hope that the government does't strangle them by forcing them to build nothing but uninspired fuel effecient econoboxes.

  6. Unfortunately the way the fools at Disney on the Potomac are running things and passing laws that continue to infringe more and more on our personal freedoms, I can only see the overall picture for all US citizens getting worse, not better. And I don't think there will be any significant change in that direction unless and until the US population at large gets fed up enough to finally say enough is enough. And it is a terrible thing that the country would ever have to reach that point, but I certainly have not seen anything in my almost 6 decades of life in this country but less freedom year after year.

  7. the government now owns preferred stock in most of those banks that have taken money from the Tarp. it is 700 billion which was allocated to them, and the government was able to take stakes in those companies. when the stock rebounds, the government will actually make a profit on the investment.

And if you truly believe that hogwash, I've got a bridge for sale near Brooklyn, NY at a very reasonable price, email me ASAP for pricing!

  8. Two absolutely correct concepts. A third that smk hasn't considered is the sizable drop in petroleum costs. This is like a tax cut and stimulus package rolled up in a gift bow.

It could have been like a stimulus package and tax cut rolled into one, unfortunately the price of everything else has gone out of sight, one need only to take a trip to the grocery store to see that.

  9. I don't think this is about the 'south' rising again, or revenge... it's just pure idiocy, self-interest, selfishness, and a lack of connection with the average person.

Well that same thing can be said for almost every action they have taken in the last thirty or more years. "Lack of connection with the average person"?? They are so far out of touch with reality that I don't think they could grab their ass if they had to!! Much less understand what the average citizen feels about anything. And it makes no difference if you're talking about Republican, Democrat, or Independent lawmakers, they are all off in LaLa Land.

  10. I think the new camaro will be a nice car and nice competition for the muscle car class it is much faster and better value than charger or mustang only problem i see with it is its ugly

charger and stang are exallant recrations of the first muscle cars the camaro look more like the last one

i'm only excited about the camaro because it will force the mustang to stop sucking so bad

the challenger i just plain like

good deal for the car though

If you think the new 2010 Camaro is ugly, then don't buy it! The manufacturers can't please everyone with one car, just buy the Challenger you like even if the Camaro is "a good deal for the car though". Just FYI, the new Camaro was never intended to be a clone of the '69 Camaro, just some styling cues were taken from the '69.

  11. Hard to believe it's been less than 3 years..just seems longer. I was thinking 2005 NAIAS.

Right show, wrong year, it was the 2006 NAIAS at Detroit in Jan. 2006. And a lot of people keep complaining that it took "too long" to bring out the production Camaro, I think just over three years from concept to production is pretty reasonable!

  12. Loki:

The '67 Camaro had had a V8... it's the 'Vette that had to make

    due with the blue-flame-6 for '53 & '54.

    The 327 (2bbl & 4bbl), SS-350 (sbc) & late-year-intro

SS396 (big block) were all available in 1967 m.y.

There was also a 302cid V8 late in the '67 model year (read Z/28).

  13. That link is "broken," but...

... go to the link on page one of the thread linked above. Then, click on each option/bar thing, but don't drag it (just click it to leave it at zero, or whatever it begins at). Finally, click submit, then click to see the recommended cars. Only the Camaro should come up.

OK, I went in this morning and copied the web addy directly from the myproductadvisor website, I've tried it three times over several hours and this link works following the original instructions (you only need to answer one question in the "Auto Usage" section then click on recommendations to get the Camaro link). So here is the correct link to start from:

    http://www.myproductadvisor.com/mpa/auto/i...ry.do?refId=cs3

    Clyde

Edit: The C&G site keeps changing the link when I post it, it still worked for me, I hope it does for everyone else.

  14. Okay, so I moved the slider on one question under Auto Usage, hit submit, then went to Recommendations and still GOT NOTHING.

The directions aren't the problem here, wildpaws.

Well I can't tell you why so many here are having problems, like I said in my first post on this thread, I saw the link on another forum, filled out the survey completely, hit the reccommend button and went directly to the Camaro portion. So no problem for me to access it.

    Clyde

  15. There aren't any EXACT instructions to begin with... anything I do, I keep getting the same crap (Accord, Civic, RAV4...)

How much more in the way of exact instructions do you need? Do EXACTLY what it says and you will get to the Camaro specific part AFTER you fill out the general survey.

    Clyde

"Note - you must access the site by this specific url.

    http://www.myproductadvisor.com/mpa/auto/inputSummary.do

The process is pretty easy, but a little time consuming (plan to spend about 20 minutes answering questions). The site is split into a number of sections from "Auto Usage" to "Recommendations". These sections are dedicated to general automotive consumer research -- not just sport cars like Camaro but other cars and trucks (for example you’ll be asked questions on truck bed length, four cylinder engines, turning radius, etc.). We suggest you answer the questions on the site as if your mind is set on the Camaro (or like vehicle).

Please start the survey by clicking and answering a question on "Auto Usage." You have the option of answering all the applicable questions in each section (highly recommended), or just answering one question in "Auto Usage", and moving directly to "Recommendation" button on the right corner.

In this survey, the "Recommendation" button will not provide an automotive recommendation, but will start the second part of the survey which is dedicated just to Camaro. Once the "Recommendation" button is clicked, a picture of the 2010 Camaro will appear inviting you to link into the Camaro survey. The questions will include option descriptions and price ranges; but please note, these prices are being provided to determine demand, and do not necessarily reflect final Camaro pricing or packaging."

  16. I took the survey three or four days ago after seeing the link on another site (same link). If you follow the instructions EXACTLY as the first post tells you, you will get to the Camaro survey, at least that's how it worked on my computer.

  17. There was a thread somewhere where we were discussing the color palette for the new Camaro, can't find it now. Anyhoo, I saw a color today that would be my #1 choice to add to the palette--it's a metallic bright medium green on a '05 or so Bonneville. Beautiful color. I love greens.

I find it hard to believe that there was no green of any shade included for the new Camaro. While I would love to have a new version of the first gen. Rallye Green (which I had on my '69 Z/28), I know many people don't seem to like that color, but I find it hard to accept they have no green available.
