  1. Europe is finished. They are going to be completely left behind in the world sweepstakes. What they won't do for 40 euros and hour, someone in Bangalore or China will do for 2 euros - and work 50 hour weeks.

The Chinese will probably also build the product as good or better than their German counterparts. I don't think many people (including hardcore unions) understand that today's China has a MUCH better workforce and factories than they did a decade ago. To be honest, I would rather have a vehicle built by a grateful Chinese person than a German worker that is an ungrateful a**h***.

  2. 1. 9-5 (current vehicle)

    2. 9-1, 9-3, 9-5 (MUST BE NEXT GEN!!!)

Well, I like these vehicles and would buy one again. I really never liked SUV's so those models would be out. I would even consider a Sonett if they made one again.

  3. the CAW and Ontario government have already started to fight back against Oshawa's closing

    http://www.thestar.com/article/435968

Well, the CAW can say what ever they want but the factory WILL close down. GM will have to cover some contract costs, but that will be it. I think it's a joke that Hargrove stated that it is "unfair".Well, it was unfair for me when I could not get hot selling vehicles to sell because the CAW wanted ridiculous benefits. Life isn't fair and the UAW-CAW should not be treated any differently than any other person in the economy. This factory is made to build vehicles that DON'T SELL WELL IN THIS NEW ERA! Why oh why should GM have an obligation to the CAW especially for all the crap that the CAW put GM and their dealers through. As a GM dealer, I for one can't wait to see the gates on that factory to close for good.

  4. Just asking ... if the Chinese did that what would they have bought besides the brand name, the retiree benefits, and some left over tooling?

If the price was right, they could do well with buying the brand, patents, designs, and any special tooling they have. I'm sure there would be a way to eliminate any obligations to US factory workers if there were an initial bankruptcy. Especially if their going to move production out of the USA to restructure.

  5. exactly... whoever heard of an investment/financial company intentionally losing their butts... just doesnt look good on the record when they do. they got no stake in it, the ceo doesnt get money until out of the red so whats to lose if they whore out chrysler to the highest bidder?

.....and that highest bidder will be a Chinese firm. If that happens, I predict that the Chinese firm will move ALL production (cars, parts, etc.) to their home country and export back to the USA. This will bring Chrysler back into competition and the dealer base will be happy they kept their franchise.

  6. I believe that GM will give a job guaranty to the workers for a few give-backs. Over the next 4 years, GM will start to slowly push their production capacity to factories outside the USA (China will be a HUGE player). Their engineering from now on will be based off of universal global platforms, where vehicles can be built at multiple factories. GM will still invest in the United States factories but invest MUCH more in the factories outside the USA. When the next contract comes along, the UAW can stand outside for months and GM will be able to shift production elsewhere. I think that GM will ask for a HUGE pro-GM contract or they will just keep building elsewhere.

  7. What a great bunch of Facists we have here! You've all bought the view that the Internationalists want you to. I've seen this in motion for over 25 years now. The dismantling of the American middle class. Yes, unions have had their faults, and one of them is not keeping up with the times and trying to remain a viable part of the economy. But the real brunt of this comes from the corporations, who want to reduce working people back to poverty and the struggle just to survive. You think it's "good busienss" to send our jobs oversea to places where the people work in sweatshops for pennies on the hour? It's all to create this "New World Order" where the rich control EVERYTHING. And they will ruthlessly stop at nothing to keep it that way! This is what the greatest struggle of the 20th century was about. And we actually thought we defeated Facism when it's really been there all along behind the scenes! All we have left in this country is a population that is addicted to consumerism and a "credit card" lifestyles; reduced to modern day serfdom. At least unions have enough about them to take a stand against this.

That's not fascism, that's capitalism. In capitalism, ANYONE has the chance to join the "rich fat cats". Work hard and you will achieve. If workers don't like the destruction of the middle class, they have every opportunity to rise above it. I don't think most people understand the vast amount of opportunities we have as American citizens unless they lived in a government like North Korea (now THAT'S fascism). Fascism won't even allow you to work your way up the social and corporate ladder.

  8. Democratic presidential candidate Obama backs UAW strikers

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama on Monday issued a statement supporting striking United Auto Workers union members and urged General Motors Corp. to return to the bargaining table. "The demands the union is fighting for -- job security, the health benefits they were promised -- are things that all workers should expect and that UAW members deserve," the Illinois senator said. UAW members walked off the job at GM factories Monday morning after talks failed to produce a contract agreement by an 11 a.m. deadline.

Yeah, I read a few weeks ago an interview with him (CNNcom, Newsweek, Time....I can't remember). He stated that if he were president, he would consider walking the line with striking workers. I actually was kind of mesmerized by this guy...........until he said that.

  9. It's being confirmed by CNN.

    CNN BREAKING NEWS

This is bad news for UAW employees. Say goodbye to your jobs because GM won't hesitate to look at Asia. Sure, it won't happen right away and the strike issue will be resolved, but you're going to see some big plant closures over the next decade.

I hate to see that happen, but that's their only choice in this type of environment. Like you stated, it won't happen right away, but it will happen over the next decade.

  10. well this is gm's turn to play hard ball and see how much confusion they have if they just let the employees go, and hire new ones...

dont resign the contract and get the employees to quit their union high wage benifit job...

gm may look like the bad guy but save themselves millions if they just kick em off the premisis

The problem with that is that those workers will get unionized eventually if they become permanent, so GM will be back where they started.

  11. Apparently negotiations are continuing, but some are walking out. Appears to be some confusion.

Oh no, there is no confusion. The UAW's idea of negotiation is if they don't get what THEY want at the exact time THEY want it, they walk out. No matter if they both still are talking it out. I wonder when GM gets a true global production base, if they can just lock out the workers at an exact time no matter what and just build vehicles elsewhere until the UAW finishes the talks with them. The UAW would be in an uproar.

  12. Parasites !?! You got a lot of nerve! Who's the parasites here? It's non-uniion workers who have benefitted the most from what unions have long fought for! (40 hour work weeks, holiday pay, overtime pay, safety regulations, etc.) I bet you've never worked in a really hard job a day in your life. Try working on an assembly line, or mining coal, or working in a bucket truck on power lines. You might see why you would want to have a union watching your back for you then!

I have worked in the auto sales business all my life and have worked harder than the vast majority of assembly line workers. From washing cars when I was a kid to managing customer relations AND the IT department now (which includes computer programming, network integration, etc.) I have more niche skills that I worked my a** off to get than ANY factory line worker. Long hard days at work AND long hard days through college to receive my MBA have payed off well for me. I have never joined a union and never will, because my pay is based off of what I am worth and what I worked hard for. Listen, most people appreciate what unions have done for America in the 1800's and some of the 1900's because it's unions that have established all the employment laws. All unions are doing now is demanding WAY more than they deserve for their jobs and hurting our economy. This isn't the 1800's any more! That is the spot-on definition of a parasite, and I anxiously wait for the day when unions are purged from our country.

  13. Well, this is complete BS on the UAW's part. If they want to work along with GM so badly on contract talks, then why don't they continue the negotiations with GM without striking? This is the last straw for me! From now on, I will still buy GM vehicles, but only vehicles built outside the United States (since there are no non-UAW GM plants in the USA). I hate to do that, but the longer we support these parasites, the longer they will stay. I support America and GM but I DO NOT support the UAW in any way, shape, or form.

  14. Two things that struck me on the Sept. 21st news:

    1. Why in the world does the UAW think that the workers deserve a cash bonus when GM is still struggling? I thought bonuses rewarded prosperity?

    2. Why should GM have to pour more money into the health fund after their initial deposit if the fund runs dry? The fund is being run by the UAW, so it should be their responsibility to keep it afloat.

These points make me scratch my head a little.......

  15. Another person who thinks they know it all. I work at GM. I am not the one at the table with GM. We are as much in the dark as anyone else. I take nothing for granted. If i have to give back to keep my job then so be it. So dont go saying we are the ones taking something for granted when we have not even voted on it or much less even heard anything.

The UAW has been taking their situation for granted for years. They are living inside a bubble that is NOTHING like the outside world.

  16. Well, these workers need to be thankful for even getting a retirement plan and indirectly funded health care. That's more than the majority of the nation gets. I also think that if the UAW is concerned about the downtrodden workers, then the UAW should be held accountable for their workers health care. GM will put enough good money in the coffer, but it's up to the UAW to use it wisely and keep it funded through wise investments and union dues. I don't like this "fall back funding" that the UAW has been talking about if the health care plan is in a deficit after GM gives the UAW the money. It just makes me angry when I see the union workers taking their top-rate jobs and benefits for granted.

  17. This is cool, but I think that it would be better if some car maker bought the rights to the name and re-designed this car to incorporate todays engineering (the original quality was AWFUL). Keep all the iconic parts though (gull wing doors, stainless steel, tiny windows, etc.). That would sell like crazy!
