  1. The Chinese will probably also build the product as good or better than their German counterparts. I don't think many people (including hardcore unions) understand that today's China has a MUCH better workforce and factories than they did a decade ago. To be honest, I would rather have a vehicle built by a grateful Chinese person than a German worker that is an ungrateful a**h***.
  2. 1. 9-5 (current vehicle) 2. 9-1, 9-3, 9-5 (MUST BE NEXT GEN!!!) Well, I like these vehicles and would buy one again. I really never liked SUV's so those models would be out. I would even consider a Sonett if they made one again.
  3. Well, the CAW can say what ever they want but the factory WILL close down. GM will have to cover some contract costs, but that will be it. I think it's a joke that Hargrove stated that it is "unfair".Well, it was unfair for me when I could not get hot selling vehicles to sell because the CAW wanted ridiculous benefits. Life isn't fair and the UAW-CAW should not be treated any differently than any other person in the economy. This factory is made to build vehicles that DON'T SELL WELL IN THIS NEW ERA! Why oh why should GM have an obligation to the CAW especially for all the crap that the CAW put GM and their dealers through. As a GM dealer, I for one can't wait to see the gates on that factory to close for good.
  4. Even if they wanted to sue, they wouldn't have enough cash for court fees.
  5. If the price was right, they could do well with buying the brand, patents, designs, and any special tooling they have. I'm sure there would be a way to eliminate any obligations to US factory workers if there were an initial bankruptcy. Especially if their going to move production out of the USA to restructure.
  6. .....and that highest bidder will be a Chinese firm. If that happens, I predict that the Chinese firm will move ALL production (cars, parts, etc.) to their home country and export back to the USA. This will bring Chrysler back into competition and the dealer base will be happy they kept their franchise.
  7. Apparently they are already producing MUCH better cars than they did during the Commie days. Still not anything near world class, but they are slowly improving.
  8. I like the black ties but they need to have variety to them, or at least make them look like they go with the vehicle. My SAAB 9-5 possibly has the worst black tie integration I have ever seen!
  9. I believe that GM will give a job guaranty to the workers for a few give-backs. Over the next 4 years, GM will start to slowly push their production capacity to factories outside the USA (China will be a HUGE player). Their engineering from now on will be based off of universal global platforms, where vehicles can be built at multiple factories. GM will still invest in the United States factories but invest MUCH more in the factories outside the USA. When the next contract comes along, the UAW can stand outside for months and GM will be able to shift production elsewhere. I think that GM will ask for a HUGE pro-GM contract or they will just keep building elsewhere.
  10. That's not fascism, that's capitalism. In capitalism, ANYONE has the chance to join the "rich fat cats". Work hard and you will achieve. If workers don't like the destruction of the middle class, they have every opportunity to rise above it. I don't think most people understand the vast amount of opportunities we have as American citizens unless they lived in a government like North Korea (now THAT'S fascism). Fascism won't even allow you to work your way up the social and corporate ladder.
  11. Yeah, I read a few weeks ago an interview with him (CNNcom, Newsweek, Time....I can't remember). He stated that if he were president, he would consider walking the line with striking workers. I actually was kind of mesmerized by this guy...........until he said that.
  12. I hate to see that happen, but that's their only choice in this type of environment. Like you stated, it won't happen right away, but it will happen over the next decade.
  13. The problem with that is that those workers will get unionized eventually if they become permanent, so GM will be back where they started.
  14. I would LOVE to see GM pull out a HUGE production announcement soon, even though it won't happen (at this moment), I still can dream.
  15. Oh no, there is no confusion. The UAW's idea of negotiation is if they don't get what THEY want at the exact time THEY want it, they walk out. No matter if they both still are talking it out. I wonder when GM gets a true global production base, if they can just lock out the workers at an exact time no matter what and just build vehicles elsewhere until the UAW finishes the talks with them. The UAW would be in an uproar.
  16. I have worked in the auto sales business all my life and have worked harder than the vast majority of assembly line workers. From washing cars when I was a kid to managing customer relations AND the IT department now (which includes computer programming, network integration, etc.) I have more niche skills that I worked my a** off to get than ANY factory line worker. Long hard days at work AND long hard days through college to receive my MBA have payed off well for me. I have never joined a union and never will, because my pay is based off of what I am worth and what I worked hard for. Listen, most people appreciate what unions have done for America in the 1800's and some of the 1900's because it's unions that have established all the employment laws. All unions are doing now is demanding WAY more than they deserve for their jobs and hurting our economy. This isn't the 1800's any more! That is the spot-on definition of a parasite, and I anxiously wait for the day when unions are purged from our country.
  17. Well, this is complete BS on the UAW's part. If they want to work along with GM so badly on contract talks, then why don't they continue the negotiations with GM without striking? This is the last straw for me! From now on, I will still buy GM vehicles, but only vehicles built outside the United States (since there are no non-UAW GM plants in the USA). I hate to do that, but the longer we support these parasites, the longer they will stay. I support America and GM but I DO NOT support the UAW in any way, shape, or form.
  18. Two things that struck me on the Sept. 21st news: 1. Why in the world does the UAW think that the workers deserve a cash bonus when GM is still struggling? I thought bonuses rewarded prosperity? 2. Why should GM have to pour more money into the health fund after their initial deposit if the fund runs dry? The fund is being run by the UAW, so it should be their responsibility to keep it afloat. These points make me scratch my head a little.......
  19. The UAW has been taking their situation for granted for years. They are living inside a bubble that is NOTHING like the outside world.
  20. Yeah, we have had several BMW and Infiniti trade-ins and I must say that after experiencing both, I would take even a late 80's BMW over ANY Infiniti.
  21. Well, these workers need to be thankful for even getting a retirement plan and indirectly funded health care. That's more than the majority of the nation gets. I also think that if the UAW is concerned about the downtrodden workers, then the UAW should be held accountable for their workers health care. GM will put enough good money in the coffer, but it's up to the UAW to use it wisely and keep it funded through wise investments and union dues. I don't like this "fall back funding" that the UAW has been talking about if the health care plan is in a deficit after GM gives the UAW the money. It just makes me angry when I see the union workers taking their top-rate jobs and benefits for granted.
  22. This is cool, but I think that it would be better if some car maker bought the rights to the name and re-designed this car to incorporate todays engineering (the original quality was AWFUL). Keep all the iconic parts though (gull wing doors, stainless steel, tiny windows, etc.). That would sell like crazy!
  23. Well, I was hoping for a longer electric range, but that will get many people to work and back. That will be a BIG gas saver for many people. I'm looking forward to the plug-ins.
